Like most Fans of Peter Jacksons fantastic and unsurpassed movie trilogy I was sceptic about another Tolkien-Product, especially since THE HOBBIT seemed rushed and bloated. And also because Amazon is always about the money and seldom about the art.
And yes: THE RINGS OF POWER is nowhere near as groundbreaking as the movie trilogy.
But it's highly entertaining and a good addition to the cinematic Tolkien-universe - especially if considered that the producers didn't have the rights to use all of the authors materials - just THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS - as a basis for this prequel-story.
A series like CLARICE which is based on the main character of THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS but had no right to use the character or even the name "Hannibal" shows how this can go wrong.
The world of THE RINGS OF POWER unfolds piece by piece - but it's clearly very early on that we are in middle earth. Characters are introduced and step by step there's a threat and the tension rises while story lines are connected.
This might be to slow for some but considering some series are all about complexity and nothing about character-depth (DARK anyone?) THE RINGS OF POWER offers a welcome change.
Plus: There's so many ties to the movie trilogy the can be discovered in plot twists that get bigger and bigger the more the story moves forward.
The acting is great - especially Morfydd Clark as Galadriel - as well as all the other actors, some of which portrait younger versions of characters we've come to admire in the original movies - and no one disappoints.
Go see for yourselves....
