A chick flick your boyfriend will actually like!
23 July 2009
So a girl is looking for love, a guy is looking for raunchy sex. Not only is this the basis of the movie, but maybe also the real ugly truth. It's a very simple concept but how do you make a movie out of this? Some people would say that the movie industry is losing it's originality when writing but if you ask me this worked very well. Not only did a laugh constantly, there were parts where I doubled over laughing. In fact I would see this 20 more times in theaters before I even rented Bruno to see it again, and yes I think this could be a movie where you watch it more then once.

Gerard Butler hasn't really proved to me what he can do with his acting skill till now, and I pray that he does more comedic roles. He was the highlight of this entire movie and for that reason, he will be offered more in comedy. Just try not to think of King Leonidas from 300 when you're watching it. Katherine Heigl was also good, maybe better then she was in Knocked Up, but still kind of same old Katherine.

Now before the movie started I told myself that I would seriously mark this movie down a few points if the ending was as totally predictable as I thought it was going to be, but after how surprised I was, I decided to go a little easier.

Conclusion: Girls, see it with a guy. Guys, pay for the tickets and you may get lucky after.

Raimi WILL NOT fail when he makes a horror movie. That is a promise.
28 May 2009
Intro: Sam Raimi is back to the horror genre with this scary and quite humorous tale of demonic proportions.

Synopsis: Christine Brown is a loan officer for a local bank, when she denies a very scary gypsy's mortgage claim, forcing her out of her house, she is cursed to be sent to hell in 3 days time. (yes even scary monsters have tax issues) Review: The difference, for me, between the Evil Dead trilogy and Drag Me To Hell is that Evil Dead made me laugh and entertained me. Where as Drag Me To Hell made me laugh and genuinely scared me. Sam Raimi makes a great composition of eerie camera shots and borderline disturbing imagery. A great jump on horror for a PG-13 rating. Another reason it was good is because it kind of brought back that classic horror movie feel, and had a lot of originality, something that is hard to find in the horror genre these days. Now somethings that kind of got to me were some of the more comedic scenes. A lot of the scary parts had humorous parts in them, and there were a couple times where it took away the scare for me, still however entertaining. As far as special effects, well I'm not sure if they had a lot of money for some of the CGI or what the deal was, it's nothing that would ruin the movie for me.

I think the real winner in this one though was the bone-chilling score, which was flawless. It is truly amazing how much a musical score can set a terrifying mood.

Also very good performances by both Alison Lohman and Justin Long

Too Vile, Too Racy, Too Brutal...Loved It.
6 August 2008
I went into this thinking I was going to see a drugged up Superbad, let's be honest a lot of Apatow Productions aren't very diverse. This really took a step away from the everyday new generation comedy and did something a little different. This movie just felt like an action all the way, if that's what they were going for then bravo. Of course it had more drug use than most movies, but hey it's Seth Rogan, what did you expect.

The actions scenes were not only original, funny, and different, they were entertainingly brutal. This movie does have a lot of gore, but it is used in the best sense. As far as James Franco, I have never been a fan. I thought he was kind of over the top in Spiderman, I haven't really liked him in any other movies, but I loved him in this, in my own opinion he should stick to comedy.

The only reason I gave this a 7 out of 10 is because as I was writing this I more and more felt like it was one of those movies that will get old if you watch it too much. Don't get me wrong, I was highly entertained, but I don't think I want to see it TOO much.

Overall though...Seth Rogan you've done it again.

Speed Racer (2008)

An Interesting Transformation from Animation to Live Action!
3 May 2008
Personally I have never been a fan of the original animated series, and I wasn't sure what to expect of this movie. After seeing the trailers I thought it looked kind of cheesy and over-done. After watching this I realized that the cheesy graphics, work to it's own advantage. This movie really caught a good look at Live action Speed Racer without losing the characteristics of the Cartoon. I didn't think even the Wachowski brothers could pull this off, but as usual, they did.

As far as the actors performances, Emile Hirsch did exceptional, but my eye was mostly on the brilliant performances by John Goodman, and new comer Paul Litt who plays Spritle, Speed's mischievous little brother. I recommend this for the family, don't wait for the DVD get to the theaters while this stunning cinematography is on the big screen!

Gondry Has Done Better, Jack Black helped it.
25 January 2008
OK so I saw this last night at Sundance, and in my own opinion the idea of the whole movie, I thought, was brilliant. After seeing the trailer I thought, "Sweet we have another Jack Black comedy, with a very promising director.", and I thought the trailer was hilarious. So ultimately I was very excited for this film.

During the movie I kept looking at my phone to see how late it was getting, and for me that's a sign of boredom. I'll be honest it did have it's moment where I got laughing, and some of it was kind of wacky, but in the end I wasn't 100 percent satisfied.

If it wasn't for Jack Black, This movie would have been a flop

Very Fun, not Academy award material, but fun.
22 December 2006
I thought this movie was very cool, not so much as a one of the movies you see that wins awards. You could tell when they made this movie they weren't trying to make a movie that changes the world or win anything, but they made this movie to give the viewer a good time. This movie was much like Jumanji, in the sense of a fun ride.

Robin Williams was also very good in this, he didn't have the usual humor he has in most of his movies but this role,i thought, brought out a different side of Williams. Ben Stiller was the usual Ben Stiller, just a rambling guy always getting himself into trouble, but i thought Owen Wilson's Role stuck out more, even though he wasn't in the highlighted cast

So definitely i would see it to have a really good time 7.5/10
