A River Runs Through It (1992)
Finally, I saw this movie, and it was great
For many years, I thought this movie was probably over rated and boring. One night, there seemed to be nothing on that I wanted to view, so I decided to watch this movie. Well, I was rewarded with 2 hours of good entertainment. The story was good, the actors were well suited for their parts, and the scenery was unbelievably good. Now, I watch this movie about every other week, and seem to pick up a point I missed or forgot.
As can be seen, I am not a movie review expert, I just liked this movie so much. With all the below average movies being produced these days, it is so refreshing to come across this one after about 30 years.
Whiteboyz (1999)
I am sure I don't get it
I tuned in to this movie because I had nothing to do for a while. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Some of the most ridiculous dialog in the history of movie making. It is surprising that the Black community didn't object to this alleged movie. Perhaps they thought it was too stupid to worry about, and if so, I wouldn't blame them. Also, it is possible that they thought the main character suffered from some mental illness, which I agree with completely .
I think it was supposed to be funny, and it was in places, though I never laughed, for some reason. It must have been sarcasm which kind of makes some sense, although I am still surprised some weren't insulted. Finally, I am so glad I didn't pay $12-15 to see this thing.
The Aviary (2022)
Most are right, this movie is bad.
I should have read the reviews before wasting 95 minutes. Oh well, I had nothing to do, and it was cold outside. Earlier this year, I thought I had seen the worst movie in years, but this one was even worse. Other reviewers trying to tell us we are wrong might not be correct.
Granted, most people like block busters, but this one is just busted. The budget must have been the lowest in movie history. The most expensive prop was a small trailer home.
Malin Akerman looked so bad that I didn't recognize her and forget the other one.
Someone else said they had seen commercials more interesting, and unfortunately, they were right. I am just glad that I didn't have to pay to see this movie.
Marnie (1964)
Vastly Overrated
I saw this movie 50 years ago and didn't like it. The reviews are so good that I gave it a second chance. I wasted another two hours on this bad movie. Yes, Sean Connery was good and Tippi Hedren was unusual. I just wish I could enjoy this movie like millions of others have done.
The Green Slime (1968)
Worst Special Effects Ever
I had to stop watching this below average movie. The special effects were better in 1955 than this movie had and it was made in 1969. There were at least 3 recognized actors/ actresses of note in the movie. It is hard to believe that they agreed to participate in this funny monstrosity. Perhaps they needed the money. I did chuckle when I heard someone asking for Commander Riker.
Out of Africa (1985)
An unbelievably good movie
For about 20 years, I thought this movie was not any good. It took time, but the music and scenery grabbed my attention, then it took me a few years to understand some of the dialog. (I am hard of hearing) As a result, I have now come to think of this movie as great. The actors were good, the soundtrack by John Barry was good as is always, and the scenery was something that I will never get to see. I was unaware that Africa, in the early part of the 20th century had culture as they appeared to have. Also, Meryl Streep was more beautiful than I remembered. I watch this movie every chance, although never seem to see the whole thing at one sitting.
Megalodon Rising (2021)
Worst movie I have seen in years
My congratulations to this movie. It made me forget what I had previously thought was the worst movie I had ever seen. The producers must have been asleep at the wheel to allow this alleged movie to use their money.
The Dry (2020)
Slow and Improbable plot
This movie is slow and told in an odd manner. How can a guy have a flashback of something he didn't witness? Strange co-incidences of the slot between the rocks, poor dialog, barely understandable at times. Kind of hard to figure out the older versions of younger people. Also, it seems like the "dry" has little to do with anything. I wasted 2 hours of my life which I can never get back.
Bully (2001)
Not worth the time
One of the most useless and un-entertaining movies in history.
Thelma & Louise (1991)
Vastly Overrated
The stars in this movies have given us many hours of enjoyment. I just can't believe very many people like this movie , though. The women are kind of dumb, though good looking. I realize that I am in the minority about this movie.
Zeroville (2019)
Terrible Movie
I am trying to watch this movie just to stay out of the outside heat. Probably be better off in the heat that watch this crap.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Not Worth paying to see
Some interesting scenes in the first 10 minutes. The rest of the movie is ridiculous , boring, and hard to believe, even with your imagination helping out. Gal Gadot is so beautiful , but their attempt to bring back Chris Pine after he was killed is feeble.
Iron Jawed Angels (2004)
Easy to see why this movie wasn't popular at the box office
Despite impressive female stars and a subject matter of great importance, the movie just wasn't much enjoyable. There were parts that were interesting, but this movie, if it was ever at the theatres, didn't do well. Granted, it did show some historical significance. I guess I want to be entertained if I ever spend ove $12 to go to a movie. This movie might teach a little, but doesn't entertain me.
Reds (1981)
One of the Worst movies I have ever seen
This movie was not very good, in my opinion. I usually like semi historical period movies. I see where many do like it, so obviously, I am in the minority on this opinion. Even though the movie is about 39 years old, this is the first time I have seen it, and the last time as well. The subject matter is worthy and the actors are among my favorites, the sets are impressive, but I dislike the frequent screaming at meetings, among the disjointed script. A few months later, I tried to watch this movie but still only got about an hour and a half before boredom set in again.
Get on Up (2014)
James Brown was great, the movie is not
As with many stars, they get a very inflated opinion of themselves. This guy did that and then treated everyone like the were old shoes. Was he really this much of a foul human being? I couldn't ever stand to see this movie again.
Harriet (2019)
Worst movie I have seen in years
One sorry movie. The worst movie I have seen since the one with the adolescents skyping each other, and possibly the 5 year old Godzilla movie. I know this movie has social significance, but tv documentaries are much better than this piece of crud.
Poms (2019)
Absolute waste of time
Probably the second worst movie I have seen this year.
Hidden Figures (2016)
Simply Hard to Believe
The movie made most whites look bad and all blacks look smart. That by itself, is racial, but let's think a minute about the 1950's. There weren't 20 or so Black Female Mathematicians in America during this time that could do analytic geometry, much less all in Huntsville, Al. They didn't even teach analytic geometry in Black schools back then. A real stretch was the woman picking up a book on FORTRAN and after reading it made an IBM computer work when Techs from IBM couldn't. That is so insulting it made me laugh. By the way, where are these kind of mathematical geniuses today? No where, because there are none. I think this movie took very large liberties with the story. Still, the movie was entertaining, just impossible to believe.
Concussion (2015)
Either a bad movie or poor documentary
First off, I love football, baseball, hockey, as well as other sports and enjoy the performance of good athletes which includes collisions. Also, I think that the NFL was very wrong for disallowing the possibility that concussions were prevalent and damaging far worse than they let on to be. Now, for the movie part, I didn't like the movie much. It was likely Will Smith's finest performance, but the movie seemed to me to be "a black doctor against white man's science." The movie centered around him and his wife and showed little happening outside of Pittsburg. The husband/wife thing was done poorly with no romance, just affection of some kind and a miscarriage. Details that occurred to make CTE apparent to everyone, including the NFL, were just left out. The story had holes, wasn't fun to watch, and I was slightly relieved when the 2 hours were over. That sounds contradictory to the fact I stated Smith did a very good job, but the movie shouldn't have been about a doctor in Pittsburg. It should have been about the players.
Everest (2015)
A waste of Money
It is going to be hard to make a review of this movie last 10 lines because it is that bad. OK, some of the scenery of Mount Everest was good. There were a few well known actors in the movie, but they were given parts that were uninteresting in some cases. Some of the dialog was either at low volume or spoken in another language, it was hard to tell. I realize this was a true story, not a made up story. Another couple of reviewers mentioned that one would be better off watching "Vertical Limit." Unfortunately, they are correct. I love books and movies about mountains, but not this one. Here is my final observation of what I thought about this movie. After 30-45 minutes into the show, I was hoping it would soon be over.
