Rebel Moon - Chapter One: Chalice of Blood (2023)
This movie should have been a 2 parter
I think people are being a bit harsh with rating this below 5. My biggest complaint is how rushed the story feels. They could have dedicated this movie to the formation of the team and shared more of their back stories and really develop the characters and then make the 2nd part more geared to them waging war, instead they went with 1 film that feels rushed. The effects are beautiful and I like the mash up of old meets new technology. The cast is good and storyline is pretty basic and easy to follow. It just seems like they sacrificed story for action.
The antagonist could have been better, angry white guy with a Peaky Blinders haircut hardly seemed like an interesting adversary eith.
Rebel Moon - Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness (2024)
Better than the first one.
Both movies feel like it was made by AI if it was asked write a Star Wars movie but different. I think they could do a better job of developing characters and their relationships to one another. Things are to happen fast and without explanation in regards to this, it's like all of a sudden these warriors are all best friends for no reason. Not too say this movie is a bad film, I thought the action scenes were fun and the movie has a simple plot to follow. I think this franchise is slowly finding it's rhythm.
Some things that I liked, I thought the Jimmy character was cool,.it would be nice to see more of it. And I think they finally got the relationships right towards the end of the movie. It definitely could use a little tweaking.
The Iron Claw (2023)
Amazing Acting Brought Down By Terrible Story Telling
First of all, let me say this, alll the actors did an amazing job in this movie. The real life story of the Von Erichs was very tragic and very interesting and the movie could have done a better job of telling the real life story of what happened. My biggest criticisms is how the story skips over major events and even eliminates major family members from this movie. They obviously tried to tell it from the perspective of Kevin Von. Erich however, in doing so they missed the opportunity to shine the light on. Carrie Van Eric. I also found it very bizarre that they didn't start the movie talking about the oldest Von Erich in his passing and using that to set the sage tone for the rest of the movie. The director seemed to really have long drawn-out scenes on things that didn't really matter as much and then the major life events were told very quickly or skipped over completely. If you are a fan of wrestling and we're hoping to see this movie, you will probably be disappointed, but for the casual viewer, you will probably like this. Zac Efron really does a fantastic job.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
Fun Watch
I used to watch all the old Godzilla movies. I had my expectations set lower lower just because the Godzilla movies are a little campy. To begin with. I liked Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt playing different versions of the same character and I thought the twist and turns were a lot of fun. This TV series is a nice casual watch. I think rating at 7 might be a little high, but I'm grading on the curve just because Godzilla TV shows and movies generally aren't award-winning entertainment to begin with. Some of the characters can tend to be a little annoying but I still enjoy the story............
Hereditary (2018)
It will play games with your head.
I went to the theater to see this out of boredom. By the end I was blown away. Very imaginative and the cinematography is fresh and has its own style. The movie takes an unexpected twist that really amps up the second half. Great cast.
Midsommar (2019)
Clever cinematography mixed with an interesting story.
Very rarely do I find a horror film that I find to be new and innovative. It's a slow burn type of story with extremely unsettling imagery. Florence Pugh does a great job selling her portrayal of a woman in the midst of a crisis and getting swept up in the lunacy of a pagan cult. It's a long film but worth taking a risk on.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
A suprisingly good flick!
Not what I was expecting and was pleasantly surprised in general. I thourougly enjoyed this reimagined horror movie. I have a feeling this will become a cult classic.
Thunder Force (2021)
It's hard to find a silver lining to this cloud.
Writing was awful, acting was worse. To have such a talented cast and produce this dud is almost baffling.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
It's not going to win an Oscar but a fun watch.
The fight scenes are exciting and the fatlities are nostalgic. There are some cringe worthy moments in regards to the action. Set your expectations appropriately for this one.
