Runway 34 (2022)
Solid thriller, helmed by Ajay Devgan
This was a good engrossing watch, everything from direction, performances and action was well executed. This is one film which proves films are flopping because of a Bollywood boycott and immature social media politics, and not content. A year ago worse films than this were succeeding at the box office now, better films like this undeservedly flop? 3 of the big hit films (KGF2 & RRR mass entertianers) Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (slapstick comedy) yet people shamefully cry for content, if content was as important as made out films like Runway34 would be appreciated, audiences thinking is a shame. Great on-screen chemistry between Ajay and Amitabh, definitely worth a watch.
Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017)
Annoying mess
Hard to believe two big actors agreed to this mess, how overrated can imitiaz ali get as a director? Furthermore how can you make a well over 2 hour borefest around a lost ring, actually travel all of Europe and find it in your bag? The main characters are annoyingly self centered, and their antics aren't believable, neither would they be accepted in the most modern liberal society. This deservedly flopped at the box office.
Joker (2019)
Another overrated Hollywood biggie
Finally watched this a few days back, was intrigued to see what the fuss was about. I was a bit disappointed to be honest, it wasn't as good as the hype suggested, many simply love it though, while others hate it, there is a divided opinion and I'm in the middle of it, it's not great and certainly not bad by any means either. The mixed opinion is even more evident by the fact IMDB rating is 8.8 metacritic is 58% or thereabouts. First things first, Joker is very well made, and Phoenix' portrayal of the Joker is excellent, but although he turns in an Oscar worthy performance, the film itself is rather slow at times, his character is very one dimensional and dare I say it the act does get a bit repetitive too. It would have been nice to see the villainous dominance of the Joker a little, but it's not about his power or control, nearly the entire film is about his mind bending, largely pitiful journey to becoming the Joker, when seeing him as an ultra confident, calculated Joker would have at least upped the entertainment factor, too much of a drama for a DC character based film, but a worthy 3-3.5 stars nonetheless
Zashchitniki (2017)
User rating very harsh, there is a lot worse with a better score
Having come across the trailer 'Guardian' on the Internet, initially I was fooled into thinking it was one for the Galaxy sequel (the action scenes looked impressive), but to my surprise it was an apparent Russian blockbuster, but an even bigger surprise is the rating. Yes, the script is rushed, and the story is basic, heck some will argue it's a Russian 'Galaxy' but it's not as bad as the score suggests, it's a shame people have jumped on the bandwagon in helping the movie look worse than it is.
All major movie making countries are trying to make their own superhero films and they all have the same clichés and silly stories (including Hollywood) it just may be a little worse here. It deserves an average 5 just for some impressive action sequences though, on that front it's the best 5 million dollars you will ever see spent on an action film, it looks like a very impressive blockbuster and puts some Hollywood ones to shame in that respect, so hope people can view this as the popcorn film it's meant to be, and the unfair score improves.
Don't get me wrong there is a lot bad in terms of writing etc, but as an action movie it's watchable, maybe if only once so 3+ is an insult, 5-6 is a disappointing score for such a film but more realistic all the same, definitely better than The Asylum movies and even some of those currently they have a higher score and they have nothing going for them, at least the Guardians boasts some decent effects.
Don't go by the rating make your own choice.
The Last King (2015)
Even a 4/10 IMDb rating would be far too much
Although I'm one to appreciate the efforts that go into independent film making, limited budgets and all, there is less excuse to be had for things like acting and basic story-telling. This is one of the worst films I have seen in years, it's current rating is far too generous. The acting is beyond poor, as are the production values, the story is so unrealistic it's damn near laughable - a wannabe Italian don and a Canadian businessman bring half the Kohinoor back to it's rightful people.... who are apparently based in Canada, the lead actor has random historical visions of his childhood like he is from the Royal family yet the film is set in present day and he looks about 40, yes really.
Film is littered with biased and inaccurate historical views too in a poor attempt to help you relate to the film and the importance of the Kohinoor, but there's nothing in this film to connect with, it doesn't even make sense, there is a half decent freeze shot in an action scene hence the 1. If you want a little laugh you can check out for the woefully bad acting otherwise avoid this, so glad it finished I give it half a star for the end credits too, 1.5 out of 10.
