Hell or High Water (2016)
Best Film This Year
You need to see this movie. That could be this entire review, but I think I should describe how amazing this film is. Unlike most summer movies, the writing is fantastic, keeping me and the rest of the people watching with me attached to the movie and its characters even when they are just talking in a diner or something. Also unlike most other summer movies, the movie does not attempt to create artificial tension in the form of fast cuts or stupid action scenes, it creates tension in the form of dialogue and sometimes in the form of brilliantly filmed action. It should be noted that the cinematography in this film is truly amazing. The cinematography captures the desolateness and sadness of the area of West Texas that the movie is set in. There are also many wide shots, which looked like they were filmed with drones which also added to the beauty of the filming. The music also adds to the western feel of this movie. The writing of this film is where it really shines. The writing is captivating and it is so natural, for the area. The banter between both pairs of characters (the brothers and the rangers) is very entertaining in that you can almost feel their relationship and the history of it. Also, I have to say, the writing for the side characters, who are only in the film for their respective scenes is even better. This is the first time I have ever cared about some random waitress who is only in the film for 90 seconds because their writing is masterful. Also, the acting is definitely some of the best I have seen, Ben Foster and Jeff Bridges both really shine in the film because of their stunning acting. The acting helps in that when Chris Pine and Ben Foster are mid- heist you can really feel the stress when they get into situations that one or both of them are not comfortable with. In closing, this film has amazing writing, cinematography, acting, pacing, everything. This film is just beautiful and you really need to see it, like yesterday, it is easily the best film this year and a major contender for Best Picture, Best Director, etc.
Jason Bourne (2016)
This is boring
This. Is. Very. Boring. The plot is drab, starting with a woman in Iceland (blond who is a regular in this series but I forgot her name) hacking into the NSA or some other US intelligence agency. After this there is (no joke) a 25 minute scene which I can only describe as action porn, nothing else. The dialogue is repulsive, trying to sound impressive by saying things like "it's worse than Snowden" and Tommy Lee Jones telling people to stop things (he does that a lot). I should clarify, the plot is not repulsive because it is non existent. If you Googled "stupid action movie Matt Damon" you would probably get this because this is all that it is, a stupid, clichéd, snooze-fest with far too much shaky-cam. Do not watch this, it is just not good. Oh yeah, and Matt Damon hits people a lot and Alicia Vikander kindve just acts like a robot. This story lacks nuance or subtlety in any and all forms. The action is not particularly good either. Also the tech company sub-plot is somehow less interesting. The writing sounds as if it was done in a day (as in it is simplistic at best). Also, there is far too much coincidence in this movie. The editing is also disorganized and choppy at best, with an average of a cut every 1 to 2 seconds. I almost fell asleep in this film more than once because it simply is too boring. At all points in the movie I just thought "LET IT END ALREADY!".
Revolution: Declaration of Independence (2014)
Ending
Lets face it, this show was not very good from the start, but the story had great potential. The thing NBC did wrong in the first season was that is was too convenient and it was to nice and peachy. After season 2 premiered it was very evident that NBC tried to make it violent and go on the edge but as usual for this company it did not work. Now for this episode. I believe they did not pull it off the way that is should have been. The actors in this are far better than the actual show they acted in. I do not believe that mustard gas was the right evil thing for the "bad people" to use. They could have gone with something that actually had a good story or maybe something more sinister like uranium or sarin gas but mustard isn't sinister enough for the character they were trying to make up. Most of the good characters had so little character development it was sometimes hard to watch. At the beginning of the episode it shows that Pricilla has a wound on her ear lobe. They automatically believe that she is weaker. The fact that she had a wound shows no evidence that they were weaker because she took over a mortal body, it was the body that was injured not the nano tech but whatever. Now for the theater, I expected far more soldiers for a meeting with two presidents of rather large areas, and there weren't any Texas soldiers in the room, only Patriots. Now that Miles and Charlie could just walk into a town in which they are wanted for many offenses without being seen is just annoying. The rest of the episode was alright, I liked the fact that they killed that guy who worked for that girl in New Vegas but they really underplayed it. Finally, ending was just plain terrible. If Texas and the US signed a declaration of war against California and then Texas destroys the US I doubt California would believe they ACCIDENTALLY called for war against them. AND FINALLY, the "preview" to whatever happens next. I believe they really should have brought the power back if this is really the series finale, but they didn't, what they did was they teased mindless humans walking towards some random ice cream store in Idaho(and by the way they were still talking when the people were being convinced to go to this random house, and then during this conversation you see them waling towards the town so the science of time and physics just is too much for NBC) so this show and its finale get a 3.
