A Turkish Cinematic Masterpiece
30 May 2006
Without giving away any detail, from the plot of the movie, I can declare to cinema goers that this film is one to seek and watch. The film is very intelligently directed, and the acting is superb.

Not since 'Gegen Die Wand' has Turkish cinema shown it self capable of delivering such a movie.

The acting is also significant, and the way the lead actors portray the indifference and backdrops in middle-class Turkish society is subliminal.

I recommend this movie to anyone who has a keen appetite for European/Turkish cinema.

Bravo.

Just About Watchable, if you have understanding of Turkish culture.

Warning: Spoilers
This Turkish television program series is just about bearable to watch. The acting leaves a lot to be desired, especially from Bora, who should not have been casted in the first place. The simple story line is that there is an Istanbulian police/detective officer, who is drawn into the life of a Turkish women from the east of the country, from a village (how original). The women, Cumbul is naive, heartbroken from a terrible, and very short marriage and determined to get revenge for the honour of her family by killing the husband who now resides in Istanbul. There are a lot of other stuff and characters and its just all muddled up. The directing and script also have significant flaws. If your Turkish, then yeah maybe, but otherwise, if you've got better things to do, than stay away please, for your safety and well being.

An Excellent Picture

I haven't seen many Turkish films, but this was great. The acting of Sen and Cumbul were impressive. A definite contender for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars of 2006. Anyone with intelligence and pluck should see this movie. Could win an award also at Cannes BAFTA , probably not at SAG. However its really good. Could help EU prospects of Turkey, for Europeans to see the culture in such powerful films. I have seen a few other films of Cumbul and Sen after this movie. The Turkish film called Propaganda was very impressive as well, nothing of coarse compared to this movie but still very impressive. This movie on the whole is quite dark, one has to honest. The other third protagonist of the film, dint know his name was also good, though his acting is overshadowed by the other two.

Wait a minute!

This film seems very good, acting is excellent, art direction - amazing, but does it really have a chance of winning Oscars. I mean, with it being a gay movie and all. I personally think it is great that a moving and serious movie about gays is made and id love it to succeed, especially with all the queer hype going on, with homosexuals being allowed to marry in England, yet with the Oscars being so conservative and up tight, can they make a break through?. Any arguments against or for will be much appreciated. And if you think that it will snatch a few Oscars, which ones do you think it will be. Although i think it will be passed by the Oscars, an Oscar for Heath would be deserved, and possibly bets film, though I would prefer it go to Crash. What Do You Lot Think? --
