Kohrra (2023)
Very Good
After a long time, Netflix has produced a series which is worthy of binge watching and also broken their tradition of ending the series on an unsatisfactory or ambiguous note. The story build up is nice and layered with each main character having a backstory of their own. The series pacing is decent and keeps you hooked till the end, the tone is even and events unfold in a sequential manner. Acting is decent overall but nobody stands out, the BGM blends very well with the events happening on the screen.
The best part of this series is the characters look and sound very authentic, the series feels very real, swearing is not excessive, the "pind" looks like how any real village would look. There are some things which did not make much sense but they do not break the flow of the story and can be ignored.
Overall a series which does not waste your time, provides a proper ending and keeps you hooked.
Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994)
One of the best SRK films
I had watched this movie back in 1994 , when i was around 10 years old. Recently, i watched this movie again and i liked it even more. This movie also reminded me why SRK was so likeable at that time. His Sunil is flawed just like everyone of us, who happens to lie/cheat to get his way but at the same time he infused Sunil with an earthiness which seem to be missing now a days. You really cared for his Sunil.
SRK at that time had an undeniable charm , which he seems to have lost since KKHH. Now SRK plays character which are not relatable at all.
The supporting cast is perfect except ,may be, Ravi Baswani who looked too old to play Satish Shahs son. Cinematography was excellent capturing the pre-Russia Goan charm to its fullest. Music was very likeable especially a couple of tracks which still sound fresh.
This has to be top 5 SRK films ever.
Bemisal (1982)
Could have been better
I watched this movie today and would like to say that i was disappointed. The movie could have been better with a much tighter screenplay. The story is very haphazard and as a viewer i felt like a child lost in a big party. Acting was OK, cinematography was good, music was excellent but the story left a lot to be desired.
Amitabhs double role made no sense and did not add anything to the story. In fact, it diverted the story from its main topic that of how in the hope of trying to make quick buck you can lose your humanity and sense. The movie needed to delve deeper in the inner conflict faced by Vinod Mehra, Big B and Rakhee but it does not dig deeper into the main theme which would have made the movie much more gripping and thought provoking. The theme chosen by Hrishida was good but cant say the same about the execution. I think the stardom of Big B forced the makers to modify the original story and add extra Big B scenes which, in my opinion, just killed the real theme they wanted to explore.
The biggest disappointment is the movie comes from my fav director Hrishi da but is no where near the class of movies like Anand, Bawarchi, Namak Haraam, Golmaal etc.
Inkaar (1977)
A great Thriller
This is a superb movie. very well directed, fast paced with only 3 songs to break the pace. It was ahead of it times and would make for a great remake. The acting by Vinod Khanna,Shriram Lagoo and Amjad Khan is noteworthy. The background score is really good and adds to the tension. The camera work is also good. the stunts are pretty good.the romantic angle could have been done away with because it adds nothing to the storyline and introduces a useless romantic number to slacken the pace of the movie.Vinod Khanna plays his macho image well while Amjad Khan is great in his negative role
A real thriller in every sense. A must watch
Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002)
A family entertainer
This is a lighthearted Rom-com coming from the stable of Yash Chopra films. The film is a good watch and fairly entertaining although copied from the Hollywood movie"my best friend's wedding" its fairly breezy.
the story is simple and nothing much to write about. the songs are pretty good especially the "Sharara" and "Jaage Jaage Armaan" numbers. the production value and set direction are top notch.the direction is good too.
the film has a good supporting caste who manage to create a family atmosphere.Tulip Joshi in her debut role is confident,Bipasha is strictly okay. Saurabh Shukla and Nina Kulkarni are competent. Uday Chopra hams his way through and goes on to prove that even if you are privileged, it does not necessarily transcend into being talented.his dialog delivery is bad,add to it his irritating voice and demeanor. Jimmy Shergill is the glue holding the movie,he looks good and acts well. Once again proving how underrated he as an actor is.
Overall a good watch
