Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022)
Beautiful and brave
Well I wasn't expecting that ,I was so impressed just how brave this film was to make ,the strengths and flaws in both characters made you think from a personnel angle about life and relationships in general .often humourous with both roles being very believable.my admiration for Emma Thompson has always been hi but to see her cast in such a warts and all part was amazing and the script flowed like real life .the actor who played Leo character was also very natural,I haven't seen him in anything else but I'm sure it won't be last time and lastly the incident in the hotel foyer was for me a brilliant and lovely way to round up...well done the old student waitress your expressions were priceless.a great movie play that deserves wide recognition ,simply beautiful.
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (2023)
Beautiful
Loved every moment of this ,I'm so glad you cannot reply to some of the review on here from people with no understanding of our fantastic British industry .There is great beauty and realness in amongst the complications of this tangled web . So glad I caught this and feei honoured to have witnessed it . The film tackles so many important subjects including loss but a message comes through very strongly .The acting was flawless and believable and at times emotionally engaging,I also felt it represented the UK and it's scenery in a fair way in as much it's not all quaint and a lot of people here are struggling financially. Please watch and enjoy .
Don't Look Up (2021)
Lock her up ,four more years, don't look up
A brilliant Chilling reminder of how idiotic this world has become , since idiocracy was made back in 2006 I always thought the need for more entertaining apocalyptic films like this was essential ...if not as a warning to us all . No spoilers here ...but don't turn off immediately when the titles roll at end as there is another short bit. Great film but as always with these films
it won't be viewed by the people who need to watch it and will be passed off as woke snowflake leftie rubbish and there I suppose you have the perfect circle of human life in this day and age. More of this kind of thing please.
Maid (2021)
Flawless
Once in a while my mind is blown and then I realise I probably give ten out of tens on here too easily ...so you know what I give this eleven. One of the best things I have ever watched .flawless beauty in its entirety .thank you to everyone involved .
Ridley Road (2021)
Make your own mind up
Not since the end of the World War Two has the threat of far right extremism been so evident ,this show is useful in reminding us all that it should never rear its ugly head in any society again .i applaud the cast, acting and set. Totally gripping . Lest we forget .
The Outlaws (2021)
What's not to like
Massively proud of my city which hardly gets any exposure unless you count casualty or shoestring. The accents are mostly accurate too rather than sounding like a generic farmer/pirate .There's a tired old daily mail review here with the laborious term WOKE in their review ...(so boring) .. Please ignore this feeble input and make your own mind up ,plenty of good characters and laugh out loud moments .watched both episodes so far and personally can't wait for more .stephen merchant if you read this then .....well done me ol babber.
Help (2021)
PPE inadequate like this government
Amazing ,bleak and exceptional acting which was no surprise from these great leads ...although heartbreaking this story needs to be told and remembered and be a stark reminder why you should never...EVER....vote for the Tories.
Urban Myths: Andy & The Donald (2019)
Not the greatest watch
Although the impersonations and acting was passable it all seemed a tad Contrived i have enjoyrd most of the other episodes in this series but what really annoyed me and to my horror the show was played out with music by public image .....john lydon being an ardent trump supporter would of loved this ,it made the ending pointless for me .....not impressed .
Creation Stories (2021)
Enjoyable and fun
Not my favourite era of music but seen most of the bands involved ...can probably see how this film would turn the die hard fans into a rage but as ie already indicated I'm not that fussed about the bands ,the story and probably a lot of artistic license in the storytelling made it a fun little escape fo me ,definitely worth a watch unless maybe you were a Cool Britannia kiddie.
The Rebel (1961)
Enjoyable
I don't mind admiring it's humour is a bit lost on me but it's enjoyable to watch as a time capsule ,the premise of the film seems just as relevant today when it comes to art and pretentiousness of its admirers .one for a lazy Sunday maybe .
The Father (2020)
Important benchmark
After experiencing the downfall of my father myself at close hand to this hideous condition ....I'm so glad someone has realistically portrayed if only by a fraction the hurt and horror .i applaud you for observations ,a true horror film which is sometimes the life we live . A new benchmark in film on this subject imho.
Manbiki kazoku (2018)
Amazinz
Touching and beautifully filmed showing a seeder side to Japanese urban life with an unconventional family. Trying to scrape by .The characters are all very believable enough to totally engulf me and have me smiling and making me shed a tear too. Definitely in my top ten foreign language films ...a great watch.
Starstruck (2021)
Oh just one more then .....
Refreshingly well written ,addictive characters and made me bloody late for work as I stayed up all night binge watching .
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Well done
Have a few questions about some of the scenes but generally a well done film on an important subject ,definitely one that stays with you .harrowing and gripping ..my biggest disappointment was finding out after watching was that Carey mulligan is married to one of Mumford and sons ...oh dear.
Vikings: The Last Act (2020)
What a journey
Not everyone is going to like the ending ....maybe because It wasn't predictable .The enjoyment I've got from this show over the years and seeing the characters develop has been immense ,in fact I've promised myself that I will leave it a few years and start from the beginning again .it has also given me a keen history of all things Viking ...be it culture, history and traditions...I remember the bbc attempting to make a similar series and failing badly .In the unlikely event of the writers, producers or any actors reading this review I would just like to say a massive thank you for this epic and lifelong memory .
Flying Blind (2012)
Very watchable
As a Bristolian can I just get something out the way ,to use a Bristol city fc flag as your curtains in the spiritual home of Bristol rovers fc (east I'll) is very unlikely at least and verging on ridiculous at most ...if you cherished your windows that is .....and I'm a city fan .
Really enjoyed this tense psycho/sexual thriller with great actors in a very believable situation ,there was an erotic scene that was reminiscent from nine and a half weeks but in no way did that detract from the overall sense of chemistry between the lead parts . As always there are some ridiculous comments written here about this film which was my main inspiration to write my own review....well tat and the Bristol city flag.give it a chance definitely worth a watch
Fish Tank (2009)
Accurate
Sometimes I'm just blown away by realism ,this film is one of them, when you forget these people are actors and you're taken along for a glimpse of a very accurate portal to a urban bleak existence .like someone has already said in the comments...there is something strangely uplifting about this film .ihave now watched it twice and just like Kes or Cathy come home it is one of my go to films for the real life watch......loved it .
Out of Her Mind (2020)
Original, brave and enjoyable
....I'm so glad I watched this all back to back - you get into a rhythm and pace of understanding it all unfolding, the series tackles some of life's big questions so for anyone luckily enough to have never experienced heartache or betrayal this probably wouldn't make much sense , I found it to be a very brave sometimes surreal and also surprisingly educational romp -if you've come for a few one liners then live at the Apollo it ain't .sarah pascoe is so much more than a stand up comedian as I have found with her books ,if you have degree of patience and are willing to give something very different a go then prepare for a theatrical often humorous journey of enjoyment .
After Life (2019)
Should of just left alone
Watched first one and loved it , genuinely funny and touching series that bought tears to my eyes and was looking forward to the new one. I watched all series two in one sitting and although it was entertaining it became too evident how formulaic it was ,some of the characters especially paul Kayes were just a bit over the top (so much so I ended up fast forwarding his allotted scene ) and the whole plot seemed to not say anything new . It's great to see most of the actors back especially raisin conaty ,Diane Morgan and mandeep Dillon .i don't regret watching it I fact I half enjoyed but like something Ricky gervais s character might say ...'what's the point' ...sorry only six from me with the first series being a ten
The Young Offenders (2018)
Unexpected surprise
Really wasn't sure at first but soon realised the acting and writing are superb with great characters . Subtitles were handy at first but I soon acclimatised ....as someone else said on here ...the best comedy out of ireland since father ted
Deadwood (2019)
12 years later to say goodbye
This was a very brave attempt to satisfy a massive deadwood fans like me ,to be fair it was an almost impossible task to sum up everything that had gone before but full marks for trying .when this show was taken from us 12 years ago I was devastated and I am so greatful to hbo for sticking to their guns in making this ....even if it did take forever . I found it amusing that it took a while to get my head around the lingo again but once I did I was home - brilliant - thank you
Turn Up Charlie (2019)
Not great
Big fan of idris and followed house/ dance culture since late eighties
To be honest something did not ring true about the whole elitist london esque music managment and promotional scene portrayed in this series . I know club music is massively commercial business these days and so maybe wrong about this point. Not going to have a go at the acting as I thought all parties worked with what they were given including the 11year old girl ,it felt like it was being written as it was being made with a very disjointed feel about it . To me it seemed to try to hard and lacked any realism or grittyness- So not the worst thing I've watched but maybe I need a holiday myself for a while from my beloved club music and idris .
Yardie (2018)
disappointment of reviews on here
Ok this film is not ground breaking but i feel its score is ludicrous - the main problem seems to be the patois spoken ,,,really ? why did you even watch a film called yardie ? were you expecting Philip Smith of Rising Damp eloquently English accent maybe ? one lengthy reviewer said a mysterious woman just appeared - again really ? were you actually watching ? again im not going to pretend this was an outstanding film of this genre but i personally thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the bleakness of eighties Britain was credible in most parts . maybe if you have never had any experience of any of this culture or "brown people "which seems to be a common descriptive term used on this page then maybe ...maybe thats why your review is so baffling to me .the sound track is simply exceptional .
