Pledge (2018)
Surprisingly good
I was not expecting anything at all, but I was pleasantly surprised. This movie had everything, decent story, good twists, a little gore and an unexpected ending. Alas, it starts a bit slow.
Distorted (2018)
No idea what was going on
I watched the movie because I saw all the negative reviews and I wanted to know what the fuss was all about. Actually it didnt start that bad and I thought why was everybody giving this such a bad rating. After half an hour the movie turned into a messy mix of.. I actually don't know what. It was a mess and the story went down the drain. Nothing made sense and I still don't understand what was going on. Just weird. The flashing scenes were really annoying and you definitely have to look away in order to not get a stroke. The whole movie - apart from the first 30 minutes - was just a weird compilation of boredom, weirdness, bad CGIs and a cringy John Cusack.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
Just...WEIRD
The story sounded very intriguing, so we gave it a shot. After 2 hrs we were left puzzled. We just had a massive burrito of weirdness. We kept on waiting for some sort of twist, but it just remained weird. I do like movies that are different but this was just disturbing without any kind of message or even sense, as if the writer just sat down and thought "yeah, let's do some reeeeaaaaly craaaazy stuff". It was interesting in between but went back to being overwhelmingly stupid. The dialogues and the way if speaking was just not my cup of tea. The roboterish, cold behaviour and corresponding way of speaking was really difficult to bear. However, I have to say that Collin Farell has done a brilliant job and I liked his acting the most.
Behind Her Eyes (2021)
That twist
This show started very interesting and really got me hooked because I initially did not know what's actually going on. Then it started to slow down and I didn't enjoy it that much anymore. Just when I was about to curse myself again for wastjng my time there was this last episode and it just hit me like a truck. I seriously didn't expect this and the end definitely put up for everything that went wrong before. I am still thinking about how well elaborate that twist was. The music is also amazing. The cast was ok. I didnt like the doctor at all but the actress who played the wife was amazing, also that boy (sorry, I never remember any names :D). So overall I'd definitely recommend watching it.
Jean-Claude Van Johnson (2016)
I didn't expect this to be so funny
Out of boredom I searched for the latest JCVD Movie and stumbled over this series. I had NO expectations at all. Just for fun I gave this a shot and oh my god, I was laughing so much. JCVD plays himself and the script is so refreshingly self-mocking and also making fun of the industry and action movies that you cannot do anything but laugh out loud. You cannot take the story itself too seriously but I don't think that's what the series is aiming at. So I definitely recommend watching this... above all if you have ever wondered why people usually get attacked one by one in movies.
And to be honest, JCVD is still looking pretty good considering his age in this series.
Upgrade (2018)
Surprisingly good with an intelligent twist
I was searching for another timepass and stumbled over this movie. I didn't expect anything and so I was pleasently surprised that it was pretty thrilling. The story is intriguing and the acting was pretty good. I definitely recommend giving this a shot.
Bad Banks (2018)
Second season is horrible
I really enjoyed season 1. It was pretty interesting and very thrilling. 2nd season is just...well...meh. Super boring, super weird and just "off". The topic is - at least for me - quite boring and the characters are soooo annoying. I can't quite put my finger on what exactly put me off but I just didn't enjoy watching it. So if you make the same mistake like me as in having high hopes on season 2 you'll surely need to scale down your expectations.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Mixed feelings
I did like the story, I did like the settings, I did like the acting and the chess theme. But as the story progressed I started to feel slightly annoyed by the main character, additionally the story got boring as it was always the same, nothing really compelling happened. I did watch till the end, but I didn't find this series overly exceptional as other reviewers did. However, I really liked the depiction of that era and how difficult it was for women at that time.
Tenet (2020)
I opted out long before the movie ended
I had high hopes , but they were soon disappointed. Luckily I watched the movie in german thus I cannot comment on the overwhelming sound effects. I was able to follow all conversations. Yet I still didnt manage to understand what was going on. I have no idea what it was all about. Seriously, I never experienced something like this before. While watching the movie I kept on wondering what is going on. It was sooo hard to keep up. It was all just chaos, bullets, time lapses back and forth and so on ad nauseam. It was exhausting to follow and I eventually gave up. As the movie progressed I was just hoping for this to end as I got more and more annoyed by the mere chaos. Maybe I am just too dumb for this but I did not enjoy this movie and wouldn't recommend wasting your time with this. I really loved inception and if you expect something like this you'll be utterly disappointed.
Kadaver (2020)
Ok to watch
It's a nice timepass, but dont' expect too much. Everything is pretty much predictable. There are a few nice twists and I don't regret watching it, but I expected more. The characters are not very likable and at times even annoying. But I did like the post-apocalyptic scenery and the settings. Overall the plot and the idea behind it was not that bad. Just too predictable.
Ratched (2020)
Not thrilling at all
I thought that Ratched would be thrilling, with a lot of interesting twists, just like AHS. The cast appeared fabulous too. I am into episode 3 now and I am bored to death. There are just uninteresting events strung together and I am still trying to figure out what all of this is supposed to tell me. Nothing interesting happening so far and I can't see where this is going. It's difficult to stick to the story and I don't think I'll continue watching. The whole thing is just a massive clump of stylish looks and lovely settings and everything appears just ... chaotic and lost. It feels as if the director started with episode 1 without having any further plan thinking "yeah, let's see in which directon this is evovling"...seems like he got lost on the way. I also have difficulties connecting to the characters, maybe that's another reason. Everyone appears somewhat shallow and uninteresting.
Betonrausch (2020)
Beyond stupid
This is by far one of the worst movies I have watched lately. I expected something like "Bad Banks", since the topic of fraudulent real estate transactions can be interesting and thrilling. But the director and the script didn't manage to live up to the expectations. The script is super bad and shallow, the actors are mediocre and the way the topic was approached is so full of nonsense that I was barely able to watch till the end. From time to time there was even a feeling of embarrasement creeping in. As another review already stated, none of this would have ever worked out the way it was protrayed. I do not believe this is based on a true story, it's too easy, too dumb. Corrupt court employees, corrupt bankers? Bribery? In germany? Seriously, I still feel embarrased by the thought of this infantile plot. The 'story' is just a combination of weird events (e.g. the lovely main chracters decide on a company take-over in next to no time in a brief meeting and force the attendants - employees of the just 'acquired' company - to sing "Oh du Fröhliche" just seconds later or else they'd get fired - yeah it's that bad!) ... and can't believe I watched it till the end.
I'll give this 2 stars as the main character was pretty cute and his suits were easy on the eyes.
