She (2020)
The Indian equivalent of Red Sparrow
Wow... something different ! With all the espionage thrillers and a lot of wannabe The Spy, this comes about as a refreshing change.
Aditi nails it as a coy constable transforming into a call girl to get to the inner circle of an organized crime cartel.
Amazing performance by Vijay Verma as well in the role of a Hydrabadi ganglord.
A must watch this quarantine season.
Chernobyl (2019)
Eerie and gripping with that frightful gloom... in one word outstanding
I am Indian by birth but i was in Russia (USSR) back in the early 1980s. As soon as i finished the first episode of Chernobyl i pulled out my old photo album and i could not believe how true they made it look. I was in Vladivostok back then and i was just 4 years old.
The apartments, the streets, they hairstyle everything is like a perfect match !.
But what is really scary is how they have executed the show. My heart beats faster when ever i hear the Geiger counters go off. One can only imagine the horror of the disaster and the fear of death these Heros must have gone through (many of them unaware).
I was actually shivering when they were explaining the possible outcome of the fallout through dialogs.
This is an outstanding series. I would vote 11/10 if i could !
Queen (2013)
Queen is soul stirring
Its not every year (or sometimes even years) that you come across a bollywood flick that stays with you for days after you watched it. Queen is one such film that will make you want to watch it again.
The story is similar in theme to English Vinglish (Yet another masterpiece) but stands out in execution and story telling.
Kangana Ranaut delivers her career best in Queen no doubt.
I was actually there on location in Amsterdam sometime in September 2012 when they were filming the last scene where she runs down the bridge to meet her friends at the rock show. The simplicity of the set and all involved was an indication of a good film which i later found out was to be named 'Queen' Watch it right away and you will leave the hall with a smile.
