Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
Aged well
I watched this when it came out and wasn't particularly impressed with the film. Now, many years later I rewatched it and can say, the creative ideas behind the film have blown me away.
A market in another dimension, Rihanna's character, are just some examples of how creative the film is. It's incredible. It has definitely made me reconsider my unimpressed stance in this film and can genuinely say my score for this film has improved since I watched it the first time.
While it is no fifth element, and it does ween a bit towards the end, it definitely deserves my 7/10. I recommend a second watch to any people who didn't appreciate this first time round.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Can't believe this was so bad by accident
The music, the dialogue, the acting in some parts the storyline the effects.
I can't believe what I watched. Compared to the originals this was such a disappointment.
The score was absolutely missing that punch, we all remember propellor head scene, there was 0 of that in this one, even the final song, where is that punchy original? A remake was put in place which lacked originality. And in some parts it felt like tones where added for cringe.
The action, shake the camera anymore add you'll have people watching the film puking. Not only where the action scenes lacking that true grit action, the way they were shot was confusing, a punch starts here and the next cut is someone firing a gun, there is no flow. They certainly didn't have me at the edge of the seat.
Acting, while the original actors did a decent job acting some scenes where just hard to watch, like there wasn't a bad actor, just a bad take. More could have been pushed out it feels. The French guy stands out here, he did a great job in the old film but here it was cringe, but I add that to the lack of quality screenplay, after the fight scene the French guy blabbers something and the filming just feels so off that it has an affect on the acting, the cuts, the music and the flow of the film, all in one.
Cuts, st the beginning the lady jumps onto a street sign and it cuts to her fingers slamming the lights bulbs along the lit street banner/sign and I ask myself, why is that being shown? Do I need to see her fingers up close while she slams the light bulbs, it felt so unnatural and made me aware of scene cuts, which is the opposite of what good scene cutting should do.
It's just feels like there could have been more done with this film, it had so much potential. The story line I just say had something within it, neo and trinity being bonded was an excellent touch. A good way to move forward. I can imagine there will be more matrix's and I hope the feedback is heard an adapted for the next films as I love this franchise, I grew up with it.
Daybreak (2019)
Rollercoaster
In this day an age being in the phone while watching TV is normal, at least for me. And it's been a while since a show has made me put down my phone so often.
This show breaks some traditional laws of Showism. Not only that, but being 35, the show brought back feelings and memories from when I was high school, and that hit different. I can't believe a show managed that, and for that I give this show credit. It brings emotions and totally out of the box attitude.
Last but not least, the ending, the last 30 seconds of episode 10. I hate it but I love it. I wanted nothing more for Sam and Josh to finally get back together after 10 hours, so I was incredibly surprised when the show went absolutely in a different direction, and it hurts, but damn it's so so so refreshing.
What's bothering me now is knowing that the show is cancelled and they will never ever get back together. Which may be a blessing in disguise for stories that are different.
Thanks people for the show!
David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet (2020)
Problems and solutions - an amazing docu
Here is a docu that's gets both sides of the argument totally correct. And by both sides I mean the problem and solution.
On the way it brings a eye opener and emotions that will make you feel the highs, lows, and hopes.
The only critique to this docu isn't even a bad one, just I wish he would have gone a little into the politics of it and why politics is playing such a large deal here, and hopefully open people's eyes into how to select the right politicians that have a interest in nature over only business.
John Was Trying to Contact Aliens (2020)
Heart warming in 16 min
This short doc provides a warped twist that only explains itself in the last 5 min, but you need the other 11min to lead you there. It's really quite a nice watch and I'm my opinion very well made. Extra credit goes to the music. It really carried the story along to its highest point. Well done
