Driven (2001)
Not many racing movies + best action hero
Not many racing movies + best action hero.
Rocky/Rambo in a race car that's all you need to know. Effects for 2001 are not bad at all, racing is good. Sly as a veteran driver works for me. I'm an F1 fan, but this indy car movie translates over well. It's no Senna or Rush, but hey it gets the racing juices going for me. It's well done as a movie especially in such a hard to film sport. It's definitely better than the Gran Truism movie, folk need to give Driven a chance if they can find it anywhere. Streaming options are limited best place is probably amazon for a Blu ray. It could end up being a cult classic.
Agneepath (1990)
Great movie
What makes this movie is the dialogue, and none other than the great Kadar Khan wrote dialogue for this film. Sometimes Kadar Khans contributions get overlooked, not only a great writer but also great actor and comedian.
Apart from that, this movie is great, maybe bit nostalgic for me as I watched it as a child, and as and adult I do see its flaws and the fact that it's Bollywood's version/remake of Scareface, but along with Khuda Gawa and shoylay this is one of my favourite Amitab films.
For the sound track I think the film uses music from Jean Michel Jarre "Ethnicolor", which surprisingly works and took me years to find :) and I'm sure the music was legally sourced.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Huge MI fan, but this one is poor! Due to Covid?
Huge MI fan but this one story wise is poor, the AI supernatural aspect is just lame. You can tell because of the pandemic restrictions this film was maybe held back, hence loads of scenes of just awkward talking and not enough action. The previous MI fallout was absolutely amazing, peak of the franchise I think. This the script is poor, the story isn't good, and action isn't enough. However it has some good locations like Birmingham, Rome and Venice and many more. For city holidayers this is a treat, especially seeing Venice and Rome scenes. Also, Tom had a double serving of chicken tikka for this movie in Birmingham , and doubled his efforts to keep movie industry going during the pandemic and therefore I've added additional stars.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
A bit bland, lacking depth and intrigue
A bit bland, lacking depth and intrigue.
Effects are good, very colourful but you are left wanting to care, wanting to be engaged. And also all scenes are very busy and chaotic. Film definitely needed more character development and slower pacing. Half way we got bored and forwarded to the end, and we were even more disappointed, the one thing they had to do and no.
Maybe this is a Harry Potter style film for bigger kids, it is kind of fun but you really left wanting for something to really lock you in: A character, a bit of music or a bit of lore. But there's nothing there that I could find to enjoy this movie.

What happened to Bollywood lol
What happened to Bollywood lol
I grew up on Bollywood movies from about 1985-1997 watched most.
First recent Bollywood movie in 25 years and ...
And now in 2023, films have taken a turn for the worst. Each scene is like a vain, superficial scene from a B TV advert. No depth, no acting and no grit. Terrible!
I tried not to laugh, but this is an actual film.
Impressed with Bollywood cgi however, only if something with depth, emotion and grit could be made minus the superficial vain posing and cheesie dialogues.
Bollywood cinema could be great if movies had depth of old Movies and the music. For now terrible.
Hello World (2020)
Film by one of the best teachers in the world.
Amazing achievement to have a film to make a difference in the world. Most non tech folk won't know but Shawn is one of the best teachers in the world in the e-learning space, literally taught thousands if not millions. Many software developers have been learning using Shawns courses for decades, and these courses are almost self made. So not only do you have to be an engineer, an editor a story teller too. Well done Shawn you've broken that engineer stereotype and become a master of the profession and a master of story telling and now making movies. Just shows with the right mind concentration anything is possible.
Deadpool (2016)
Film makes me feel good
I love deadpool, as a not very actual academic person this film makes me feel good. It makes me feel like I have one over smarter people. Sometimes it even makes me think I only get the jokes which makes me feel even smarter. So for me 10 out 10 as it justifies my life choice up and till now. Only if I could get this kinda validation in other movies I would have more favourite movies. I also love the sequel but this is better and I can't wait for the third one. You could argue this is a feel good movie even though its regarded a super hero action movie. So if you need a lift regarding your life choice watch this uplifting film.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Almost the perfect sequel
Almost the perfect sequel :) including some of the original soundtrack was mega, what makes it a 9/10 for me is that the new music is meh.
Storyline is brilliant, it's a movie folks it's escapism and it's great with loads of nostalgia. People complaining about plot holes, need to stop watching movies and switch to documentaries:)
Creed II (2018)
Film and actors are perfect :)
I grew up on the Rockys, great stories with feels that give you the motivation and inspiration when you need it. The new Creeds are just as good, the new cast have the same heart as the original actors and the music is great. Big thanks to Sly for the Rockys and big thanks for handing the bantten over to the creed franchise with so much elegance. Ryan Coogler, Michael Jordan and Tessa Thompson have done an amazing job.
The Batman (2022)
I think I know what's wrong with this film...
People say it's slow and boring, but I think the issue is Batman isn't doing enough Batman: in every scene Batman is just there, the film is missing how he got there, and how he got there needs to be him doing Batman:
- Roaring through the streets in the batmobile.
- Reving through the streets on the batbike
- Leaving and entering the bat cave in urgency
- Flying through ... you get the idea!
Instead he is just there without any ceremony or urgency and this kills the films tempo. Although a trivial thing, the absence of this has massive impact to overall feeling of the film. Apart from this the art direction and music are great.
Gran Turismo 7 (2022)
Online only and full of micro transactions
One of my favourite franchises but now has taken a few bad turns.
Online only now, and today all day server maintenance meant no one can play the game! Paid 100 pound for premium edition and I don't actually own anything!
Cars are priced too high and you end up buying credits with actual money!
Sad times, paying 100 quid for one game wasn't enough!
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Not sure why this films getting so much hate.
It feels and looks like matrix which is great.
Music is good.
New story is intriguing, with nice ideas.
Old cast are all great, new cast Bugs is really good, shes really good.
Only negative, Bugs crew on this ship is a bit weak acting wise.
I loved Matrix in 1999, as a 19 year old programming student it was awesome :)
A film can't recreate our youth, or the first time we saw something amazing (matrix). This is a good addition, that's a modern matrix with all the right hooks :) Well done!
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Disappointing
Big fan of mortal kombat but this movie is terrible...
What's good...
1. Five minutes of scorpion vs subzero at the start
2. Effects are good
3. Fighting and references to MK moves
What's bad...
1. Bar scorpion rest of the cast are terrible
2. Shallow hollow feeling through felt like TV movie
3. Music is poor, you won't get pumped up like the 1995 version
Loved the 1995 Mortal Kombat, this however nah.
Formula 1: Drive to Survive (2019)
Made up drama in my opinion
Loads of made up drama in my opinion.
Trying to make F1 entertainment instead of a sport like wwf/wwe. And all this drama generation I believe contributed to one of the biggest robberies in sport, manipulating the race result in Abu Dabhi 2021 and denying Lewis Hamilton the 2021 Drivers championship. Absolutely disgusting what happened.
Formula 1 (1950)
Used to be a sport, now wwf/wwe style entertainment
In my opinion, used to be a sport, now wwf/wwe style entertainment. As a fan of 30+ years I can say, F1 lost all integrity in Abu Dabhi 2021, and at the same time many fans. Since the involvement of Driver to Servive there as been a lot of false drama, but the biggest fraud was denying Lewis Hamilton the 2021 Drivers World championship by manipulating the result in the final race in my opinion.
Schumacher (2021)
Excellent film about a racing legend a great family man
I grew up watching Schumacher race, (I live in the UK), and coming from a humble background like Schumacher, seeing Schumacher's work ethic inspired me to work hard and focus in life and it helped me move forward.
This documentary does an excellent job of highlighting Schumachers work ethic, and the need to achieve and solve problems with passion and focus.
Like all of us Schumacher wasn't prefect, but overall the greatest F1 driver by a mile and this is by skill, passion and focus (stats come and go)! Also a great family man.
Drivers today might collect the stats and numbers but for me Schumacher will always be the greatest! I saw what happen and I see today.
Keep fighting Micheal!
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
What a joke
All decisions and conclusions so out of character for each. Someone needs to remake season eight. This is beyond poor and disappointing. Up there with killing bobby off in dallas. Need to wake up in season 9 to find season eight was a bad dream.
