A Trip to Infinity (2022)
Highly Disappointing
Sadly this program was boring, uninformative and very misleading.
One mathematician seems to think infinity was some sort of number she could put into a few equations and manipulate them at will. This and the super-dumb "infinite" hotel made for a very bad introduction to a program which then just got worse.
What we needed was a clear and simple definition of infinity, namely: that which is unending and therefore unmeasurable. Then there should have been a discussion about the universe - which most probably IS infinite (after all, what is the alternative?). Instead we got confusing fantasies about heading off in one direction and (eventually) coming back to where you started. You can only do that on the surface of a sphere/spheroid - the universe is not on the surface of anything, it is 3-dimensional.
We also needed less unscientific talk about wormholes and what may be at centre of a black hole. But what was slightly interesting was how in maths there are different infinities and how some are bigger than others.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Not good.
This was badly thought out, badly written and badly made.
Some of its problems are:
This sorry series now renders Leia's massage to Obi-Wan in Star Wars (Ep 4) nonsensical.
None of the charaters known to be in later films (and by the last episode there are 6 of them!!) are in any danger at all. We know they all survive so there is no suspense.
When the underwater window is smashed in the 4th episode there is a tiny amount of water which can't outrun Obi-Wan to the door! Very badly filmed.
And in the flashbacks the "young" Anakin looks about 40.
Dark Territory (2020)
LOL
Oh, is this the ghost-hunting show where they find/film a ghost? No. None of them are! Clearly this show is for the terminally hard of thinking.
P. S. All the 10/10 reviewers here work for the show.
The Larkins (2021)
Good clean fun.
Given that The Darling Buds of May (with the outstanding David Jason) was hugely popular and successful I was surprised at this remake, and a little worried it might not be as good. However, Darling Buds is 30 years old now and The Larkins is suitably different from it - it is not a direct remake.
I really liked this version. I found myself laughing and giggling all the way through - it is good, I needn't have worried.
There are lots of idiots complianing that this series is "woke" or "tokensim" - yes, we get it: you don't like black people and think they shouldn't be in a series like this. I can only pity them. The Larkins is not meant as a historical record - it is meant as a fun TV show, so mission accomplished.
Good cast, good stories, good clean fun.
The Opposition with Jordan Klepper (2017)
Very funny
I love this show. It is a shame it was cancelled. I think it is the funniest thing Jordan Klepper has done.
The satire was brilliant and biting - especially on guns (see 'Jordan Solves').
Jordan's '400% milk' joke still cracks me up just thinking about it. At it's best this show is on a par with Colbert.
Again: Very funny - thanks Jordan.
Crunch Time (2016)
Only one series??!!!
This is a very inventive, bizarre, sci-fi, comedy (horror?) series.
I found the episodes to be gripping - I had to see what happened next . . . . or, I suppose, previously, as the story is told in flashback.
The last episode is thrilling and tense, but leaves us without answers.
I highly enjoyed it. 75/100.
Retfærdighedens ryttere (2020)
Excellent
This film contains many things: death, violence, murder, revenge, family problems, current abuse, past abuse, mental health problems . . . And comedy!
With there being so many serious subjects you would think the comedy would not work, but it does - it flows naturally from some of the bizarre situations.
At the heart of this film are coincidences (chaos theory?), a family tragedy and a bunch of "misfits" who somehow come together and ultimately help the family.
A surprising, wonderful, moving film - highly recommended.
The first and last scenes focus on the girl whose "fault" this all was. That is, I think this is meant to emphasize that her ordinary, blameless, actions started off a chain of events which led to a train wreck (which WAS just an accident) and death, and these sorts of coincidences can and do happen all the time with no real explanation. Enjoy!
Horizon: How to Build a Time Machine (2018)
Awful
This is 1 hour of uninformed and misleading rubbish. To paraphrase Douglas Adams. Here's what you should do if you want to build a time machine: Forget it! Time travel is impossible.
Ronald Mallett is sadly deluded. Time and space are not connected, nor are they physical things so neither can be manipulated. We use (the 3 dimensions of) space with time (intervals) in maths formulas to work out and describe how things move. The reason why most physicists don't understand time is because time is not a physical thing. You need a philosopher to understand time. There was a one on the program but she spent her time talking about the ludicrous 'block universe' idea. And, no - Earth's dinosaurs do not still exist "somewhere".
Ignorant physicist Tamara Davis stated, " . . . time has to vary and travel at different rates for different people." She and Mallett highlight the problem. We can use knowledge, science - a force - to change the length of a physical object, but we cannot use any of those to change the concept of length. This is the same with time. What is missing here is a definition of time, so here it is: Time is an abstract concept used to describe and quantify any change - usually any movement. Time does not physically exist. Time does not move, pass or flow at different rates - time IS the rate. Time represents RATE of change. That's all it is. Physicists need to learn this.
Also, wormholes are pure fiction. And they are hypothetical NOT theoretical.
The appearance of Lee Smolin - the only person who spoke sensibly in this otherwise appallingly bad program - bumps my rating up to 2/10.
Solar Opposites (2020)
Sci-F . . . unny.
As you might expect from the co-creator of Rick and Morty (Justin Roiland) this show is just chock-full of good, funny and strange sci-fi ideas.
I could watch the aliens for ever, but what I found most interesting was The Wall. We see a few bits of this in a couple of episodes but episode 7 is all about The Wall. Many people have noted the emotional content of the start of Disney's Up - I think The Wall episode scores highly there too. Analysis have also said that some (a lot of?) sci-fi is not about science, advanced technology or aliens but it is about our humanity - you can see this too in The Wall episode. An oustanding episode in a very funny series.
I loved it - more please.
1 Interrogation (2020)
Is this a comedy?!
This film is terrible. Weak story, risable script, poor acting, and appalling Christian propagandising. The dolts who wrote this don't know how the police operate. And clearly whoever is reviewing this (all the film makers and their friends?) are overrating it.
