An utterly poignant film. Helena Bonham Carter should have won the Oscar.
30 June 2008
Directed by Iain Softley, "The Wings of the Dove" is a period drama set in England, which tells the story of Kate Croy (Helena Bonham Carter), a beautiful, wealthy, woman who wishes to marry a common journalist, Merton Densher (Linus Roache.) Their love is forbidden by society, until a young heiress from America (Alison Elliot), enters their lives, and tempts the couple to set forth an unorthodox plot to be together.

The acting in the film is superb. Helena Bonham Carter's sensual, thoughtful, performance as Kate Croy earned her many critics awards, as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Actress (This reviewer maintains that she should have won.) Supported by a wonderful supporting cast, Alison Eliot delivers a touching performance as the young heiress, and Linus Roache is magnificent as Bonham Carter's poverty-stricken love interest. The film is further enhanced by the beautiful cinematography, at it's best in the scenes set in Venice, and the gorgeous costumes.

Inaccurate
21 August 2006
This movie was a shockingly inaccurate re-telling of Anne Frank's life in hiding. Obviously, there wasn't a lot of effort put into it. Names were mispronounced, (Mar-go became Mar-git, Anna became Ann, etc. etc)scenes were fabricated especially for the film (The Hannukah celebration) and almost no one resembled (In any way shape or form) the characters they were set to portray. Millie Perkins plays Anne out to be a saint, and although she was an amazing person, she, like all of us, had her short comings. By not including this, the character became onedimesnional, and unrelatable, which certainly isn't Anne in the least bit.

This movie is good in it's own right, but is definitely not the way to go for someone seeking to know the real Anne Frank.

6/10.

Amazing...Very under-appreciated
14 August 2006
Very rairly will a 'flawless' film be released. A movie so perfect, no amount of nit-picking can destroy it. Unlike it's predecessor, Anne Frank: The Whole Story goes out of it's way to be as accurate to the true story as possible, and the cast is physically reminiscent of their true-life counterparts. The sad thing is, no amount of praise on these boards can give this film the recognition it deserves. It should be #1 on the top #100, it should be shown regularly on television. More people should know about it! In short, this made-for-television movie is 10x better than anything I've ever seen in a cinema. Do yourself a favor. When feeling down, rent this movie, and see how much you take for granted. For three hours, you will be magically transported to the 1940's. You will become Anne Frank. You'll live with her, love with her, and cry with her.

10/10 stars.

Phat Girlz...Amazing
19 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is amazing. Any one who says otherwise is just hating because they are skinny and miserable. Most people who voted haven't even see the movie-they hate the message (Big is beautiful.) Monique is hilarious and inspiring as Jazmin Bilmore, a plump diva living in a world that refuses to accept her. She also delivers n emotional performance towards the end of the film, in which she must cry, scream, etc. But all in all, this is a feel good movie, and if you miss it you'll regret it. Take out two hours of your day...See the movie and laugh like you've never laughed before. I have a feeling that this will be a very under-appreciated film...But don't let that stop you from seeing it!

Boring and Cliché
15 October 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry but this movie get's on my last nerve. It's not funny or witty, and it's incredibly cliché. The children are complete brats with smart mouths and we are supposed to think it's funny. I cannot believe they are making a sequel to this. And I cannot believe two hours of my life were wasted watching this repulsive film. I have watched some AWFUL films, but I can always find at least one nice thing to say about them. Butfor this movie, I cannot even think of one. My mind wandered the entire time I was watching it, and I couldn't help thinking "I paid 10$ for this???! Honestly I really doubt even the youngest of children would find this film entertaining. 1/10, but if I could I would give it a zero. Thumbs down for Cheaper By The Dozen.

Deliciously ditzy comedy about Prue-reunion Romy and Michele
14 June 2005
First off, I just want to say, if you are expecting to exactly relive the experience of Romy And Michele's High School reunion over again-the awesome one liners, the hilarious dream sequences etc..., you may be disappointed, as this is really a different film entirely. But if you go into it with an open mind, and don't compare it to the original all the time, you will probably have yourself a good laugh.

I personally loved the performances. With all sequels/prequels that do not have the same cast as the previous film(s), there is already an idea of what to expect from the main actors/actresses. I thought Katherine Heigl (Romy) and Alex Breckinridge (Michele) did a great job of really making the characters they're own, and not just doing imitations of the characters from the first film.

And with so many of the same people working on this film that worked on the last film, many of the elements that made Romy And Michele's High School Reunion so great are present. While some people may say that this film is not as funny as the previous one, I found it endearing, as the unbreakable friendship between the two girls is evident in this movie, as it was in the previous one.

In conclusion: This is one movie you just might want to check out. Be patient, don't compare it to the original all the time, and go in with an open mind-you just might be glad that you did.
