Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000–2024)

Lost its enthusiasm
29 June 2021
I've watched--and enjoyed--every season of Curb your Enthusiasm up to now. The 2020/21 season has gone off the rails, with most of the dialogue consisting of shouting matches between Larry and assorted characters. I get the impression that everyone is tired of the show, and they're all just shouting the lines and collecting their checks.

Almost unwatchable.

If they had spent more on plot line as they did on special effects, it might have been worthwhile.

Maher's attitude about Woody Harrelson quitting marijuana
28 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Bill Maher's attitude toward Woody Harrelson's drug use crossed a line. His comparison of the photos of Woody Harrelson's marijuana use trivializes Harrelson's effort to quit. Obviously, Woody has a problem with marijuana, which explains why he quit smoking 1-1/2 years ago. Maher's comparison of Harrelson's photos when he was still smoking (laughing, smiling) and after he quit (serious, somber) were intended as a joke, but it was an incredible cheap shot, and trivialized Harrelson's effort to quit the drug. Would he have done the same with someone who's a recovering alcoholic? I doubt it. It was a bullshit skit with cherry-picked photos that obviously made Harrelson uncomfortable. It seemed Maher was trying to shame Harrelson into smoking again.

I usually agree with Bill Maher's "Politically Incorrect" attitude, but this was the most inappropriate, inconsiderate interview I've ever seen. Maher was a complete asshole.

Dumb as a mud fence
24 July 2006
Unlike a lot of people, I didn't care for "Sixth Sense," mainly because it was like a drawn-out one-liner--once you knew the punchline, the rest of the show was just an overlong setup. I went to see this one on the strength of "Signs" and "Unbreakable" but that's a mistake I'll never make again. As far as "Lady" goes, the only thing that outstrips this movie's inanity is Shyamalan's ego. Casting himself as a writer who will "one-day change the world" is the ultimate in chutzpah. Shyamalan's films have always trod the edge between clever and weird, but this one tumbles from the edge into the deep chasm of stupidity. I don't know how Paul Giamatti kept a straight face through the filming. The beginning "explanation" of the movie's premise, with its silly stick figures, should have been the tip-off; I should have walked out then and gone to see "Clerks II."
