Paatal Lok (2020)
Riveting storytelling
You know it's a brilliant show just from the sheer number of whining victimized reviewers here. Watch it twice just for the trolls, give them something to really cry about.
Triple Frontier (2019)
Totally watchable, entertaining for the most part / I'd give 6.5
It was a decent flick, the best part for me would be the picturesque locales throughout the movie. Story is straightforward, and while I understand many people would be disappointed at the "lack of gun action" I have a different opinion. I liked watching this trained bunch, set out to do a specific set of tasks, get weighed down by their own greed (something easy to identify with) and the subsequent cascade of events that lead to their own personal tragedies. The final scenes show a brief act of redemption but quickly reaffirms their faith in greed, in a matter-of-fact way, and it was a good consistent end to the overall story arch.
Bird Box (2018)
Better than the book
Worth your time. Solid screenplay and direction, well acted. The suspense is maintained throughout and contrary to a lot of reviews here, you really don't feel the need for a complete resolution of the mystery.
The Titan (2018)
Good story, decent execution
There is no justification for the extreme 1 or 2* reviews here. If you enjoy the genre you will enjoy the film, "slowness" notwithstanding. Are there flaws in the movie? Absolutely. I enjoyed it anyway.
The First (2018)
A generous 5*
This was beyond disappointing, it's a weird mess of unnecessary (and rather hard to believe) drama loosely draped in a sci-fi setting. You're frigging astronauts going to Mars, quit whining! Where is the wonder, the curiosity, the presence of something larger outside of yourself?! Instead it's just annoying wallowing immature adults and teen anguish, as if there aren't enough shows dealing with that already. I stopped watching after the fourth episode, I don't care at this point if Mars even shows up in the show or not.
The Week Of (2018)
Good for a one time watch
Dumb and slapstick but I was laughing throughout. Go in with zero expectations and have a good time.
Dude (2018)
Pointless garbage
Actually there might just be a point, to make high schoolers look absolutely foolish, vapid and devoid of all good sense, all the while pretending to be clever know-it-alls. Come to think of it...
Beyond Skyline (2017)
90 minutes of fun
The movie succeeds at what it wants to do, give us 90 minutes of relentless action-packed alien attack slimy crazy mess. It jumps into action much faster than the first one, which is not a bad thing. The aliens and the Machines are better and their mystery is solved for us early on. Settle in with some popcorn or pizza and have fun.
The Terror (2018)
Gorgeous!
I just finished binging the first season and I am so pleasantly taken aback by how good it was! I had no idea about the book either, the plot was fresh and suspenseful and riveting. Many others have already stated how breathtaking the entire setup is and I am in emphatic agreement with them. The mood, the pace, the entire cast, music, the story with its explorations of human limits without any overbearing moral compass. I suppose I'll go read the book too sometime, but I doubt any core sentiment has been left out. A very lyrical show, poetic and lyrical. Excellent.
