Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (2022)
Beautifully boring
Instead of the wonderful aesthetic, they should have spent cash on developing a good story. The set and costume design was really great. But what is the point if the acting is weird.
It was extremely predictable. Really don't see the point of the grand cabinet intro either. This show is almost childish. Honestly it is not worth the hype. Netflix has failed on this one. The intro sequence and the poster is far more intresting and makes you want to watch the show but then the actual show falls flat. I postponed watching it because I though it would be too scary but then I actually watched it. Maybe kids will like it for Halloween.
Aashiqana (2022)
Found myself gritting my teeth with irritation.
Its not just overacting by the female lead - it's crappy overacting. Cartoonish, unnecessary over the top editing, silly dialogue, story that makes no sense. Villian can just magically appear and disappear, no rules apply to him. Despite multiple incidences of Chikki disrupting police operations, her actions helping criminals escape, trespassing a crime scene, damaging police property more than once, causing bodily harm to the male lead on several occasions, eavesdropping and participating in an investigation as a civilian, she never gets a formal warning or fine or prison time - is this how it works in India? She should be banned from the police academy and have a record already. She's all bark and no bite. One of the worst portrayals of a 'strong' woman. Them falling in love is just an unrealistic stretch.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)
I actually enjoyed it
I'm surprised because usually non-epic historical Bollywood movies has at least some cringe. This was an unnecessarily long film with filler songs they could've done without. Not at all funny so idk why it's a comedy. Barely a thriller. However, I watched till the end on 1.25 speed just so that I didn't fall asleep. I think the cast helped a slow movie seem interesting and I really appreciate the lack of Salman Khan type cringey acting and dialogue.
Dark Cloud (2022)
Predictable but I stayed till the end.
Don't watch it if you're looking for something fresh. Also, the poster fooled me into thinking this was gonna be really exciting. Actor was great but I would've liked more screen time for the other characters.
Imlie (2020)
Imlie ugly cries in every episode. Surely the actress is tired of this stupid story
Maybe because she's a villager so she must act like a cringey animal and cry all the time. My gosh. It's the least believable love story. What were the writers thinking? So brainless.
Somewhere Between (2017)
lame acting from the mother and kid.
It started out extremely fake from the first dialogues, but its the kid that just did it for me. I cannot stand annoying, bratty kids and don't wanna watch them when TV is supposed to be entertaining, not annoying. I lasted 23 painful minutes and just called it quits. They could have done better. Stuff like this shouldn't be released when they know its clearly bad from the start.
Dave Chappelle: The Closer (2021)
The first time I've watched an entire special
I cried a bit at the end. Loved it. It felt sad and understandably so. Great to see these important issues brought up without a care in the world for the easily offended. This shows there are still American celebs with some sense.
Mayor Grom. Chumnoy Doktor (2021)
Better than expected.
Overall enjoyable movie. No need for unnecessary sex or nudity - something Western movies can't do without. I could watch this without my older mom getting upset. Thank you!
Bãhubali: The Beginning (2015)
Highly overrated.
I quit watching at 48 min. It's all over the place. No real dialogue going on, wayyyyyy too dramatic with the slow mo and effects. Seems like I'm watching an Indian serial. I cannot believe all these positive reviews. Surely people felt some cringe watching this outdated acting. I just couldn't get into it. The songs are so amazing but I felt like the overall background score was just lacking. I feel like it needed an outsider's eyes just to male it more appealing internationally.
The Healing Powers of Dude (2020)
Tries hard to be funny.
Based on the first 2 episodes, it is not what I expected. As someone who suffers from social anxiety, it's interesting to see a different way someone could be experiencing it. It feels like it would have worked 15 years ago. Acting falls flat, but it seems like a good family show. I knew immediately after the main character spoke it was created by a woman (not a bad thing). Didn't really find anything funny in the first 2 episodes.
Four Corners (2013)
This makes me want to read the book.
The movie was good. Theodore Jantjies may have been overacting a bit,,
