Perfect Stranger (2007)
So dull
I love Giovanni Ribisi, but he was not enough to save this wooden film.
The delivery of dialogue was so flat. I wasn't sure if they were attempting a noir feel but it was hideous.
The screen was filled with beautiful but cold women and leering men the majority of the movie, but it felt empty of any substance.
Shining Vale (2022)
One dimensional
Courteney Cox is playing Monica - annoying, frustrating and loud with no redeemable qualities. She's not a good person. She's resentful and angry at everyone. Her kids are teenagers and she doesn't even know how to make a sandwich for them yet. She's only written one book 17 years ago and hasn't returned, so why couldn't she parent a little?
I swear, often too much, but her swearing is excessive and just seems like lazy writing and trying too hard to be.. something. I'm not sure what. The jokes aren't funny and there are cliches galore..
This needs to get way better to make it easier to stomach Ms Cox.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Monologue Madness
I started to write this last night but my brain was already mush from watching this series. In the meantime I can see that so many others have commented the same thing - dull ass monologues told in the most monotonous tone. It's a lot like watching a disinterested and EXHAUSTED parent/partner/friend go through lines with an aspiring actor.
The actors sharing the scenes never interrupt the monologue, in fact there is barely any back and forth in conversations. Even when a woman tells her close friend she's miscarried, he has no emotion and starts talking about something else entirely for 5 uninterrupted minutes.
Also, it's very obvious from the beginning with all of the unconvincing elderly make-up that there will be a reversal of some kind.
I haven't quite finished yet, but I'm hoping it will be a good ending at least.
The Island of Dr. Moreau (1977)
Would be great..
Would be great except for the mistreatment of animals. I know that it was a different era etc but I turned it off at the end because they were absolutely cruel.
How It Ends (2018)
Mostly good
This movie was probably very realistic in the fact that you don't know what happened.
It was enjoyable and I thought well made.
The problem I have with it is the ending, as everyone else has said, but specifically the fact that it ends mid-scene.
If this was a serial killer movie you wouldn't have it end while the killer breathes down the necks of the final two people running away from it.. no one would accept that.
Doomsday (2008)
Yawn.
Nothing here you haven't seen before. Literally. Every scene and character pilfered from dozens of better movies, even down to the Danny Boyle 28 Days Later sounds.
As another reviewer said, enough with the impossible to maintain punk hair in the post-apocalyptic world.
What I want to know is.. if they've all starved to the point of forced cannibalism, why is the place seemingly overrun with cows?
