Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
Strong, sober, realistic
This movie feels very realistic. The life of this serial killer is portrait without much glamourization (no lively red spreading everywhere). Many of the killing scenes are not shown. There isn't much space for victims being tortured, screaming for help.
The lack of shenanigans makes the movie very creepy. It makes the movie quite immersive.
Also, the characters are quite broken people with very tough and sad stories. That gives the movie another note of complexity.
I definetely recomend it.
Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003)
Fun for those who loved the first one!
I believe this movie only makes sense and can be fun to those who have seen the first (and liked it). In this sequel, the main characters are not well introduced nor further developed. It is like a long bonus scene from the first movie, not really challenging Elle with anything new, anything she hasn't faced before.
Also, and that is both a weakness and a strength of this movie, Elle does not get romantically involved with anyone new, nor does she have any trouble with her actual boyfriend. Everything peaceful lovewise can be both empowering (women have more to do than stress over partners) and boring...
Nerve (2016)
Dave Franco got Emma in the game... to then save her?
Nerve has a frenetic pace It got me calling my friends (that hadn't watched it) late at night to discuss about it.
It is commercial and it has a lot of teenager romance cliché (which I find entertaining). It brings up some deep reflections about how being anonymous in the internet changes our behavior - we don't measure our acts and words, we tend to get indifferent.
Now, the thing that does not get out of my mind: how come Dave Franco states that all he wanted was to save Emma from being a prisoner of Nerve if HE was the one that got her to be so involved with the game in the first place?? If that makes sense, I might not know who I am. I like to believe this is a conscious flaw in the movie (so that careful watchers can interpret the situation as: Dave Franco is psycho and he manipulated everyone the whole 90 minutes; after the movie ends, he turns to be Emma Roberts new evil boyfriend ready for more wicked games).
