Most apt title ever
24 April 2022
I hated this movie. It was well made and well acted but I really disliked it. This movie was exactly what the title suggested. It was A LOT. For those who are into this style of movie, I hope you enjoy. For people like me that can't take 150 mins of a visual assault, I suggest you pass.

I had to pause the movie and come back to it.

That home birth scene was intense especially since I almost had a home birth 11 months ago (thank God I decided to go with a hospital). I literally had to stop the movie and breathe because for the last few seconds I was inadvertently holding my breath. Astounding performances, good film, but not a film I can watch a second time.

What did the critics see that I didn't see?
16 January 2022
The performances from Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley are very good but that's it. This movie dragged on and on. It almost felt like a short story stretched out. This movie definitely overstayed it's welcome as they didn't have enough story to go around. And the climax when you find out what actually happened to the doll was so anti climatic it made me mad. The build up/tension.. where was it? I thought Olivia Colman's character was going to speak more to Dakota Johnson's character about the trials and tribulations of being a young mom. The filmmaker thinks this movie is more important than what it really is. It could've been an interesting character study, yet, I was left empty.

This movie upsets the ancestors

There could have been a good movie in there somewhere but the message was a jumbled hot mess. The black girl who was apart of the white sorority vs. The black girl who was apart of the black sorority who are more alike than they imagined would've been a better movie. I definitely understand why members of the divine nine wouldn't sign off on the use of their greek letters.

Eh...
25 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
That's literally how I feel about this film. EH. Outside of a standout performance from Carey Mulligan there's no reason to watch this film. She meets a predatory older man, loses her virginity, gets engaged and drops out of school, realizes that's a mistake, gets back in school and gets her dream, Oxford. The end.

There were no real stakes, there was nothing she was in danger of losing except for Oxford, and she got that back. So... what was the point of the movie?

I'm sure this made a fine memoir, but this was no movie. It wasn't even a good character study. The father character could've been a good case study but he was REALLY dumb. How can any parent allow their 16 year old daughter to hang out with a thirty something year old man? And the fact that this is a true story...smh.

Yeah... skip this one.

Melissa McCarthy, Please stop employing your husband!!

He brings out your worst! You are such a gifted medic actress but as soon as you team up with your husband, it all goes away. I'm sure he is a wonderful husband but ALL of your bad comedies have his influence. Leave your relationship at home and stop bringing it to work with you.

Man teaches robot how to do crime
8 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie adheres to the formula of crime capers tightly and it explores alzheimer's with respect.

Frank is the old man from Up brought to life. His cute grumpy man personality is paced well and he has an a defined history that is shown to you in his actions, routine, and motivations long before it is said explicitly in script. His chemistry with Susan Sarandon librarian is beyond sweet. I enjoyed this film.

Despicable characters

If I wanted to watch something that show weak people who have no sense of morals or decency, I'd watch an episode of Maury.

So. Many. Questions.
5 April 2020
The writer (Shane Mack) tried to mesh Lethal Weapon with Kindergarten Cop and it didn't work AT ALL. Having the kid curse for literally no reason was off putting. The writer needs to expand his vocabulary. What's sad, is that I can tell that the kid would probably be a decent actor if given a good script. However, having him curse like a grown ass man was not cute nor funny, just obnoxious. There was no rhyme or reason to his actions or the story, if you can even call it that. This movie leaves the viewer with so many questions like; 1. How did this get past the rewrite stage? 2. Was this written by Shane Black's alternate universe dumb twin? 3. How much were Taraji and Ed Helms paid to appear in this crapfest of a film? 4. Is Netflix even trying anymore? .... and so on and so forth.

How Dare They
29 March 2020
The total disregard for Madam C.J. Walker and Annie Malone's legacy is disgusting. And the fact that this was created by and written by black women!? Shameful. First of all, this is a biopic, make it a biopic. What's with the modern music and boxing ring? I'm probably in the minority, but I hated that element. The story could be just as thoughtfully told if kept in their time period. If they wanted to be all style and no substance fine, but then at least have the styling so on point that I can't look away. They didn't even do that right. So not only did they fabricate a new Annie Malone and Lelia Walker, they couldn't even make it interesting. Octavia Spencer and Blair Underwood tried really, REALLY hard, they made a fool out of Carmen Ejogo, and Tiffany Haddish should not do serious roles unless she is made to take acting lessons. With the subject matter and the actors hired, this could have been a real award contender, instead it should be forgotten and quietly buried.

Cool and Sexy
15 February 2020
The soundtrack to this movie is the smoothest I've heard in a long time. This was a slick movie to listen to and to watch. A Love Jones redux if you will. The acting by Lakeith and Issa was solid although, I feel that Lakeith was given more to do. We get two stories that intertwine but the problem is that I didn't feel for the lead characters (the mom, and Issa Rae's character). I wanted to root and cheer for them, but we weren't given much to go on. The script was like the shell of a house. Great start, but then you forgot to add the plumbing, floors, doors, insulation, etc... There are a lot of stolen glances, soft touches, and sip and smiles but I didn't care about the relationship between Issa and Lakeith either way. I realllllly wanted to like the film more than I did, but I just felt indifferent about it. And for a movie in the romance genre, you really need to have characters you cheer for, even if they don't end up together.

Dumb Chick the movie
1 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I hate this movie. The main character Alison, is the dumbest b*tch on the planet. The movie opens with her getting cheated on, breaking up with her boyfriend and then looking for a roommate. Crazy b*tch Hedy who she accepts as her new roomie specifically asks her "is there any way you two will patch things up?" and Dumb b*tch Alison says "No". Of course this dumb, weak, b*tch patches things up with her cheating ex and they get back together and they try to force the weird new roomie out. In all honesty, I was on weird roomie's side until she killed the puppy. That was the dealbreaker but it still didn't make me want to cheer for Alison. Alison is a prime example of the dumb b*tch mentality. Can't be alone, stand on her own two feet, and doesn't know what she wants. Usually flawed characters make for compelling heroes, not in this case. In this case you wish the main character gets smacked in the face with a two by four.

I got up and went to the bathroom and started plucking out chin hairs. Because that was a better use of my time. The scriptwriter should never, EVER be allowed to write again. They shouldn't even be allowed to proofread someone else's script. They need a new profession. It is that bad. The producers who greenlit this script should retire. Clearly they're out of touch with trends because this story is 5 years too late. The actors tried hard but very little they could do with such an abysmal script.

Just Awful
21 August 2018
You know what you're getting into with title of the show, the theme song, and the fact that it was produced, created, directed, and starring MARLON. But damn, he is literally too much. Just annoying, irritating, and a Martin wannabe.

You have Marlon, a YouTube "influencer" with his ex wife Gina (oops I mean Ashley), his best friend Tommy, (whoops Stevie) and his ex-girls best friend Pam (my bad Yvette). Only difference is he has a pair of non characters (the kids).

It's like watching a stand up. It's not a show as much as it is a one man over stretched, SNL sketch. He can never say the joke and punchline and be done. He keeps going, going, and going and takes over the scene from the other actors. Why even have them there if it's a Marlon showcase? Bless his heart for getting a second season, cause the show damn sure didn't deserve it.

I gave it 9 episodes
24 April 2018
I tried, I really tried with this show but it feels like Baby's First Crime Caper or Suburban Sometime Fun. The plot turns are basic, the dialogue is pedestrian, and the actors give give it the good ole college try but this show is so bad it hurts. The concept is great, but the execution is all over the place.

First off, this entire series could and should be a movie. It is so long and drawn out you can actually feel the plot lumbering along.

The characters are a hot mess. Christina Hendrick's character wants to be the consummate mom, yet wants to be H.B.I.C.? Nancy Botwin she is not. If it were better written, that character would be compelling, instead it just irritates the life out of you. The sister, Mae Whitman is a little better but not by a lot.

Retta's character is the most fully realized with the best family dynamic but even her character needs work.

What lets this show and everyone involved in it down, is the writing. This show failed at the blueprint stage. How this show made it past the many stages before production is beyond me. The show creator is clearly a relative of somebody big.

LOL
27 December 2017
When a privileged white guy writes a race relations drama/comedy/action film (who knows what genre this clusterf**k is) what you get is an incoherent and disjointed mess.

The dialogue is so basic I actually laughed out loud when the character said "That is a magic wand". They said with complete sincerity and I laughed out loud. Will Smith is absolutely checked out. It is as if he is doing a bad impression of himself from better days gone by. The budget was 90 mil? Where on earth did the money go? Did Will ask for a 80 million dollar paycheck?

Perfect movie for laundry day or when you need to clean the house. You can roam in and out and half listen and you wouldn't miss a thing nor would you care.
