Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
B MOVIE
I don't even where to start with this movie. Netflix invested in advertising quite a bit and it seemed like the sci-fi that we've been missing. It's definitely a breath of fresh air to get an exclusive after so long but boy oh boy...
Why is Snyder put on such a pedestal? He has a few good movies but did he really do such a great job with the DCEU?
Anyway.. back to rebel moon, visuals are not impressive. Storyline is nothing original. Although they have a few ok actors, it just didn't translate/ deliver. There's a certain Lack of chemistry with the movie, hard to explain but those who have seen it know what I mean. First 20mns were promising but went to crap afterwards, this is a B movie at best.
In my opinion, it would have been better as a series.
Very mediocre, uninteresting, not captivating, nothing innovative!!!
Blue Beetle (2023)
Death to superhero movies
I still had high hopes when people were complaining and screaming to put an end to superhero movies a couple of years ago. This genre seems to be the new trend just like zombie movies about a decade ago. Now, after so many disappointments, I believe this is it for me.. Blue bettle is all of the following: weak plot, boring, predictable, horrible acting, crappy writing, and much more... Another thing that bothered me about the movie was the constant screaming and chaos that is supposed to be representative of a Latino family perhaps? To me it was just a way to mask the lack of solid acting and a solid plot. I'll never understand when writers, directors don't even attempt to convince us to believe in what we're watching.. The movie isn't a comedy, at least not to me so grandmas kicking special military units ' butts isn't going to fly with me. I thought Black Adam was mediocre, this is just plain bad. Last point.. I don't understand why it's even pg13? Just because they felt the need to throw a few curse words around? Urgh..
The Creator (2023)
Decent!
After watching Tenet, I was excited to see John David Washington in another sci-fi movie. The visuals for the creator are amazing. The plot is decent but the flaws within it could have been easily avoided. There is something very familiar about the creator.. it seems to take little bits and pieces from different movies to make it what it is; perhaps a bit of i-robot mixed with elysium? Well maybe that's a stretch but the plot just doesn't seem original. All in all, my biggest issue with the movie is the idea of trying to make robots more human than humans. The sentimental, emotional attributes aren't something I picture robot would care for. The need to survive would suffice and should have been highlighted more than trying to show emotional connections etc..
Durante la tormenta (2018)
Wow!!
I found this movie randomly just browsing through Netflix and wow, this has to be the best movie I've seen in years. I can't say if it's best to watch it in original language but the dubs didn't bother me at all and didn't feel awkward like some movies. The acting was great, although translating the emotions etc.. into English felt a bit off at times but that's normal. The script is amazing and I've come to realize that some of the best thoughtful stuff I've watched are from Spanish films. If you're into time travel with great story telling with a bit of a twist then this is for you!! I'm surprised this isn't rated higher, I'd be interested to know what people who rated this poorly are into. 10/10 for me!!
Your Honor (2020)
Mediocre
Missed opportunity. I feel like the plot has the potential to be such a great show but it's such a drag. It feels like a soap opera at times. Not enough suspense, not even action, not enough drama to keep you captivated. I'll see it till the end just because I've watched enough to want to find out what happens but I'm not enjoying much of it at this point into the end of the 2nd season. There's better shows out there, avoid! The characters are annoying, first the son (Adam).. then the wife (Gina Baxter). Bryan Cranston and Isiah Whitlock do a pretty good job at acting and are my favorite characters. The show won't get better at this point.
Black Adam (2022)
Surprisingly good!!!!!
It would be an interesting experiment to separate the reviews from people who knew a bit about the character before watching the movie and those who don't. The movie turned out way better than i expected. It's not the strongest acting and script was awkward at times but I think the nonstop action made up for it. I think Dwayne Johnson was a natural in that role. Dr fate and Awkman were awesome, can't say the same for the other 2. My only issue is the hero/vilain debacle.. Black Adam is supposed to be a darker/more evil character. I would have loved to see the rated R version. Another thing is where's Shazam?
Ambulance (2022)
What's wrong with Hollywood these days?
These type of movies are so cringe.. everyone loves a good action packed movie but this feels like something only a teenager would enjoy.
Horrible script, no real character development, mediocre acting, action and story that are just hard to believe no matter how hard you try. If you enjoy stuff like 6 underground, maybe you'll like this one also.
Hard Candy (2005)
Annoying
I thought Elliot Page's acting was amazing. Her character was annoying and made me want to root for "Jeff" despite the circumstance. "Hayley" was not developed enough and made you wonder why do all that? Ending was flawed, Jeff could have easily chosen a different outcome or at least try to.. Could have been a really great movie but they wasted the potential.. 6/10 mostly for the acting.
The Last Thing He Wanted (2020)
Waste of time
Let's just say You'd think you'd left the room and missed 30mns of the movie after watching it.. A lot of missing piece and lack of clarity/ explanation.. ultimately you're going to ask yourself wtf did I just watch? Unless you know the story/ read the book already, dont bother watching this!!
IO (2019)
Where's the rest?
It felt like a 30mn short film.. the movie just like so many netflix originals had potential but didnt deliver. There's always a build up leading you to think the ending will be satisfying when it's not. I felt like i was watching matt damon's Martian with a tiny bit of will Smith's I am legend..
Bird Box (2018)
Meh
The movie was just okay at best.. nothing more! Defintely not original, dont know anything about this entity causing all the chaos, no character development, a bit hard to grasp the idea that someone can navigate/survive for so long blindfolded, ending just fell flat.. I wonder how much Netflix paid Sandra Bullock.. just to come out with another mediocre content!
Arrow (2012)
mediocre
This show has so much potential and I want to love it but can't due to many reasons; The acting/directing can be pretty poor at times. I expected so much more from the fighting scenes.. but they're just not believable (In one of the episodes, a villain was about to shoot the "green Arrow" but you can see how he waited to be punched instead). The story is too predictable. What's been happening so far on the island is just ridiculous and boring and doesn't make much connection with how Oliver is now a changed man, how skilled he is as a fighter and how hurtful the whole experience was!! I've been watching the episodes back to back, thats the only reason why I'm kept interested but I can't see how someone can religiously follow this week by week.
