Odyssey: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Bland war propaganda infomercial
I gave it three stars for the fact that on a $15k budget, the sound, cinematography and visuals are quite well done. However almost from the start it felt like it was a movie made for new army recruits to "get" why they have signed up. The repetitive droning voice-over ruined this for me. The 12 minute run was skipping from one thing to the next without any real character development. Watch it as a Star Wars curio, otherwise give it a miss.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
A triumph of endless action scenes over plot
This was a disappointing movie in that there were far too many 5 minute and longer fight scenes throughout the movie. It was just tedious. It meant that the small degree of plot development was lost. I ended up skipping forward in 15 second bursts, especially one 10 minute long sequence. Maybe there are people out there who are entertained by endless fight scenes, but I'm not.
Domestik (2018)
Bloated, barbaric
Described as a sort of horror, yes it's horrific in a barbaric sense.
It's scenes are too long, bloated, the story is predictable to the extent that's it's boring to watch and wait it take 2 hours to get there.
The gratuitous rape scene is unneeded and unwanted.
The ending is a damp squib.
Overall, the most disappointing world premiere I've been to, at an otherwise great film festival in Karlovy Vary.
Der Hauptmann (2017)
Great promising first half petered out
I really liked the cinematography and the acting overall, however the (true) story for me started to lose its flow and pace around the time it got to Camp II. After that it was a little drawn out, and maybe that's because as a historic event it was most subject of focus. For me as a disinterested party it was overdone. Still, well worth a watch.
