Time of the Gypsies
7 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great film, it is obvious that this film was made from an artists perspective on life. However the first part of the film was very dull for me, it seemed almost to be slightly comedic, but was awkwardly mixed with a very serious underlying tone. The main reason that I found this film memorable was because of the ending result of the movie, it was almost a warning of sorts, 'what goes around comes around' and it shows us that our children are so heavily influenced by their parents that you should be as you would wish your child to be. Another thing that bothered me about this film was the acting was all over the place, there were certain characters that played their roles effortlessly, but I remember while watching the movie that I was very distracted by the acting skills of some of the characters, it was very inconsistent in that regard. This movie is worth a few hours of your day, if anything you'll have the opportunity to try and open your eyes to a slightly different world than yours, but still have the ability to apply its message to your everyday life.

Come and See
7 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This was the ugliest most beautiful war movie I have ever seen. Being a fan of the war movies, I have seen most blockbuster films that have tried to capture the essence of war either through group dynamics "saving private Ryan", through one persons perspective "Empire of the Sun" or even through an artists eye "the thin red line", but this movie "come and see" had the ability to draw me in, i felt so connected to the main character that it was hard to watch him suffer so much, I felt so drawn to him and then became very involved in the movie. Although the movie is gruesome and has a very real war-like feel to it, I believe that this is what makes it so beautiful, telling the story without trying to hold back from emotions. I think a great movie is one that can manipulate your emotions to the will of the director/writer, that just goes to show how much thought went into this film. Although there is a soviet propaganda under feel, this is a very real and beautiful film.

The Other Conquest
7 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched the other conquest twice now and I feel that it was a much easier film to grasp the second time watching it. The first time I watched the movie I was expecting it to be very 'hollywood-like', very cheesy and entertaining. I was blown away by how deep the story was in history and how the film can emotionally tie you to the character Topiltzin, though there are no direct ways to relate to the character it is very apparent that people still have the same struggles Topiltzin fought against. Although this movie was not made with all of the excitement of a blockbuster film, The Other Conquest is a movie that truly makes you think about the way we live our lives, our choices and the morals and values we choose to live our lives with.
