I think the Super Mario Bros movie should have followed The Lego Movie format by having some of that real life human involvement in the
action of the characters. I felt disconnected to the story. I would have preferred that it followed the Super Mario Brothers 64' game play. I think it would have been cooler if it followed some of the Jumanji play book with some kids finding an old Nintendo 64 and playing the game. I also like idea of having aspects of The Wreck it Ralph type character relationships and actions too. There was so much potential with this movie, and I think it was wasted on a poorly written script.
The best part was Bowser singing his love for Peaches and the Underground theme song while he played piano and was scheming.
This movie needed more realistic human connection, better writing, and more nostalgia.
