My 3 year old LOVED this movie and that's what matters
28 December 2023
However for me as an adult, although I enjoyed it too, I was perplexed why they made the choice of making dinosaurs so "human" that they had even developed agriculture. They're seen ploughing crops, except they're using their bare head to do so. They're building advanced structures to keep crops for the seasons.

Meanwhile, the humans in the movie are crawling on all fours and acting more like warthogs than modern apes. The contrast between the dumb humans and dinosaurs is so bizarre due to this odd choice, it just made it feel less magical.

All that being said, my 3 year old still wanted to watch the movie twice in a row so I can't criticize it too much outside of that.

Keke Palmer sadly almost ruined this horror for me
30 July 2023
It would have been a good, suspenseful horror movie, leaving you wondering what on earth is happening... IF it hadn't been for the most over-the-top exaggerated extroverted Keke Palmer filling EVERY SINGLE silent moment where you otherwise COULD have been finding out what's going on yourself.

Mysterious things finally start happening, and while you otherwise would have been left with your own thoughts looking at the mystery through Daniel's perspective, the bubble of mystery is instead burst by Keke's SHRILLING vocal outbursts through the entire ordeal.

The exaggerated, comical accent and tone just ENTIRELY kills the otherwise eerie suspense for me.

Every single attempt of horror moment, she manages to kill. No pun intended.

A good example of why a heroic main character with a selfless goal is important
29 July 2023
Matt Damon got many more people killed in the process of trying to rescue himself. Kind of hypocritical, no?

Simply put, the main character Matt Damon is early on involved in a workplace accident which virtually dooms him. With 5 days to live after a fatal dose of radiation, the plot begins. But with no other stakes than his own life, he seeks out help that might get him to Elysium, a haven for rich people with equipment that can heal you of virtually everything.

So, you're supposed to root for this single man to survive while others die in the process of it, while there's billions of people on this overpopulated futuristic Earth and basically everything going on in the background looking way more bleak than Matt Damon's fate.

I love the effects and 10 years later it still holds up IMO, I truly appreciate Neill Blomkamp's work, and this truly holds up.

But what most of his work often lacks is a more solid plot and/or writing. This movie sadly was carried by the effects alone most of the time.

The blandest main character I've ever seen
24 September 2022
There's absolutely no personality to this actress, you feel nothing for her the entire time. Because SHE doesn't emote anything at all.

She's like the blandest meal you could ever get, like stale and cold rice.

She's so ''matter of fact'' and standoffish with the few characters she does communicate with, which leaves you with nothing as the show continues.

With the right actors you can feel the TRUE fear and horror of being stranded in the wilderness, but this actress just can not do the bare minimum. You can't read her emotions and thoughts on her face, which is important when you have a character alone without being able to verbally express themselves. In those cases you completely rely on facial expressions, which you don't get here.

Funny and more or less an accurate depiction of retail
9 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This must be one of the few shows where I just DON'T like the ''main'' character, Amy, as much as the other characters. She's stand-offish, offended over and over again, her husband is dumb and selfish, her daughter is rude and snippy and not really written to be liked. She expects Jonah to sacrifice his job for her when a conflict occurs, but gets offended for having her job at risk when that doesn't go as planned. She gets the manager job by blackmailing the supervisor. I don't know if the writers have done this on purpose, but the protagonist is continuously selfish.

I like the characters, the humour, I've been laughing literally out loud so many times. The humour is quick and snarky and with several running gags.

Throughout the entire show you'll also see the incredibly dumb quirks of the average customer and shopper and what retail workers must go through dealing with this.

The characters are without a doubt quite zany and exaggerated, but it's still down to earth with other things, such as some of the romance and family matters.
