LandLocked (2021)
About as exciting as watching grass grow
I wanted to like this movie; I really did. But despite all the reviews I read describing it as a slow burn, nothing burns that slowly. I love nostalgia. But the film became disjointed at times and didn't always make sense to me. I know this film was a family affair for its maker. His actors were family members, and much of the video footage was of him and his two brothers and father during the boys' own childhood. So it is very sweet in that sense. But there didn't seem to be anything the movie was ever really moving toward, which is basically where it ended up. I kept watching because I kept expecting something to happen. But it never really does. It just ends. I could have saved myself a lot of time if I could have found a detailed synopsis online.
Risen (2021)
Not bad for a low budget B movie
I know I'm in the minority here. Maybe it helps that I started this movie with zero expectations. I was just trying to find a sci fi movie to watch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. I rather enjoyed this movie! Yes, the acting isn't all that great, although I've seen much worse, especially considering I don't recognize a single actor. And the sound isn't very good, at times, either. But the scenery is interesting at times. The storyline is not unique, although I did find the story plausible (for sci fi, anyway). At least the military did their usual job on not understanding what was going on. But overall it kept me entertained! And that's all I ask.
Full Moon in Blue Water (1988)
Great character actors doing what they do best!
This is a fun little film that gives Gene Hackman, Burgess Meredith and Teri Garr the chance to do what they do best! And an almost unrecognizable young actor from Chicago PD. I had to look up Elias Koreas (Al) to identify him. The setting on the southeast coast of Texas is perfect for this tale. Lots of comic relief, with some very poignant moments. The soundtrack is also very good. I very much enjoyed this movie. At this point I'm just typing words to meet the required character number. I mean, why do that? I can understand a maximum number of letters, but a minimum? Sometimes it only takes a few words to convey how good (or bad) a movie is.
The Ghosts of Monday (2022)
At least Julian Sands was in it
About the only good thing about this movie is that Julian Sands was in it. A very promising premise, there are so many great directions this story could taken. Instead, it ends up being this weird slasher movie that really has nothing to do with ghosts. And the ending is...vague, at the very least. At least I can say I saw it? Hmmm. A review must have 600 characters. So I'll just add that I like the hotel's owners, even if that is the one predictable thing I guessed from the start. I've seen a lot of ghost movies over the years. I guess that's the thing about ghost movies- when one is bad, it's really, really bad!
The Predator (2018)
Amusing if you don't take it seriously
I don't care for Predator movies, but started watching this when there was nothing else on that I wanted to watch. A silly, over-the-top sci-fi action film, with a surprisingly great cast! I found it quite entertaining. Some funny bits!
Christmas Truce (2015)
Are you kidding me?!?
I love Christmas movies! And I love historical movies set in WWII. I have no trouble forgetting all logic for a good story. But this movie is just ridiculous!! More holes than Swiss cheese in the storyline. It doesn't even have that good old feel good ending that most Christmas movies do. What a waste of two hours. I'm so disappointed.
