The Wizard of Oz (1939)
A fun and classic musical.
This film is on that I watched all throughout my childhood and it is always good. The transition from sepia to color was always a sight. The songs are classic, and the wicked witch is always creepy. Judy Garland's voice really shines in this film even if her acting is sub par which is understandable. Overall a classic time and time again.
Citizen Kane (1941)
A massively overrated film.
I do not know why this film is considered the best of all time. I do like the new techniques that were implemented when making the film but overall Welles story and subsequent Rosebud reveal didn't anything for me and I feel it was a pretty bad film. I get WHY cine-buffs enjoy this picture but I disagree.
Sunset Blvd. (1950)
A very eerie film
When I first viewed this film I did not know what to expect. It turned out to be a very ominous and dreary film. The acting isn't the best but the story makes up for that. I had seen many quotes from this film but didn't actually know it was from THIS film which was shocking but great. Overall it's decent.
Notorious (1946)
Claudia Raines really shines
I didn't know what I was getting into when I watched this film but i'm glad I didn't because it was a shockingly great film. The leads are great in their respective roles and Claudia Raines is damn near perfect as a villain. Go watch this film. You will not regret it, it is suspenseful and dramatic.
The Exorcist (1973)
A almost classic horror film for me
When it comes to horror films I liked to be scared, this just didn't do it for me. Linda Blair as the classic horror icon Regan did not phase me at all which is sad because this is regarded as one of the scariest films of all time but this was when nothing else had done possession in that form before so I understand.
Midnight Cowboy (1969)
A depressing classic
The great thing about this film is that it was originally X Rated which is fascinating because everything in it is like and R rated film but obviously that wasn't a thing at the time. Anyway Jon Voight as Joe Buck is such a sad character as well as Dustin Hoffman as Ratso Rizzo. You get to see a man try and follow his heart and meet a man in the EXACT same situation only to see a slow and sad downfall.
Young Mr. Lincoln (1939)
Not worth my time honestly
I am not a huge fan of this kind of setting in a film so I didn't expect to enjoy this movie. The only parts of this film that I found entertaining where the courtroom scenes but I was hoping to enjoy the whole movie. That being said the character of Lincoln is played really well and I believed that that could be Abraham Lincoln's during that time so that was a positive thing to come out of it. The camera work results are really good for the genre in the time it came out in but all in all I would not watch this movie again unless I absolutely had to
Fantasia (1940)
An amazing animation spectacle
Walt Disney films are always great but when I went into Fantasia I knew it would be more artsy and metaphoric then let's say Snow White or The Lion King. But this movie is much more than that, it is a spectacle and a site, the animation is gorgeous and even creepy at certain times. I had originally only seen Fantasia 2000 but after seeing the near Masterpiece that this animation is" that movie is honestly garbage and this has much more meaning and the animation is much more Gothic and artsy. It is great
Bringing Up Baby (1938)
A great addition to the screwball genre
When I went to watch this film, The only thing I knew about it was that it was part of the screwball genre and that it starred Cary Grant. Little did I know how funny it would be. Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn are great Duo. When starting this movie I found Katharine Hepburn's character to be very infuriating. So infuriating that I was prepared to not watch the movie and switch to another but as I watched the movie and saw how their relationship grew with the hi-jinks they got into I learn to love her character which in turn made me love the movie
Good Time (2017)
One of the best films of 2017
It was a hot morning in a NYC apartment and I suddenly got the interest to see a movie that day before taking the Amtrak train back home. The film I saw was Good Time, starring Robert Pattinson. It was a sad but an edge of your seat wild ride. From start to finish you are wondering what the hell is going to happen and how will the problem be resolved. It has a fantastic score and every actor in the film plays their role perfectly. If you ware in the mood for a good edge of your seat flick definitely check this picture out.
Baby Face (1933)
A fantastic film with a powerful lead.
When I first sat down to watch this movie I didn't know what to expect. But when I got was more than I bargained for in a positive way. Knowing that this movie was pre-code Era I did expect him to be a little more inappropriate than was accustomed for that time period. Seeing what Barbara Stanwyck had to go through to reach the top was definitely kind of a let down but in the end she still ended up strong especially as a female at the time when many weren't depicted as much. I definitely enjoyed it though.
Girl Shy (1924)
Almost on par with The Circus
I haven't been in the silent films for long but after I fell in love with Charlie Chaplin I knew I had to expand my Horizon pass just the Tramp. That is when I saw Harold Lloyd in girl shy. What's great about his character is that he represents a lot of men and his character traits are still very much seen even in 2017. Throughout the scenes I felt very similar to him and almost felt bad at the same time because I knew how he felt. When watching this film I couldn't help but make comparisons to my first silent film the circus. But even with this in my mind I still thought it was a good piece of silent film history but not completely the best in my opinion.
Dracula (1931)
A true horror classic while cheesy, still has impact
When you look back at this classic film it may look very goofy to some, and it certainly is. But that doesn't stop the impact that this movie had on me and many others. Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula, he's what I consider to be THE Dracula. While many people have done a good job playing this role I believe that Bela Lugosi had the most influence. Whenever someone does an impression of Dracula it is always the over-the-top Lugosi Transylvania voice which is great. It shows that this great movie has a lasting impact and a great influence on the genre as a whole. Over all this movie is very good, the sets are creepy, the story is memorable, and Bela Lugosi leaves a lasting impression even if he's not that creepy and more goofy.
It (2017)
A fantastic horror spectacle
IT (2017) was an awesome horror spectacle. While I never felt scared, it was intense very intense and Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise was near perfect. The kids were also a great group of actors and Finn Wolfhard was really hilarious. GOOD horror films are practically non existent these days and this broke that trend. It is my favorite film of 2017 overtaking Good Time. 9/10
