Plot from a sadistic writer
30 August 2021
There's so much potential with the plot. But the sadistic nature of the plot makes it wonder if the writer(s) had a past to bring it out.

Poong-sang character is a sacrificial lamb to an extend that you feel angry about the character and the imbalance of virtues.

Overall, a great plot screwed with character definitions.

Haggis does it again!
19 March 2008
Superb flick. Straight out of the heart. Haggis spins his magic again with his script. This film will not just touch Americans but every father and son. Tommy Lee Jones was terrific. Great Casting. Its a little slow - it needed to be to get the depth of emotions.

The power of this film is that you don't hate the Sergeant who killed Tommy Lee's son - instead you feel the anger against the war itself to have created such a situation and that as a father, where Lee fails is to bring back his kid home instead of seeing him die.

More movies like these would definitely make people take notice of the damage that war can do to your own people let alone thousands of others being killed.

Awesome! Can't wait to watch Haggis' next film.

not worth the time and money!
20 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Charlie and the chocolate factory, corpse bride and now Sweeney Todd. Tim Burton, Johny deep - every time they come together, my expectation to see a good flick doesn't do any good to me. i felt the film was nothing more than a revenge story done at the backdrop of a musical and old, ravaged england.

Only saving grace was Helena and Sacha baron Cohen. they were truly good and Johny deep will not win the Oscar for my worth of any amount of money and not to include Emile Hirsch for his role of Christopher McCandless in into the wild is a joke that only the academy can perform.

Art direction was probably something worth taking a notice of - but then, for the amount of money spent - its not something that was out of the ordinary.

Overall, a tame effort and my last Burton film ever.

Natalie wood at her best!
14 February 2008
this is not a moving story. this is not awfully romantic or sentimental. but what this is, its a wonderful expression of indecision and mental stigma that you go through adolescence - not just in 60s even now I would imagine.

one of the most recognizable starts in the film history. its worth watching just for this opening sequence.

Beatty's first film. great find. scenes with his dad are wonderfully done.

Natalie wood - perfect. superb actress.

awesome end! Don't miss it.

Francis Ford Coppola will be proud!
22 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Its not easy to choose a subject rather a film that has been made in almost all languages and by everyone who calls himself a director. Still, Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has chosen it and has made the best Indian version of The Godfather.

Dialogues or the lack of it makes a wonderful statement about the style of RGV. It could have been easy for RGV to have gone an self-indulgence trip and shoot a 4 hour film. But he has kept it short, true to the characters, script and definitely has come out trumps.

Casting is wonderful in this film. K K has done a fantastic job. Amitabh has been well handled. Abhishek is getting better with each of his films. There are certain dialogues which are riveting and RGV has chosen the characters to speak them to have the effect on the audience like the Swamiji saying, 'You cannot kill the man, you should kill the philosophy' is easily the best dialogue in the film that epitomizes the script.

Camera, Music all positively adds to the film. Definitely an effort the original crew and cast would be proud.

A Must watch for film fans!

an absolute roller coaster
17 July 2005
'crash' is one of best 10 films that i have watched. there is an incredible feeling of humanity and reality of human being when you watch the characters portrayed in the film. Be it the Mexican lock smith's story to his child or Sandra's point of view on her friends or the last scene where the Chinese nationals are let go by the petty black small time thief.

casting in this film is superb. and everyone has done a splendid job. don cheadle does it again with his expressions particularly the one in the hospital where his mum blames him for his little brother;s death.

10/10 without a doubt.
