Fahrenheit 451 (2018)
Wasted 2 hours of my life.
Best part was the beautiful flocks of birds at the end. Which had nothing to do with the original book or film.
Phantom Thread (2017)
The thread of a plot is the phantom here ....
Sorry, this film left me frustrated and angry. Other than enjoying the costumes and dressmaking, I was completely bored. DDL's character was a jackass, and his girlfriend/muse/wife was a sociopath. The ending was ridiculous. Really sorry I wasted 130 minutes on this.
Jayne Mansfield's Car (2012)
A Disappointment
I love Duvall, and enjoy most things with BBT, but this one let me down. Many unexplained character back stories, none of the adults were happily married, and aside from that, it appeared that no one had a job, yet they could afford to live in this beautiful antebellum mansion with a maid, numerous cars and a swimming pool. Also, the characters' ages seemed off for the time period, i.e. the movie took place in 1969, and the 3 sons were all veterans of WW2 25 years earlier - they didn't look old enough, especially Bacon. I was disappointed in this movie, was hoping for something as good as Slingblade. I would have turned it off but I just kept thinking there would be some redeeming plot twist or character development, but nothing ever came.
At Any Price (2012)
Implausible and Far-fetched
I had high hopes for this movie, but the main characters commit adultery, robbery and murder, all without any consequences whatsoever, and life just rolls happily on. This is probably Dennis Quaid's worst work ever. He hammed and overacted all the way through. Heather Graham's role was completely unnecessary and served no purpose. Zac Efron was the only bright spot in the movie, giving a solid performance and showing his A-list potential. The wife's character is an ignorant and gullible fool, and either they have a totally incompetent police department in that town, or else the screenwriters are, because this script is unrealistic trash with gaping plot holes throughout. It's a shame, because so much more could have been told about the problems facing family farms today, but this movie is a total waste of time.
