Westworld: Zhuangzi (2022)
That was actually a good one
Been waiting to see if the writers of Westworld could give us an episode that was truly clever and intelligent since the first/second season. This episode definitely delivered, couldn't stop watching. Every scene was engaging and revealing. Let's hope they keep it up with the final episodes.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
I think everyone is talking it the wrong way
It's obviously bad, it was clearly made with the intentions of being trashy and stupid just like the scary movie franchise. I enjoyed it because I wanted to watch something which was purely made for laughs and fun for once. Saying that I do think it parodied the tropes of the crime films and novels it's based on well enough. I had a good time watching this and got many laughs from its stupidity and ridiculousness.
Four Lives (2022)
Feels half baked
This is a story that I feel a strong connection to, with me being a gay man and also from Hull.
Very emotional true story but for some reason this series seems to be completely void of emotion and the performances from majority of the cast are mostly flat and just unconvincing I hate to say. This series highlights a very important case and years of institutional misconduct by the police that still happens to this day. The series feels very half baked in every aspect of its production. Which is a shame because I truly believe it was made with the best of intentions. It's just kind of a let down which is unfortunate because this is a story that everyone should know about and be aware of. Still I recommend people to watch this show, if only to learn about this case and the massive wrong doings of the police involved. 6.5/10.
You: Missing White Woman Syndrome (2021)
I like this show but...
I'm not an anti vaxer, I have had the covid vaccine. But that doesn't mean I enjoy political messages being thrown at me in a tv show. I just find it poor writing more than anything. I didn't hate the episode but it just feels like it's lost a lot of potential by making it about pushing views instead of telling a story effectively. The ending result of having this anti vaxer storyline becomes far more of a cringe fest than anything powerful. Anyway I like the episode and I'm sure the next episode will fix the missteps of this one.
13 Reasons Why (2017)
Probably the most horrifically bad show I have ever seen
No words can sum up this show other than trash. It pretends to have meaning and some grander purpose in the story it wants to tell. But it's nothing but empty and shallow and self absorbed. The only thing this show wanted to do was to create shock value. Can anyone really sit there and tell me one thing that this show raises awareness of? And no it doesn't raise awareness of suicide and depression, it glorifies and romanticises it into something it really isn't. I highly recommend and hope that anyone who is really suffering with problems like that never watches this show. Also Christ, what the hell was that last season? Sums up there was no aim other than to make money with this show.
Midnight Mass: Book VII: Revelation (2021)
Fantastic Ending
Wow that really was an emotional rollercoaster of an ending. The acting was phenomenal and the story ended in a very satisfying way with no loose ends (well except maybe one). Overall the series as a whole has been a slow build and I expect many people won't stick around to even see the ending, but those who do and have been fully invested in the story from the start will not be disappointed. The ending made the whole journey worth it and wrapped it up perfectly. Also the production of this series has to be applauded, the cinematography to the visual effects where outstanding especially in the final episode where together it created a constant sense of doom and the feel of a world on the verge of the apocalypse.
Overall it has been a fantastic series and definitely one of the best I have seen this year. 10/10.
Sex Education: Episode 7 (2021)
Definitely the best episode hands down
Great episode full of pay off and moving character moments. Definitely the best episode in my opinion. Season 3 really has knocked it out the park so far.
The Circle: Identity Theft (2021)
#justiceformichelle
All I have to say is justice for Michelle. So hard to watch this and the last episode, felt so unfair towards Michelle having her have to fight against them two unpleasant ladies who are btw devoid of any form of personality or brains, they look like they've just come out of the coke fuelled era of the 80s. Just unfair and wasn't fun to watch it go down, doesn't feel like a fair game now if this is a new twist.
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: This Is Our Country (2021)
Deserved winner
Great episode. Was hard to figure out who would win but I think Kylie deserved the crown, as did everyone else. Such a close competition this season people would be angry with whoever won. Well done to the winner! Stop ya wining children.
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Pink Table Talk (2021)
Made me...uncomfortable
I dunno what was going in this episode. Does Rupaul enjoy making the queens have to suffer emotionally. It's like if a queen is happy and has a good life and doesn't have trauma then they are automatically uninteresting to him and the producers. His word "vulnerability" is quite honestly toxic at this point. A queen shouldn't have to be emotionally traumatised to have worth on this show. The challenge was bad in the fact that it was an excuse to make queens talk about bad things that have happened in their life and not really a challenge at all. I don't get how you could pick winners and losers from a challenge like that. The queen that was eliminated shouldn't have gone home but no queen should have even been in the bottom or top with that challenge. I vent but I honestly felt UNCOMFORTABLE watching that episode. Shame cus it's been a great season so far.
RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under (2021)
Hmmm
Not really sure on this one yet, so far its just been leaving a bad taste with me after watching. Something about it seems rather bitter, think it might be both the queens and also the judging. Don't really get that excited feeling to watch it like I do with the other versions of drag race.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Seriously bad
Honestly I was intrigued about this film. I haven't been a fan of most of Zack Snyders work, but I'll always have a place for his Dawn Of The Dead remake in my heart and I was hoping he would be going back to his roots with this one being another zombie movie. Boy I was wrong. This was without a doubt one of the worst movies I have seen so far this year. It was overlong, boring and so so cringey. Over half the movie is spent introducing the most boring and uninteresting characters I have seen in a film in recent years, they were so hollow and impossible to like. Also the acting was just bad - I couldn't stop rolling my eyes at everyone, the performances seriously were terrible. Honestly. Also the main issue is that it was seriously just so boring, I almost turned it off. Somehow Snyder made the zombies so bland in a film where it had all the set up to be a really fun ride. He added some strange mythology to them which made them really just uninteresting. I mean I don't think it's difficult to make zombies scary or menacing but he really made them the complete opposite in this.
Anyway to sum it up - it's bad, it's boring, it's overlong, and it's so cringey.
