The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
If I hear the words « Lucy Gray » one more time...
Once you notice how they feel the need to say « Lucy Gray » all the time, you won't be able to unhear it, it's painful. Lucy Gray this, Lucy Gray that...
Viola Davis is excellent, atmosphere and setting are ok, but all in all it feels like you're watching 3 different movies in one, scenario is - again - the main issue. Main actor lacks charisma and just isn't good enough to be a lead. The singing is really annoying, I don't care if it's like that in the book, they could have integrated it in a much better way. The guitar thing at the tribute presentation... is it X-Factor? And I really wanted to like this movie...
The Guilty (2021)
Man, this is bad
Don't know what irritated me the most: annoying crying Emily, annoying crying Henry, annoying crying Abby, annoying yelling Jake Gyllenhal. Dialogues are bad, the tensions they try to create are just laughable. The movie ends and you're like: what, that's it? Just very bad, not worth a watch, even if you're hungover or have time to kill...
Dune (2021)
Thank you Denis for offering us another great cinematographic experience
I've always been a fan of Denis Villeneuve since I watched Incendies. He reminds me of Nolan's ability to combine the beauty and intelligence of independent cinema, with the intensity and thrill of blockbusters.
Dune is no exception : I was completely transported, I wasn't on planet Earth, I was on Arrakis. Visually, it's totally out of this world - no pun intended - it's pure perfection.
The charisma of its main actors (mostly Timothée, Zendaya, Oscar, and Jason) bursts the screen. I don't understand some people say « nothing happens » it's packed with action, and I literally didn't feel it was 2hours and a half long. It's a sci-fi masterpiece, Denis has done it again, can't wait to see the next episodes!
The Society (2019)
A very good acting for a teenager show!
I was not expecting much of this show, let's be clear. But I have to say I was very pleased with it. You could call it a binge watching show without a shred of a doubt.
The acting is phenomenal, especially for young actors, some of them are clearly going somewhere.
The plot is really good although I'm wondering how they can keep it going for a few seasons but we'll see.
Definitely deserves a season 2!
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
How to ruin an amazing franchise...
So here's the thing, I've been an IMDB top user for years now, I'm on it practically everyday, usually agreeing with the general ratings. But I never give any rating myself, until today.
I thought it would be necessary considering the absolute garbage I've just watched.
I'm an X-men fan since the first installment in 2000. I loved the reboots too, although they were a bit weaker, but hey, still enjoyable.
But Dark Phoenix is not only a disgrace to the Xmen franchise, but a disgrace to Hollywood movies as well. What a terrible movie! I want to find something positive to say, and I have literally nothing, not one single little thing...
Acting is absolutely terrible, and I feel sorry for them because they are generally good actors, but my god it's plain, emotionless and to be honest just awkward to watch...
Scenario? Ah no wait, why discuss something that doesn't exist.
The Xmen atmosphere is completely inexistant, the musical theme is not even there for god's sake!! There's no humor whatsoever, nor anything sad, or any emotion that is triggered actually. I didn't even feel anything for Raven dying because the scene was so bad... I do feel something today however is that I feel so bad for Jessica Chastain as it's probably the worse role of her career, I'm sure she cries herself to sleep today feeling sorry for ever taking that ridiculous part, wandering around with her wig and stupid look on her face.
I don't even know who's to blame anymore: producers? Director? « « writers » »? Seriously guys, can we get Bryan Singer back already?
