Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: All Those Who Wander (2022)
Best Star Trek episode all time
Lifelong Trekkie here, having grown up watching original series reruns after school each day, and being a huge fan of TNG watching every episode when it came out. We've enjoyed all the other series, the ups and downs, because even though series aren't perfect, Star Trek is better than everything else on TV.
Each episode of Strange New Worlds takes us to another better level, and this episode; it's best I've ever seen. At each moment I was so emotionally engaged, fearing for the character's lives. Sparks rage, Uhura's searching, Hemmer's wisdom, it all came together. When Spock gave a shout out to mindfulness, I had to stand up and cheer 🙏
By the end of the episode. I was fully convinced that the Enterprise and by extension Starfleet is a real family. Star Trek is calling humanity to level up its game, to stop these stupid wars, and to see the light. It's up to us now people, Star Trek has found the light and is leading the way.
The Switch (2010)
So awkward. It's funny
Not your typical rom-com, but if you like Jason Bateman or Jennifer Aniston, then this is an enjoyable movie. Near the end of the film it gets so awkward. It's laugh out loud. Funny. Definitely worth the price of admission.
Dead Man Walking (1995)
Powerfully emotional
This is about a serious as drama gets, a powerfully emotional film. Susan Sarandon comes across as superbly authentic in her spiritual depth as a nun counseling the prisoner Sean Penn's depiction of the prisoner, particularly at the end of the movie as he comes to grips with what he has done, is some of the most powerful acting in any movie. It's a showcase for Sean Penn's abilities. Definitely worth watching.
Harriet (2019)
'Harriet' is a thrilling tale, based on a real American hero
The story of Harriet Tubman is a hero story, of a brave and fearless woman who stood up against the powers of her time, to free her fellow slaves. Is this a perfect movie, no, but it a tremendous story that should be hallowed as part of our American heritage. Every American child should watch this film and learn how true American heroes (and villians) are part of the Black History that such a core part of who our nation has become.
Cynthia Erivo portrayal is epic, well worthy of the Oscar nomination. Watch this film, with your children, it is history that will inspire us all.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Time Warp
This movie takes you into another space and time, back to the 1960s, and and you never once realize you aren't really there. The lead character is utterly fascinating, and gorgeous to boot, it's story telling and film making at it's finest.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
This is not just the funniest Christmas movie
It's more than that, it's the funniest movie ever made. W
When Clark starts doing Kung Fu on Santa Claus out in the front yard, it was over for me, I still remember picking myself up out of the floor. This is what comedy is all about this is the pinnacle, it doesn't get any better than this, just ask the Yak-woman.
Cape Fear (1991)
Redneck Super Hero vs Cheating Husband - who will win?
Robert DeNiro's Max Cady is a clear indication that Mr. DeNiro is mentally unhinged. Only someone deeply in touch with his inner psycho could pull this off, and boy did he. The best acting in any movie, ever, his best film imho, at least my favorite.
Take Travis Bickle, Jack Lamotta, combine them with a mutant hillbilly, and you get Max Cady. He's a regular quote machine:
"For I am like God, and He like I. For I cannot above him, nor He, beneath me be! - Selasius 17th century"
"Forget about that restraining order counselor? You're well within 500 yards!"
"Grandaddy handled rattlesnakes; Granny drank strichtnine. I guess you could say I have a leg up, genetically speaking."
Be sure and watch this movie on a night where you don't need much sleep. You won't get any.
Bravo Mr. DeNiro, and Mr. Scorsese, this film is legend.
Cobra Kai (2018)
WARNING
WARNING do not start watching Cobra Kai unless you have no plans for the next few days, or else you're willing to call in sick or dump your upcoming date.
HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. The humor is non-stop, and levels of drama run way deep. The writers deserve big Emmy props, this series is pure fun. Its a blast from the past, and the present. Major props to William Zabka (Johnny) he steals the show. Get ready to sweep the leg!
