Justified: City Primeval (2023)
Unwatchable - Would the REAL Raylan Givens Please Stand Up
I wish, oh I really wish when they decided to do a miniseries update for Justified, they would have been true to the original series. But no, they didn't... As a true fan of the real Justified series, the Raylan Givens character and what he stood for, that is what I was looking for when I started watching this new series. Unfortunately, soon I realized the writers of this awful miniseries went clean off the rails and the real Raylan Givens died on that Harlan road years ago when that bullet grazed his head. I struggled getting through the first few episodes of this train wreck and immediately removed it from my Hulu watch list and gave it the appropriate rating. Back to watching the original series where I'm content...
Blacklight (2022)
A Disappointing Political Agenda Fantasy!
I'm a Liam Neeson fan, as well as an action movie fan. This film leaves a bad taste in my mouth, a foul stench of a political fantasy to bolster political agendas in todays America. While there's an attempt to make this this 'realistic' if fails across the board. There's absolutely no way this story line is feasible in any way, shape or form. I have to wonder if there are really people out there that will buy this. This movie should have the tags; fantasy, science fiction, etc.. it's so very predictable, and as so, it's dumb! The person Neeson portrays in this film is suppose to be a smart man, but he'd never be in the predicament he finds himself in! I gave the film 4 stars because I like Neeson, it's nothing more than a time filler movie.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Decent Resident Evil Prequel
Just watched this after buying on Apple. Glad I waited to buy and not rented. Not worth the $20 I paid Apple for it, other than I own it now and I have all the Resident Evil movies. It's absolutely not as bad as many of the poor reviews given here on this app. I think people are expecting way too much from this genre. They just aren't 10 star movies, let's be honest... BUT... if you like the Resident Evil movies, in general, you'll enjoy watching this one. It's a decent watch.
Cardinal (2017)
Excellent Old School Style Police Crime Thriller
I came across this gem on Hulu and it's fantastic. The acting is excellent, the scenery in the show is great. And absolutely NO political nonsense (aka Wokeness).
Underwater (2020)
A Convoluted Mess of a Film
A very difficult film to stay engaged with. It's just all over the place. There's some nice visuals, but overall a convoluted mess to keep up with.
Wrong Turn (2021)
Eliza Dushku Would Laugh at Calling this Wrong Turn
I wish I would have read the reviews here before I spent $10 bucks on this movie in iTunes. If you read my reviews here, I have never included spoilers. But everyone needs to be warned, this is NO Wrong Turn Movie. They should be sued for false advertising. This movie could have been called something like; The Foundation, Virginia Mountain Folk; Kangaroo Court; but certainly not Wrong Turn. Its an aberration to call it so. I have every real Wrong Turn movie with the funny little mutant hillbillies that eat all their victims. No one lives.
In this film, it's about silly Kangaroo Courts, a jail cell for blinded victims, and converting trespassers into their kind. The real Wrong Turn Hillbillies would have wanted to kill and eat everyone in this film, and 20 minutes into it, I was cheering for it.
You've been warned, stay out of the woods this time or be a victim like me.
Hunter Killer (2018)
Entertaining Hollywood Fantasy
Gave 7 Stars for the films pure entertainment value and scenery. But if I could give it a rating for realism, it would be a 1 Star film. Absolutely pure fantasy in every way. They could have included Marvel comic characters in the film it was such ridiculous fantasy.
Extinction (2018)
Would Someone Make this Movie Extinct?
Not wanting to place any spoilers in this review. Just feel totally duped by Netflix. Their movie making is awful. I canceled them months ago and was bored over the holidays so I reactivated and canceled again after seeing junk like this. Wouldn't even call it a 'B' Movie, more like a 'C' Movie. Watch at your own risk....
The Mummy (2017)
Not as Bad as Some Reviews Say, Just Average
Okay, so I waited for this movie to come out on the cheap Blu-ray listing before getting it and was glad I did... maybe the really bad reviews were written by people that went to the theater to see it and paid a lot so the really bad reviews are their form of payback. This movie is not as bad as the really negative reviews say it is. It's certainly watchable... the real problem in my humble opinion is the casting of Tom Cruise in the lead role. He doesn't have the silly charisma that Brendan Fraser had in the 1999 film, which I thought was a real key ingredient. Also, I didn't see the chemistry between Cruise and co-star Jenny Halsey that was very evident between Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
The plot was not very fulfilling either. I am not placing any spoilers in this simple review, but if you watch this film, I think you'd understand my point.
The First Purge (2018)
Inciting a Race War
Super disappointing movie. The film is suppose to depict how the fictional "Purge" all started. Rather than creating an intelligent storyline, they completely dumbed up this film and attempt to make it a race war. It's time to stop making garbage like this. I'd avoid this film unless you're looking for racial hate.
Lost in Space (2018)
Crush, Kill, Destroy
Any true Lost in Space fan knows and understands my chosen review title. I've given this series 3 stars because of what the writers have done to the characters in the Lost in Space TV Series, as they've not been true to the series at all. They've taken the Character of John Robinson, who was a man of integrity, strong in every way and was the leader of his family and turned him into a weak, panty wearing subordinate to his wife, Maureen. Speaking of which, they "modernized" the family by making Maureen a "stong and independent" woman who is seeking a divorce from John, as well as custody of the children, which she wants to take to space without John. And oh, by the way, she wears the pants in the family.... the writers chose to give Dr. Smith virtual gender reassignment surgery and made him a woman, seriously?
Judy appears to be the love child between Maureen and the Mail man, because the actor that portrays her, while likable, and intelligent, visibly couldn't be John's daughter. They turned the robot into a vicious looking killer and Don into a criminal smuggler.
The visuals are stunning and beautiful, I really like the Jupiter and Chariot. Another reason this even got 3 stars. In an attempt to overly modernize the Robinson family, the writers ended up destroying an iconic American TV explorer family. Another reason to dislike Netflix!
Waco (2018)
Liberalized Hollywood Fantasy of a Child Molester
What an incredibly disappointing twisted tale to make the U.S. Government look foolish and this child molester look like a great law abiding citizen. Absolutely sickening. I gave it 3 starts for the set produced for this series, which was very real looking. But the makers of this did all the victims of David Koresh an true injustice by making him to appear to be some great man, when he was nothing but a criminal and pedophile.
If you really want to see the true story, watch the documentary Waco: Madman or Messiah (2 part) documentary on A&E.
47 Meters Down (2017)
47 Reasons to NOT see this movie...
So disappointed with this film. It's (1) Boring, the acting is (2) Weak, the story line makes (3) No sense. The attributes of the actors are a complete (4) Farce, (5) Far Fetched and (6) Ridiculous, that even a dullard would find it (7) Idiotic. If you choose to buy this movie as I did on Blu-ray you will (8) Regret it and may one day use it to hang from your rear view mirror like it's 1990 all over again. I could give you the other 39 reasons to not watch this film, but I've reached my magic number of required lines to fully warn you... Gave it 3 Stars for the scenery.
Atomic Blonde (2017)
Overrated, Over Hyped, and Disjointed
I found this movie massively disappointing. It was completely over hyped as the new "female bond"
. Nothing of the sort at all! The story was completely disjointed. Was really an overrated action movie that had a great sound track (probably better than the movie itself)
And speaking of the music, it was way too loud through the movie, which made it more of a distraction.
Area 51 (2015)
Complete Nonsense
I wish I wouldn't have wasted my time watching this, as it was nothing but complete nonsense from start to end. In my opinion, you will be dumber for watching it. There's no possible way anything done by the kids in the movie could have been accomplished to penetrate the defenses of the Groom Lake facility, just for starters, let alone getting into buildings or finding what they supposedly found, and the ending... good lord.
Drone (2017)
Ruined by Political Innuendos
A decently made film, however, I am extremely offended by the political innuendos made in the film. No one wants to lose loved ones in a war, including the war on terror and it's absolutely horrible to see innocent people get killed as collateral damage. I see this film as a slap in the face to the US Government and to those defending our Country honorably.
Knock Knock (2015)
Should Have Trusted Poor Reviews
All I can say about this movie is that I should have trusted the extremely poor reviews, as they were pretty spot on. Had I done that I wouldn't own this piece of junk in my Blu-ray collection now. Trust me folks, wait for this to come out on Netflix and/or Amazon video. They both get plenty of movies that are 3 or 4 out of 10 stars. I didn't think Keanu Reeves could act this poorly (stick to playing Neo and John Wick). He was probably wondering why he was making this movie himself, when he was acting... you'll see what I mean when you watch this. The two girls made absolutely brilliant psychos. They played their roles well, but it was just way, way, way too much. I have to wonder if this situation actually happened to someone and then wrote a screen play. Either that, or they have a very whacked mind.
Hitman: Agent 47 (2015)
Solid Action Movie
I found Hit-man Agent 47 to be a very solid action movie. Personally. I'm not a "gamer" and not familiar with who "Agent 47" is in video games, etc... and I've read plenty of reviews here on IMDb, on this movie and have found that the negative reviews, are coming from people that seem to be "gamers" are low balling this movie for some game related connections. Again, I'm not a gamer, I am rating this movie on it's pure content, acting, plot, etc... which I think is fair. And I find this to be a terrific action movie, well acted and suspenseful. It's a thrill ride from start to finish! A decent follow up from the first movie. I'd love to see another Hit-man film.
Uncle John (2015)
Like Watching Paint Dry
I tried to give this movie a chance. It started off well, but the story just dragged on, and I felt like I was watching paint dry... There was an opportunity by the director, or the writer to make this movie more interesting to viewers by expanding on the back story of several characters mentioned in the movie and how they connected with the main character. If they had done that, it certainly would have made the movie more interesting and would have given viewers a clearer story as to why the main character, made the choices he made. To me, that missing information, was the key to the entire story and it wasn't told... at all. Thus making the film as a whole, hollow!
Good Kill (2014)
Good Potential, Ruined by Political Propaganda
I found this movie to be very upsetting personally, having spent 20 years in the U.S. Military. This movie portrays military personnel and the military family in general in an extremely negative way. The movie is also written in a propaganda format that questions U.S. policies on the war on terror. It shows military personnel at high levels questioning their orders and actions on a daily basis and tensions within their ranks/unit because of that. The main character, played by Ethan Hawke, clearly needs help in many ways (not being specific purposely). To think that a senior officer wouldn't notice his behaviors and would continue to allow the character (a senior officer himself) to continue to fly drones and kill targets is ludicrous.
