Living for the Dead (2023)
The haters clearly didn't watch
This show is warm, funny, sentimental, raw, fun, and spooky! Too bad people can't see past their own bigotry- your world would be so much better if you didn't choose hatred. Oh well.
The premise is nice- 5 queer people who work in the paranormal field travel the country and get to the bottom of the ghost mysteries.. but it doesn't end there. The healing of the ghost trauma or the realization by the people experiencing the hauntings to heal themselves is stunning. I've never seen anything quite like this and I can't wait for season two!
I laughed, I cried, I'm watching it all again! Thank you for this super fun show and for introducing these people to a greater audience- I'm a fan for life... and my afterlife???
The Wonder Years: Love, Dean (2022)
Maybe over enthusiastic buuuuut
I LOVED this episode! It had everything- challenging gender norms, preteen angst, questioned loyalties, and love love.
It's perfection, and the best season finale they could have possibly done, imHo. For the record I am not affiliated. I have a long love life with the orig and this series is so UNBELIEVABLY good, I've been in tears and laughter and "aw"'s ever week.
But this one stands above the rest. The coy-ness and wonderful awkwardness of Keisa, the confusion and ease from Dean, the strength and love from mama, and the emotional growth of Gus from Psych (aka the tap dancing fireball aka the GREAT dule), it's acted SO well.
Best episode of the season.
Riverdale: Chapter Fifty-One: Big Fun (2019)
Here's the thing
Disclaimer- I love musicals.
That being said, I don't love the other musical episodes of riverdale. HOWEVER. Upon listening to the Heathers soundtrack, at around the 4th watch of this episode (don't judge my coping with the world ending) I absolutely LOVE this episode. The way they took the often odd Heathers soundtrack and related it so well to the Riverdale storyline has put this episode in my top favorite episodes ever.
Problems- "come in costume!" Um, let's not. Costumes are sacred, you heathens. And letting it all go does not equal a hand jive.
Brilliance- veronica's tiniest lifeboat, and seventeen are so perfect it hurts (in a good way).
This episode doesn't get enough credit.
Riverdale: Chapter Seventy-Five: Lynchian (2020)
Sorry but
It's not another effing musical and the last shot, cinematically deserves a 10.
