Columbo: An Exercise in Fatality (1974)
Season 4, Episode 1
8/10
Good episode, weak ending...
27 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
All in all an entertaining Columbo episode, but the ending is seriously flawed. Columbo proves that someone else than the victim had tied his shoe laces and dressed him up in his gym clothes, and goes on to accuse Janus of being that someone else, supposedly by his own admission because he had made a signed statement earlier that the victim was in his gym clothes.

But early in the episode, when he first meets Columbo and learns of the death of the victim, he specifically says to him that Stafford, the victim, had talked to him on the night of his death from the gym, and told him that he had changed into his gym clothes and was about to work out.

So, Janus could argue in court that the victim had told him on the phone that he had changed into his gym clothes, and nobody could disprove that since nobody else heard the conversation, and the victim is dead and cannot dispute that fact.

So, even though Janus had good reasons to kill the victim, and that Columbo has figured out exactly how he did it, it's all only circumstantial evidence against him, and nothing more. Janus is right when he says that the only thing Columbo has proved is that someone else was at the gym with the victim when he was killed, but it could have been anybody.

Unbelievably bad.
16 June 2014
Completely fake situations, bad scenario, bad actors. Who on this planet believe this is actually true ? And who can find this entertaining in the least ? Answer: nobody in their right mind.

Reality TV has sunk to a new low with this. I sincerely hope it will at least contribute to its demise once and for all, because there's certainly nothing real about this, except its poor taste.

It's so bad, that I have trouble finding enough stuff to write about it so that my review meets the 10 lines requirements for publishing. I really don't understand TV stations spending high dollars buying the rights to air this crap. Not to mention how the producers actually convinced investors to finance the production ? I'd be curious to see actual TV ratings after only 2 or 3 episodes ? Probably close to nil. Although people will watch anything, however bad it is, it's true... Sob.

Columbo: Murder in Malibu (1990)
Season 9, Episode 6
Possibly the worst Columbo episode.
3 September 2011
Except for Peter Falk, who is as good as ever in his Columbo role, all the other cast members fail to play their role convincingly. It was like watching a bad soap. Maybe the director of this episode, Walter Grauman,is partly to blame for that ?

Weak plot, lots of continuity mistakes, lots of camera shadows on people, stretched-out phone ringing, car following and walking scenes that hampers the flow and reveal a thin scenario. This episode could have lasted at most an hour, instead of stretching it to an hour and a half.

Also, the attempt at moving away from the usual Columbo recipe by not showing how the murder took place is only confusing and not helping the story telling.

All in all, one of the very few very bad Columbo episodes, fortunately.

Law & Order: LA (2010–2011)

Is this supposed to be good ?
13 April 2011
I'm a big fan of the original Law & Order, and I've watched every episodes of this new Los Angeles edition so far, and can't help but feel this is has nothing to do with the quality of the original show. Bad writing, mostly unknown actors, too upbeat, too bright, too predictable.

The acting is okay at best, but we can't relate to any of the characters even after a few shows. You can tell they (NBC and Dick Wolf) are struggling, with many cast changes already! They (NBC) need to get the original, exceptional cast together back again in New York. Bring back the original Law and Order! Not this diluted, flavourless, and almost boring version. It feels like a cheap knock-off not worthy of the Law & Order title. Dick Wolf should be ashamed for producing this level of crap when compared to the extreme high quality of the original show.

Let's hope someone in charge will wake-up and realize the blunder they've made in cancelling the original, only to replace it with this...
