Glossary of Broken Dreams (2018)
Wunderwelt of Politics
In a wild collage of puppets, pixels, stop motion and live action stock footage, Austrian auteur Johannes Grenzfurthner gives us an insight into his mind and ideology with this cinematic revue about politics.
At its core, "Glossary Of Broken Dreams" is a rant against society in form of a list of words and concepts. A glossary of today's issues. The why's and how's. The way it's all put together is amusing. So was I entertained? Yes. Yes I was. Even though it was a little fast for the information being presented... it was still entertaining.
Check it out. I will definitely rewatch it.
William S. Burroughs in the Dreamachine (2015)
For beginners
I know I'm being overly harsh, and this documentary is likely a must-see for serious Burroughs acolytes, but the whole affair left me flat. I'm not sure that in its off-the-cuff, pretentious cut-up form, that it does anything to advance the idea of the Dreamachine. The device seems to be more of a hanger on which to hang the mainly unrelated footage. Lack of camera focus and poor audio make the living room sequences difficult to absorb, not to mention the fact that said sequences don't seem to have much more of a theme than, "we're quite fortunate to have an audience with Burroughs, let's tape it!" Those who love Burroughs will find it fascinating, but I dare say, lacking. Rent It.
Das Boot (1981)
Best (anti)war movie ever made
Wolfgang Petersen did something I felt was impossible... I actually found myself kind of rooting for the Germans in this WWII set film. Great performances from all of the cast and it is good to see that even the enemy is just doing what they also think is right. A must see. Must. Must. Must. Must. Must.
