Twenty Twenty-Four (2016)
Visually Stunning
Twenty Twenty-Four may be the best independent film I've seen this year. The screenplay riffs ingeniously on dystopian material made famous by pioneers like Stanley Kubrick and Ridley Scott. Andrew Kinsler is remarkably relatable in his role as the scientist, especially considering that the only sidekicks he gets to play off are a talking computer and his own thoughts.
Above all, the cinematography is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Dark, moody and stylized, every scene is a parade of deliciously creative shots. Unlike most other indie films, Twenty Twenty-Four is tightly cut together and moves along well.
The dialogue feels a bit stilted at times and the slow-burn suspense may wear out some viewers, but Twenty-Twenty Four is an unusually strong indie. I recommend it.
