Sense8: Limbic Resonance (2015)
Only because it's the Wachowskis...
Normally. I would stop at this episode or even after the first thirty minutes, but I'm going to try to persevere through additional episodes because I'm a fan of the Wachowskis. They try to put too much info connecting the main characters to a single event. Even though it jumps from character to character, it still moves too slowly without much depth of the characters. I agree with other reviewers that There isn't enough substance in the pilot to grab the viewer.
La Brea (2021)
Addictive and decent show but...
As much as I have been enjoying this show, it's shocking that it has been renewed considering the much more cerebral/fascinating show, "Debris", has been cancelled!?! There are many problems with some of the logic concerning plot/scenes in this show. With the number of educated characters in this series, they don't seem very smart!!! The pinnacle of stupidity is in the season finale... Victoria is caught in an animal clamp-trap. All that needs to be done is to step on the VISIBLE release mechanism or to push open the clamp by hand!!! Instead, they try to break the thick chain with a rock!????!
La Brea: Pilot (2021)
So far, so good... but the script has a few "stupid slasher movie" scenes
Although I enjoyed the first episode, and like the adult/modern syfi "Land of The Lost" premise of the series, it seems the writers have been influenced too much by the 80's slasher movies! The saber-tooth tiger scene at the ambulance was completely and unrealistically STUPID!!! They're right next to the rear doors of the ambulance they were JUST INSIDE, yet choose to run away from the tigers instead of talking cover in the vehicle!!!
SAS: Red Notice (2021)
Lost potential
I have to agree with cjwhitney 63973, especially about the 10 year old! Poor script and plot with decent action without over-the-top maneuvers. Poor editing, especially between some scenes.
Force of Nature (2020)
Worth watching
It's worth a watch if you appreciate 80's action flicks. I've noticed the low viewer ratings... we've been spoiled over the last 20+ years with modern special effects. Although it's somewhat similar to "Hard Rain", it's a decent story with decent action. If it came out in the 80's or 90's it probably would've been a blockbuster.
The 2nd (2020)
Even d-movie is too high for 2nd
A very poor Left Wing attempt to attack those in support of the 2nd Amendment. Lots of action with an unrealistic script plot and poor scene editing. The only thing that would have made it worse is if the antagonists were Left Wing Radicals using guns, kidnapping and murder to further their cause for gun control. Even if the Right Wing psychos were successful, there would be too much collateral damage and evidence to secure their desired results!!! Although we are used to and overlook super human action scenes, both "good" and "bad guys/gals" would need to be "The Flash" to move from one scene location to the other!!! Most notably, when the hero stops the sniper from shooting his son from atop a building across the street from his original location!!!
Bumblebee (2018)
Nostalgic 1980's adolescent teen flick tribute
Many of the viewer critics panned this movie. I emphasize CRITICS!!! Maybe I have a Pollyanna attitude when I watch some movies, especially heartwarming films, but sometimes all I want is to be ENTERTAINED!!! This movie fulfills that need for me!!! It is a properly rated PG-13, heartwarming, family movie with teen-angst characters, quite similar to those of the 1980's, a touch of comedy, and modern action!!!
It has music the "Transformers' generation" would have listened to in the family car, as well as the movie clips, props and scenes they would have watched on the family VCR with their parents. From the "Breakfast Club" scene and movie posters of the era, to the nuances of Charlie's BFG overalls, it pays tribute to both Steven Spielberg and John Hughes, BOTH were GIANTS of the 80's!!! One thing that I noticed right away, was the family car. It is very reminiscent of the Griswold family's ugly green, faux wood-paneled station wagon from "National Lampoon's Vacation", written by Hughes!!! In the final chase scene, the dad recreates Clark's reckless swerving of the huge "boat"! With a touch of irony, unlike the Griswold car's fate, their car survives catastrophic close-calls WITHOUT a scratch!!!
The Warriors Gate (2016)
"Homage" to John Hughes
Cute teen romance with a touch of comedy, a lot of action and and modern visual effects. "The Karate Kid" meets "Weird Science" meets "The Last Star Fighter". It's a sweet up-to-date teen flick reminiscent of John Hughes films from the 1980's. A meek, 21st century video-gamer teenage boy crosses paths with a Chinese Princess from ancient China. He is transported back in time; with the help of her last remaining bodyguard and the imperial wizard he must prevent her involuntary marriage to the barbarian ruler rescue her from the enemy to save the kingdom.
Salt and Pepper (1968)
Still holds up in 2020
Silly spy spoof scenario that is still funny in 2020. Ridiculously goofy fun for the whole family. Although a bit risqué for the 60's, it is very mild in content by today's standards. Even though it does have a few fighting and gunfire scenes, there is no blood in any of them. It's much like "Wild E. Coyote" violence, especially the exploding bombs!!! Sammy Davis, Jr. has some great lines and a couple with undertones that are still relevant today. Both he and Peter Lawford must pack some pretty heavy punches because almost everyone they hit, is knocked out with one punch!!! LOL!!!
Fastest Cars in the Dirty South (2019)
Blind Mellow Jelly
'Blind Mellow Jelly" is a saying my brother and his buddies have for someone that is smooth. Eric Malone fits that mold. He's a "True Southern Boy" (non-derogatory/disrespectful sense) in his smooth, calm, and slow speaking and actions. He leads his team without attitude or drama and puts his money where his mouth is. Although the show isn't a fast-pace reality series, it has some cool drag racing scenes and interesting "behind the curtain" mechanical wisdom for a novice in the sport. It's kinda like watching a bunch of knowledgeable gear head buddies making a good extra buck with their hobby!!!
Living Biblically (2018)
Bummed out
I'm disappointed that this show has been cancelled. It is quite funny and actually pretty wholesome by today's standards. There is a lot of comedic innocence in the character of Chip.
