Sleepy Hollow (1999)
10/10
Excellent "horror" movie.

Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci were superb in Sleepy Hollow with Depp adding a discreet, crumbling yet comical spin to Constable Ichabod Crane and Ricci giving her all as the white witch Katrina Van Tassel.

Tim Burton has once again proved that he and Johnny Depp work well together and has provided the audience with a delectable delight that is also comical in places.

Much to Johnny Depp's disappointment (yet much to the audience's delight) Tim Burton did not run with the idea of Ichabod Crane having the gnarled facial features that the novel suggests but instead finds the beauty in the character and represents it magnificently.

However, I did find the effects (especially the ) bordering on disappointing. The did not look real at all and the decapitated head of Magistrate Phillips was clearly that of a dummy and was not as realistic as I would have liked.

The gore is relatively tame and I honestly cannot see how it is an effective horror movie. I enjoyed it immensely and recommend it to anyone.

*shudder*

I enjoyed watching this movie as I pride myself on the fact that I watch almost every movie with an open mind and also that I look beyond the actors and directors and found the deep and chilling plot.

Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron work well together in this film and I felt that the plot was intricate and understandable at the same time. The director does well to combine special effects, unique angles with the cameras used and a phsycologically chilling plot that will leave every astronaut's spouse with doubts of their partner's next mission.

Johnny Depp creates a beautiful villain and is subtle with the Actions of Spencer Armacost so as to slowly release information for the audience but not to give away the whole story. Charlize Theron took the leading role with depth and flare and provides the audience with a spectacular character to empathise with and at the same time has their own doubts about.

I felt the ending was, to say the least, unusual and could have perhaps been better. However, I felt it worked because it is, after all, a Sci-fi thriller and as far as anybody knows-however stupid it may seem- it could always happen that way. No one knows...

Benny & Joon (1993)

It leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling...
30 July 2005
This movie is brilliant and I think the hard work and trouble that went into the making of this film has definitely paid off.

Benny and Joon is the story of a mentally Ill young woman, Joon(Mary Stuart Masterson), and her brother, Benny(Aiden Quinn), who under unusual circumstances meet Sam(Johnny Depp) a quirky Buster Keaton-inspired misfit who has trouble with reading and Writing. Johnny Depp is a perfect for the role of Sam and the story is one of utmost beauty and comical value.

The movie is both funny and deep and includes cameos from Oliver Platt and Julianne Moore. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this film and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a heart-warming tale that leaves you feeling warm and fuzzy inside after you watch it.

You need to see this two or three times...
30 July 2005
...not because it is a piece of cinematography at it's best but simply because you will need to see it two or three times to actually understand the basic plot of the movie (even though I enjoyed watching it immensely).

The main thing that will draw people to watch this movie will be the fact that it has Johnny Depp, Antonio Banderas, Willem Dafoe, Salma Hayek, Eva Mendes, Enrique Iglesias...and many more famous names in it. Although I must admit that some of them should have been given bigger parts or else have been left out altogether.

I did enjoy watching this movie but it doesn't make sense the first time around...there is so much going on that the audience often feels as if trying to figure everything out will cause their brains to overheat. up are still a definite factor, however, As Johnny Depp lends his style and talents to the character of corrupt C.I.A agent, Sheldon Jeffrey Sands(he even came up with the 'sheldon Jeffrey' part of the name) even though the part was originally written for Quentin Tarantino. And praise is much deserved of Enrique Iglesias who plays the opinionated but still very loyal Lorenzoand also Eva Mendes who plays Agent Ajedrez with edge and darkness.

This film is very much one for people who are fans of explosions and action but not for those who like well-written plots. I did enjoy this movie and I think Robert Rodriguez has impeccable style even if he doesn't present it well in some instances.

A Magnificent Treat!
30 July 2005
I was trembling with excitement to hear that once again Johnny Depp and Tim Burton were to combine their unique talents together once again to film the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I am,admittedly, a huge fan of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton as both a combined team and alone and was eager to be one of the first to see it when It came out in the cinema. I was one of the lucky people as I was in America when it was released in the UK but still managed to go and see it two days earlier than any of my friends back home.

Anyway, more of the movie. The attention to detail is spectacular as Depp lends his quirky personality to the character of Willy Wonka and creates a wonderfully weird true-to-the-book chocolatier for whom the audience empathises with and recoils from simultaneously.

In short I believe that this movie is possibly the best I will see this year and the genius to include Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka himself is a spectacular feat. I give two up to Tim Burton and Johnny Depp and eagerly await the release of the duo's next cinema adventure, Corpse Bride.
