The Lego Movie was much better
16 August 2023
I think the Super Mario Bros movie should have followed The Lego Movie format by having some of that real life human involvement in the action of the characters. I felt disconnected to the story. I would have preferred that it followed the Super Mario Brothers 64' game play. I think it would have been cooler if it followed some of the Jumanji play book with some kids finding an old Nintendo 64 and playing the game. I also like idea of having aspects of The Wreck it Ralph type character relationships and actions too. There was so much potential with this movie, and I think it was wasted on a poorly written script.

The best part was Bowser singing his love for Peaches and the Underground theme song while he played piano and was scheming.

This movie needed more realistic human connection, better writing, and more nostalgia.

Do Revenge (2022)

Had potential
26 September 2022
There was some clever dialogue in the movie that made me lol a little, but overall there were just too many subplots. It didn't feel cohesive at all.

I think Maya Hawke is talented, but I feel she is playing the same role again and again.

I very much liked Camila Mendez in her role.

There were a lot of other talented actors in this movie that were not given enough range in their roles.

A nostalgic soundtrack, but overall this movie was a bit too uneven for me.

Maybe because no characters were super likable or because it seemed like there was a very saccharine resolution to the whole movie.

Poor start strong ending
13 April 2022
The end of this mini series was fantastic. I really liked the credits of the real Pam Hupp at the end. My main issue was that the first two episodes, I couldn't figure out why it was like a weird over the top documentary renenactment and drama at the same time. It finally settled into an actual mini series similar to Dr. Death and others based on podcasts that we have recently seen. I just think they didn't really know where they were going when they made the first few episodes. And by the time they were edited, it was like, well this is what it is. I think people may not have finished the show because of this.

I would recommend listening to the podcast first! I think some of these podcasts are more suited to being converted into tv shows than others. I'm ambivalent about this one, but I'll give it kudos for the last episode. And because Judy Greer was stellar.

Nightmares for a Nine Year Old
18 January 2022
I watched this movie when it came out in 2000. I was 9 years old. I recall enjoying the movie, but that night I had a terrible nightmare. I dreamt that my dad didn't have a head anymore. I woke up and went to my parents room and was relieved to see that my dad was alive and still had a head. I slept with the lights on for the rest of the night. One day I will rewatch this movie. And just preemptively sleep with my lights on to avoid any headless appearances in my dreams.

It was under 2 hours long!
23 May 2021
The plot doesn't go super deep, and it leaves a lot of things unanswered. But for a drama that is under 2 hours long, I got what I wanted in a movie. A story, a problem, some action, some redemption. I would not go see it in the theatres, but watching it on HBO Max was quite satisfying. They could have made this move another 45 minutes longer and fleshed out all of the background info, but I'm glad they didn't. I have not read the book though, but I will!

Not at all like the book
5 April 2021
It's terrible compared to the book and makes Elena and Mia seem like terrible terrible people. The plot points in the show are not accurate.

I will say the kid actors and Reese were wonderful!

Kerry Washington was definitely casted wrong for this role. I think Mia should have been played by a lesser known actress who could play more of an aloof character than disgusted.

Spice World (1997)

Spice Girls 4ever
8 July 2019
So Spice World came out a month after the Titanic. It had some stiff competition. While everybody was obsessing about Leonardo DiCaprio, I was obsessed about Spice World.

I got to see it in theatres during a school day because my sister and I both had head lice and had to stay home. (Our hair was already shampooed with the special stuff and in a bun by the time we went to the movie)

I still have no idea what the friend who was pregnant had to do with anything, but babies are just part of the plot line sometimes. And a lot of people love babies.

But I loved the Spice Girls and still do, and I have my Spice Girls diary still.

This movie doesn't have the most rich content, but I didn't go to the movies as a 6 year old for that. I went to see my idols that I had pretended to be in my room as I danced hours on end. I went for the music. These songs still identify my youth.

P.S. I cried when the Spice Girls broke up the first time.

Even though I grew up in the 90s, this reminds me of my youth. Biking around, making "scary" movies with my parents Hi-8 Sony Video camcorder. I'm not usually a huge sci-fi gal, but I love this show. Beautiful story telling and talented actors.

We need more Jules!
8 July 2019
I don't know how I feel about this show. On the one hand it is very triggering because of the content.

The content of the show does not seem appropriate/realistic for a teenager in the "real world."

I think Zendaya is a wonderful actress, but I don't love the whole "drug-addicted teen, who still obviously needs a lot of help" character.

The most magnetic character is Jules, and Hunter does such a wonderful job at representing her. I want the show to be about Jules because she is the most joyful, unique character on the show. I love the flashback of her youth, and how she still struggles with who she is at times. I want this show to have a more positive arc because the whole "let's glorify teens making terrible decisions theme" is not great within this whole social media era where teens are already trying to live up to these unreal people on the internet. This show gives a trans character/ actress a place to shine, and I think that's what we need more of.
