Creamerie (2021)
Fun..... until it's not
I was really having a fun time with this show from the first episode up until episode 5.... Well, I was feeling icky about how cis this show is; there is absolutely no discussion of transness, and in fact it very explicitly likes to equate womanhood with vaginas and menstruation. And then, while I had the feeling there was an underlying current of non-con creeping in, I guess I was hoping it would just continue to be kind of a vibe and not made explicitly a plot point, but I guess that was too much to hope for.
Idk I watched the whole thing because when I wasn't overwhelmed with how problematic and triggering most of this show is, it was really fun!!!
The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
OBSESSED WITH THIS
The mind of Mike Flanagan!!! Taking the Edgar Allen Poe story and turning it into this Tory of pharmaceutical greed and horror and FAMILY and UGH!!! It's truly amazing. All four of the actors who played Madeline and Usher all deserve all the awards.
I didn't want this to end ever. And every time I saw Carla Gugino onscreen i shrieked. She's so incredible and the aesthetic they chose for her is phenomenal.
I do think they kind of played themselves because the deaths were progressively less gory. Although maybe that was the point. But the first two (Perry and Camille) were the best and then every death afterwards I was like.... meh that was nothing comparatively.
But no. I wouldn't change anything. I'm so obsessed.
Absolutely love that they made Augustine Dupin gay too lol.
Platonic (2023)
Fun but not good
This show is really fun and I think if you want something enjoyable to watch then you should watch this!!! Tldr I would recommend but I also don't think it's a good show!!
Caveats: every character is annoying. The writing is weak. Sylvia is super annoying by being such a lightweight and that feels like they're making a statement about women, and Will is annoying for being a manchild which not to defend men but also is annoying for its homogenizing men. Also I think in 2023 idk maybe it's realistic but it still is kind of a weird to have a whole show based on the concept that men and women can't be friends. Personally I don't think that's real but I'm also not a 49 year old divorce.
Anyway my overall thought is: the writing isn't great but the acting is good and the concept is fun!
Love, Victor: Close Your Eyes (2021)
They really got me there
I was so angry when they made Felix choose Pilar over Lake (I still am tbqh) and I've been saying all season that Lucy is totally a lesbian so yes I absolutely love that Lucy and Lake are flirting but LAKE AND FELIX UGH why am I choosing the straight couple over the lesbians? This so what this show has reduced me to.
Superstore: All Sales Final (2021)
THIS IS HOW YOU DO A SERIES FINALE
The perfect way to end the show. I was shocked by how emotional I got <3.
