One Day (2024)
Casting all wrong
I wanted to love this so badly, but unfortunately the casting of Emma was just so wrong. Ambika was fantastic in This is Going to Hurt, but she brings the same awkward, downcast energy to One Day which just does not work. I found her portrayal of Emma far too simplistic and one dimensional.
Absolutely no chemistry between the leads, which is vital to the story. To be perfectly frank, a big part of it is due to any sort of romance between them being so utterly unbelievable. A shame really, as Dex is cast well and, along with some of the supporting actors, really carried the show.
When the film was released I remember being a bit disappointed that they hadn't cast a British actor for Emma. However, on reflection, Anne Hathaway does the role far greater justice.
Sarangeui bulsachak (2019)
Simply magnificent! I loved everything about it.
I absolutely adored this beautiful, funny, tense of a series.
Fanstastic acting - specifically to Captains Ri's four comrades who really stole the show at times! However, I loved them all and was so invested in all their individual storylines.
I'd love a second season, but I do appreciate the simplicity of the ending. It stays true to the complexity of their relationship and doesn't just give the viewer a stereotypical happy ending.
I loved it through and through. This series will be hard to replace!
Altered Carbon (2018)
Season 1: Incredible, Season 2: Utterly disappointing
I was completely hooked on season one. The acting and storyline was better than anything I've seen in a long time. I was so excited to watch season two, but was beyond disappointed with how boring and lacklustre it was. It's like watching a completely different show! I understand the new sleeve for the character and therefore change of cast made sense to the season 1 storyline, but it really ruined it for me. Devastating!
Modern Love (2019)
Divine
Binged the whole season in a day. Each story is fantastic and so beautifully told. Fingers crossed they do more!
