Overrated but still fantastic
23 January 2023
The Omaha Beach scene is the highlight of the movie, the rest ends up being generic hollywood schlock where even John Woo´s Windtalkers offers better fight sequences. THe hurt locker, so many much more intense and gritty movies were made in the time since this came out. What makes Saving Private Ryan great aren´t the fight sequences after Omaha Beach, but the emotional baggage that the soldiers have to carry to save private ryan. What makes spielberg so celebrated isn´t the script or plot itself, but the cinematography which is oscarworthy in this movie, but man, the simping over the years.... sheesh. Talk about normies and hollywood and the magic of brainwashing the audience with press and publicitynepotism.

Das Boot, All quiet on the western front, apocalypse now, the deer hunter, downfall, enemy at the gates, Tuntematon sotilas.windtalkers, i would watch night and day over saving private ryan. Better atmosphere or better action sequences, many of those even have better acting like das boot or the deer hunter. Nontheless watching saving private ryan is a blast for its few good sequences, snipertower, omaha beach, etc, but its actually kinda hillarious at the end. I will always remember tom hanks shooting his 1911 at a tank and magically being saved by the airforce. What cheese. Usually only seen in b movies.

Best made romance
30 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There´s nothing more to say but: this is why modern taste decayed. This movie is a simplistic formula perfectionized by raw drama and inner conflicts, it became a message. This movie has aesthetics and an immersionfactor like GotS 1995, like none other.

If you do not like this movie because of its romanticist, WW2 skin or it´s romance, you are missing the point. Plenty of IDIOTS nowadays, who think a 6 out of 10 rating for a movie of this quality is fair.

It´s all handdrawn, every detail, the animation will NEVER be again like this, because the anime industry just like marvel and mobile games has become DEGENERATE.

The art in this movie is of another world, handdrawn, handshadeed with nightsequences, INSANE amount of work.

Perfect emotional execution. Maybe clicheed WW2 plot, but generally masterfully executed in every aspect.

Disjointed Style but classic formula you can enjoy
3 November 2022
The movie´s shootouts are pathetic and hillarious, the music used in the opening, ending and wood shootout is cringe and completely misses the tone of the movie. LA pop doesn´t fit an alpine western, such garbage. The storyplot though, simplistic, effective, well paced, good story overall. Acting is quite stoic, which fits the atmosphere, a good movie, but sadly just an average western. It has a unique setting with the classical band of bastard village brothers trope but executes it well, i can recommend it for the originality alone, yet, whoever decided to ruin the opening, ending and climax with their garbage music taste, deserves to be put out of a job for the wellbeing of the austrian filmmaker scene. Soundtrack actually killed the mood of the movie. Absolutely justified why its a 6 rather than a 7 or 8.

Martyrs (2008)
8/10
What horror really is about
17 October 2022
See those mainstream horror movies over there in the corner? Ashamed to show gore? Ashamed to show offensive topics like torture? To not dare make it emotional even if its a slasher or grindhouse? So they play it safe? Sissy productions all of them.

This is true horror without needing a spooky monster, farfetched moralistic preaching or needing to tell the viewer whats right or wrong. This is a movie so horrific in every scene, so neutral in its depiction of terror, a pure showcase of the darkest reality that can happen in the farkest corner of the earth. Ever heard of Junko Furuta?

They label the director this or that for doing his job unlike any other. Martyrs is a movie you won´t forget, whos antagonists you wont forgive. A movie that will shake that innocent infantile soul of the modern 21st century adultchild. If you show this to people who still watch naruto in their 30´s and never have seen liveleak, don´t do it. You will only spoil em for life. Its certainly an acquired taste to "enjoy" this movie. I did. And no im no pyschokiller ;). Neither am i a gore fetishist. When i say i enjoy this movie, it´s said because the acting is excellent, the atmosphere is outstanding and oppressing, the topics at the end are actually daring in a sense of spirituality and the gore is authentic enough to go under your skin every single time no matter how hard you think you are. A serbian film might be disturbing, Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom might be disgusting to the point of throwing up, this movie isn´t that degenerate. It uses the torture, gore and brutality not as a showcase of aesthetics or entertainment, it uses it to fully immerse you into the literal hell of the main characters. You didnt have empathy much for saw victims, always just characters you knew had to act the way they do to fulfill a movies plotline. Martyrs walks this edge of that and a snuffesque nightmare.

No ghosts, no masked killer, just pure intense depressive and bloodbathing madness.

Cobra (1986)

Metacritic Score: Sissies on Revolt
24 September 2022
Action Heroes as they go in a 80´s style. Badass, no moral construct, justice as equal to the killer as the cop. This movie doesn´t need pandering to abraham to still be ethically just. All for the audience, no pandering to grander ideas, cheesy one liners, good looks and stuntman work. A simple brains off adventure between two breeds of characters. Stallone in his best form. Rock n Roll Action. Nothing more to say. No complex plot, no message, no nothing, just, pure action. Movies like these you don´t review, you just watch and like or dislike. Simplicity at its finest. What more do you need for a cool off friday evening?

Mad God (2021)
10/10
An infinite universe has no singular entity, but endless imaginations
10 September 2022
The beauty of mad god is not a message, nor a simple epiphany of the viewers imagination, nor its horror is the main focus perse, its the beauty among the madness that is trying to depict the entirety of a metaphorical depiction of the rise and fall of our species in my opinion. I´ve heard alot of perspectives. From the protagonist puppets as assassins for the foreskin bandits witchcircle, to green anarchism, to based nihilism, to peddling for abrahamism, the movie is a non biased misanthropic view of the law of nature and the perversion of our species for the handling of the beauty that we can´t explain but forcefully adopt to expand with artifical evolution. It´s a very esoteric movie with what some might consider straightforward imagery, but what the movie nails is not just aesthetics, atmosphere, soundtrack and direction but also showcasing the dying art of stop motion. A loveletter to what made monsters and art in movies great. A movie so bizarre to the normie, yet captivating to any human with a sophisticated unerstandiing of history and religion and philosophy, from the tower of babel, to the pagan evolutionist rise after millenia of abrahamist rule, to anarchism rebelling against technology in defiance of nature to an almost infinite possibility of criticism for indsutrialist forceful expansion in pursuit to take evolution in our own hands. The essence of the inner beauty that gives birth to a new universe by the plague doctor and his alchemist. From zarathustra, to melchizedek, to canaan and sumerians, from the teutonic rebellion against obedience to the belief in god, to the assyrian demons in esoteric legend that haunt metaphorically from polytheistic collectivist egypt to the question of the lonliness of mankind in the universe, to the rise of the modern civilization to the fall of civilization by being blinded by love and ignorant in hate in pursuit of grandeur to rise as nimrod against the concept of god as the singular point of creation in an sea of multiple answers replaced by a simple dogma. Whatever you think of, the movie will make you think. What i took from it? Humanity can´t live in harmony, we weren´t concepted to be like that and that´s fine, but the taller the achievements, the more people have to suffer for it until we tear ourselves apart. A very revisionist rosecrcucian anglo germanic feverdream of world unity ending in something unachievable like utopia, facing the fact that the rule of man is not gonna disable the rule of nature, nor the rule of the universe. Energy is consumed, we selfconsume unless we consume our outer world. Life is not self sustained, its an endless process of creation by devouring. Life is not about pacifism, life is not about our self idealization and projection into a greater figure, life is not about the endless self improvement. Life is about harmony as an individual within the collective and whoever controls the efforts of the collective, shall not become corrupt by devouring the chains of individuals within that collective, for the wealth within can not be killed. Humanity hit climax not yet, but maybe, like the alchemist,it will pass the torch to something of its own creation. The creature created by a god, will become a god among a sea of gods and as it becomes a god, it will die and create a new creature that reenables the circle of life. And all this gibberish is just a single idea among a ocean of endless possibilities unimaginable by a limited mind such as ours. Its a trip. The movie is a trip. Not fake like intoxicated by substances, but triggered deep within everyones unexplainable spiritual essence.

Missed Opportunity
25 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Besides the mentally ill wachowski brothers splicing in Da Message, the movie started good, promising in fact. In the end though, it feels nothing more but a generic klische´d sci fi movie with subversive apostel style messaging and wasted opportunities that ends on "love triumphs over greed and hate", generic hollywood self backpadding writing at its best. A 3 hour movie as predictable as it gets, as foreseeable as it gets with endless unanswered questions, cut off storylines and pretentious dialogue. I´d much rather just have had the slavery message and neo seoul slavery message and the nuclear reactor arc, but the other arcs were quite boring and mundane.

Its basically:
  • greed=bad (yes we know and agree)
  • slavery=bad (yes we know and agree)
  • homosexuality was persecuted back then (yes we know and agree)
  • and so on and ofc the little devil telling you that those filthy offlanders gonna
you. Get. The. Idea.

Nothing new, all subversive, if you want twitter to make a movie, might as well hire the wachowskis.

Forgettable as they come. I have about 600 movies on my backlog and there are hundreds much more impressive than this. Including all quiet on the western front, the ninth configuration, the seventh seal and plenty more. Movies that can be called art.

This. This is just like papa songs, another generic consumer product. You want something with depth? Even the video game cruelty squad exceeds this abruptly cut off neo soul ending. I really wanted to have the whole cannibalism arc to be extended since its the most intriguing, but you get the least out of it. It just ends with YALL NEED SOME JEEZUZ AND THIS TIME ITS A KOREAN WOMAN. Applause, standing ovation, fetch me an oscar! Quick!

A masterpiece many misunderstand
11 May 2022
Watch it. Seperates the people who love cinema from those who just want entertainment. The issue is, the movie is from the beginning a straight up message, it doesnt hide the twist nor is it as pretentious as many intellectual movies nowadays are. Its more entertaining to watch this than any netflix or marvel or even indie production. There are many cult movies and this is one of them together with the seventh seal.

Idiots everywhere
8 February 2021
Movie was slowpaced but it was entertaining enough. many logicflaws especially regarding gore and pain but other than that, liked the thematical duality but wished for more tension in the action scenes which lacked generally a punch. people who give 1s and 10s obviously dont know how to stay objective.but hey neither does hollywood with the oscars. very subjective movie really. many truths, many missed opportunities. modern wild west cop goes bad flick with social commentary thats not all that new but true and it obviously doesnt stomach the imdb cuckcrowd. just watch it instead of reading reviews.

(Spoilersreview!) Sure it's great, but seriously? How snobby can a fan base be? (Spoilers)
17 July 2017
The movie is great from a story perspective, it has great characters and acting, it's decent in execution but not perfect and it has a great score with a good length which adds sadly only to the mediocre pacing.

While everything is crafted well, some flaws still exist.

One being the child actors performance. His mother is shot in front of him and his facial expressions would make him seem like a facially catatonic schizophrenic. Not a single tear. Born psychopath? Despite him being portrayed as a person with heart for his loved ones, even if he has to go cliché godfather on Alfredo... Ludonarrative dissonance by accident. The prequel part is an average execution at best, with some really cheap text explaining what should have been shown instead of what they kept in it to drag unnecessary scenery and ambiance. A lot of deleted scene worthy material. You could cut time a big amount by not stretching so many moments unnecessarily and instead give me an actual reason to connect to Michael in his early years. The useless time jumping instead going proper with the development in a timeline, because it doesn't matter for understanding the story any way it's presented, so why not just cut to the chase and save the jumpery and just properly go from start to finish? Oh yeah, because people think it makes for some actual understanding of the actions in the present if you blend in the past. Sadly watching the past first and then the present would have had given 1 to 1 the same understanding to the viewer. Also the endless burials and festival scenes. Side character scenes where no one gives a crap 5 secs later, because the effect, the reason the next scene has to be fueled with, with the action of the prior, is not always reasonable to even been shot. Especially so many scenes in the time they show Vito raising Michael. Vito having no job wasn't the reason to become what he did, the reason to bring the streets don down in COMBINATION of needing to care for Michael is a solid reason which could have been boiled down to a more efficient scene. It's draggy and in the good moments. Michael's bodyguard trying to kill Hyman Roth, but he is failing as the regime soldiers march in at the wrong moment. Instead the director decides to shoot the scene so fast you don't know if Hyman AND the bodyguard are dead or just the bodyguard. Instead you anticipate the next scene where it's explained by Michael saying Hyman survived. And it's always happening like that. Not to mention, yes, this tries to be mature as possible but seriously. All the empty threats of striking at the right moment etc, and failing miserably with such cringe worthy scenes such as hyman's assassination... give me a break. Whenever the movie tried a climax, it either dragged it, broke it or failed at it, even if it's intentional, it's not satisfactory. What the movie was best at: good actors, with good dialogue, good acting and good presentation. What it failed at: pacing, climaxes, proper resolutions (best one actually was when it was an abortion and not a stillbirth) and often more than not, some clichés here and there with cringe worthy acting like with the character of Don Fanucci.
