Law & Order: Survivor (1996)
The accused shines a harsh light on the prosecution
I enjoy this episode very much largely because of the incomparably real performance of Karen Allen She is so true to the character that I actually (for the first time in the series) dislike McCoy and Ross who don't realize their own errors until the end- in the meantime use "Gestapo" like tactics- taking advantage of her emotional state due to her upbringing and her claustrophobia to gain access to her apartment!
In her last scene Miss Allen is so real I am gasping for air and wanting her to call not just the coin collector but McCoy and Ross b-----ds! And given the extenuating circumstances and seeing the way they plea down other more offensive defendants- her sentence should have been plead down with recommendation for outpatient treatment for her neuroses!
Vertigo (1958)
Good -but one of his BEST - on the edge about that!
Don't get me wrong. Alfred Hitchcock like Rod Serling were definitely ahead of their time in many ways.
One reason I don't like Vertigo is strictly personal - I understand Hitchcock's obsession with Grace Kelly and when she was no longer available he picked each actress and dressed them as he had Miss Kelly(much like the character Scottie does to Judy) but why Kim Novak who is as stiff and cold as her bleached white hair?
But my main reason is because Hitchcock the master of suspense takes it away TOO SOON!
There's NO REASON for him to reveal the truth about Judy right after they met. That could have been kept a secret until they return to the church -she could confess to him and he could say he'd figured it out and that was why he brought her there!
Whenever they get to that part of the movie I turn it off because it's over as far as I'm concerned.
I don't know why people rank it so highly compared to Dial M for Murder or Psycho or Rear Window metal?
The Wild Wild West: The Night of the Arrow (1967)
Example of 'speaking with forked tongue'
This is one of several examples of how on the one hand this series distinguished itself by the portrayal of the first Americans in an honest light often being the fatal victims of bigotry. On the other hand it continues the prejudicial treatment by having "immigrants" in their roles ie Oconee!
