Sherlock Holmes (2009)
A Sherlock for today's audience.
A great rendition of a Holmes and Watson adventure featuring Robert Downey jr. and Jude Law. Thier strong dynamic is the best part of this 2 hour picture, with witty dialogue and great list of supporting characters. None feeling forced or out of the norm of this 19th century London tale.
Sadly where the dynamic of the characters flourish. I can't say the same for the plot, a quite simple but effective story which is predictable. It will leave any mystery fan with a disheartening sigh, beckoning for a more intriguing reveal.
Nevertheless I highly recommend this for any fans of the literature or prior films to give this a shot. The game is afoot.
The Great Dictator (1940)
An ageless classic.
From the start; to end of this 2 hour picture I went from laughter to tears on multiple occasions. This is truly a masterpiece of a political statement disguised as a comedy, unsurprisingly the visual humor is its strongest point.
The only criticism I have of this film is the ending, it seems rushed but the speech by Charlie Chaplin makes up for it undoubtedly.
May all of you that haven't watched this unite and go on this wonderful adventure.
King Kong (1933)
A classic despite time.
The 1933 King Kong picture screening in at 1 hour and 40 minutes is in my opinion the best of its kind. No rendition has come close to giving me the experience that this film brought.
That said the film is not without fault, dissecting it with the eye of the 21st century it falls flat in many ways. The worst being the stop motion; incorporation of both film and animation becomes the norm throughout the film and surprising the unnatural look becomes second-hand.
All in all this is a staple of the monster movie franchise. I invite all fans to watch and see what beauty does to the beast.
Frankenstein (1931)
A dated classic.
No one can argue that this film was a revolutionary picture of its time. Screening in for just over an hour I recommend that any and all monster movie enthusiasts watch this classic from 1931.
Unfortunately, nearly a century later it's lacking some finer details that complete the ensemble dictated by today's standards. Nevertheless it undoubtedly helped spawn the monster movie craze that is still to this day ALIVE!!!
