Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
OG Fan and I like this take
I really liked this and I was obsessed with the first one. They did this movie for fans and it shows. There was always a piece inside of us who liked the sisters or who related to one or more of them even though they were trying to eat children. This film gave that something you craved after watching and loving a set characters for so long. I was very impressed but the original is still the best, but they did not try to top that film in anyway and paid homage to it. Also the 90s just had a better witchy vibe lol so again it did well for this time period and generation. This will be a staple in our house for years to come.
Resident Evil (2022)
Um it was good
I love the movies and I loved this show. Yea it's not the same as the movies or video games but a story in the same universe. Action, horror, badass monsters, badass chicks and good acting. What else are people looking for? These 1 star reviewers are trolls.
The Jack in the Box: Awakening (2022)
It's a Good Horror Movie
I am giving this a ten mainly because I found no issues. I mean it was not ground breaking but if that is what you are looking for in every horror movie then your in the wrong genre. Did I jump? Yes. Do I want an origin story? Yes. Did I want to fast forward due to annoyance? No. The other reason I give it a ten is because the reviews I saw for less than 5 were obviously not genre fans and this is a genre film that is light enough to watch at a sleepover in middle school but scary enough to ensure at least one girl at the sleepover never does a sleepover again.
Scream (2022)
Made for Fans
It was perfect. Everything I wanted and never knew I wanted. The new generation is on point and the Dawson's creek nod in the hospital was funny bc a) James van der beek and b) Wilmington.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Maude is up there with Alice from resident evil
I put this on in the background while cleaning and stopped cleaning. My heart was racing and by the end of it I was in awe. It's a creature feature yes but so much more. The soundtrack is a bonus. Bravo to the writer and director and Chloe.
Breach (2020)
No no no
This is not bad. Not ten stars but I am a fan. It was like Pandorum meets Doom. I do not watch Bruce Willis movies so I think Willis fans might be confused. Gotta say this is a sexy side of Thomas Jane I am not used to lol.
Island Zero (2018)
Slow but great concept
If you have seen Grabbers then this is slightly similar but lower budget and much more insidious background story. It is slow but I think this could be super popular if remade by Netflix or HULU and more movies added. The concept is great.
Vampirina (2017)
Great Show for All Ages
I am a 32 year old mom of a three year old and this is our new thing and I am so happy it exists. The singing the dancing and the values are perfect. I want my daughter to know that books should not be judged by their cover. Vampires, werewolves, and mummies are not real but the way we define them as different is relatable to how kids view someone who does not look like them. A monster is not what someone appears to be by their looks and while I know they call themselves monsters I do not want my daughter to be scared of something different. Also I think a life size talking mouse is much scarier for the record.
Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? (2019)
This replaced Be Cool Scooby Doo???
I will watch this because I love Scooby. But I miss be cool scooby doo. The dialogue was not normal scooby but it was refreshing
Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! (2015)
I love this take on the gang
For reference I am a 32 year old mom who watched the old scooby doos literally every night even through high school. I am talking the super old school ones. I watched what's new scooby doo but it did not compare. Fast forward, I have college marriage real life and such experiences and needed to get my kid off of Mickey because I can't watch it everyday....enter be cool scooby doo. I like the direction they took the characters. Just a hint of 1970s with a total millennial twist of questioning their actual roles while being comedic. Also the music is awesome just like the original. Go into this with an open mind and a glass of wine and you will be hooked.
Tangled: The Series (2017)
Disney at its finest!
Rapunzel is my new favorite princess and I am 31 years old. I was super tired of Frozen so I convinced my two year old daughter to try this out and omg. She loves it, I love it and now we are rewatching because my husband is intrigued by how much we both love the show!
Into the Dark: Crawlers (2020)
Story Arc, Acting, and Soundtrack
I have been thoroughly impressed with Into the Dark. Def hit or miss but all series like this are because they are catering to all types of horror fans. This one was great. I like how the story is set up with a narrator and I like the honesty of the depiction of the main characters. This is not a movie you watch not knowing the story type, it has been done before but they did it well and it is unique. I generally watch new horror movies while doing other things and I actually stopped what I was doing too much and did not get anything done. Def worth the watch.
The Veil (2016)
Impressed
I went into this film knowing nothing. I love horror movies and I really like Jessica Alba and Lily Rabe. This was better than I thought it would be and I was so impressed with the Jim Jacob character acting I went to see who it was and was beyond shocked it was Thomas Jane. This is by far his best acting to the point I never would of guessed it was him. Bravo Mr. Jane
The Detained (2017)
Sick Day Watch
This is not a straight up horror movie, it is more of a mix between Goosebumps and something MTV would do. I watched it while sick and thought it was funny. I have seen these actors in other films and know this acting was over the top because the character called for it. I would say great acting sub par script and not totally horrible. I would put this in a line up with Goosebumps Movies.
AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Delivered More than Predators 2 and Alien 3 Combined/Also Woman Power
This movie gets a lot of grief but it has an amazing heroin that stands up to Sigourney Weaver's Ripley (not the Alien 3 version). It had the best elements of both Alien and Predator without going over the top with back story.
I would love to see a sequel to this with Sanaa Lathan kicking ass once again.
Alien vs Predator Requiem disappointed as a continued story line....
But Alexa Woods has been one of my heroes since I saw the movie when I 15.
