Himalaya with Michael Palin (2004)
Another well-done documentary for the Palin collection
After being drawn into the wonders that are Michael Palin's travels, I could not pass the opportunity to watch his journey across the diverse Himalaya region. Palin, as well as his other travels, brings great humor and charm to this documentary. He has never been afraid of trying anything new, and Himalaya is no different, from journeying to the troubled land of Kashmir to milking female yaks in Tibet. One of the neatest parts of the documentary is when Michael chats with the Dalai Lama. This enlightening part of the program was well put-together, as well as the documentary as a whole. Bravo, Michael, you've done it again! Keep up the travels!
Around the World in 80 Days (1989)
A great watch for anyone!
After watching a couple parts of the film in a class I was taking at Ohio State, I was hooked and had to find out for myself how the whole thing played out. After watching the entire program, I had to get a copy of it on DVD. The DVD of it is also a brilliant masterpiece. Every facet of the program is perfectly put together, as is the case for the other five travel documentaries he did later. Palin, as is the case for his other travel documentaries, shows the viewers many places of the world we only read about in encyclopedias. He goes many places we would only dream of seeing. If you are a fan of Palin, geography, travel, or documentaries, this is a good show to catch. This is one documentary you will want to watch over and over again, like yours truly; I give it an A+!
A Fish Called Wanda (1988)
A great comedy for all...too bad I couldn't give it more than a 10
Being a big fan of the work of Michael Palin, I just couldn't resist picking up this movie at the video store last week. It is drop-dead hilarious! Palin, along with fellow Python John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Kline form the core of what is indeed one of the greatest comedy movies I've ever seen! Each of the main characters possesses a truly unique personality and distinctive trait, from poor K--K--K--Ken's stuttering to Otto's (Kline) brutishness to Wanda's (Curtis) ability to seduce people like Archie (Cleese). The writing and directing makes the film flow along very smoothly. Indeed, this is one movie I am going to see again and again. I highly recommend this film for anyone who loves comedy!
