Good, but flawed
Butchered parts of the book I thought were important. Direction was terrible. Franco looked like he was holding in gas half the time. Some scenes, like Sadie's house with ex-husband and gun were so poorly staged, I cringed. Huge gaps in storyline. Apartments in Dallas were palaces compared to King's description in book. As with many King adaptions, enjoyable, but disappointing.
Mr. Mercedes (2017)
Too many changes from book/iffy direction
Why hire a 20-something year old to play a high school boy? There are plenty of good teen-age actors. Why make characters ages different just to get young, pretty actresses in the show?
The script butchered the books and it wasn't necessary. There are some really big plot holes. Acting is spotty and direction is very uneven. Conversational scenes seem stilted and uncomfortable. Why does Donna keep disappearing? Why are extra characters introduced when they aren't needed? There were plenty of characters in the books. Same thing that happens with too many Stephen King books.
Collateral (2018)
OK, not great
Im only two episodes in and I will definitely watch to the end because I'm enjoying it, but it does have some big flaws.
A previous reviewer nailed it when s/he said this was written like a play, not a movie.. Some scenes are like old "Law & Order SVU" episodes with each character taking turns telling us a bit of information. Very little depth of character; dialogue too rapid-fire. While I agree with the liberal points of view here, I don't like them being presented in such a ham-fisted manner.
