The Mother (2023)
JLO KICKS SOME ASS!
Loved it. Has emotional heart in addition to some kick ass fight scenes and action, thrill ride chases. What's not to love. For me Netflix stepped up a notch here. Well done JLo, you picked a decent role. There was some overseas action action thrown in, a baddy fortress ala Equaliser, picking out the baddies with some sniper hits. Jlo didn't clearly to all her own stunts but I was sold on her skills and that she could do some damage if you dared to cross her or make a move on her daughter Zoe. The actress that played Zoe gave a competent performance. Loved the snowmobile chases................
Click & Collect (2018)
Discovered gem on Prime
Caught this on Amazon Prime, I do like Stephen Merchant, his lanky body and accent lend themselves well to being a funny man. I absolutely loved this homage to one of my favourite holiday films, Jingle all the way. Stephen's co star was great casting too, very funny guy with perfect timing and the chemistry between the two was absolute magic. The arcade scene especially was very well put together, I found myself egging them on.
Overall very well written and directed and a pleasure to watch and highly recommended for a christmas film treat. This could easily have been extended a little and made a feature film with a theatrical release.
The White Lotus (2021)
Brilliant, just Brilliant - Fresh and original and unhinged
I absolutely love this show. Discovered Season 1 earlier this year and then after episode 1, I just had to binge the lot. Then to my absolute glee I read about another season and set in Sicily/Italy too! And Season 2 is just as thrilling and shocking and entertaining and fresh and beautiful to look at, as Season 1. I'm so looking forward to more of the same in Season 3, if not more intrigue and shocking scenes. Thank you Mike White for your original and fresh thought provoking writing. And well done to HBO for green lighting more of the same in coming seasons. I can see this show running and running.
Pinocchio (2022)
WONDERFUL Live action Adaption of a Disney Classic
I enjoyed this new live action cgi version of a Disney classic. Pinnochio is bright and colourful and very faithful to the Disney original character in his appearance. Tom gives an endearing performance as Pinnochio's father. And despite criticism, the visual effects stand up to my eyes. A good, fun time can be had here. And listen out for some courful language. I don't usually have the patience for singing in these Disney films, but I didn't mind it here. The only criticism for me was the kid with the New York accent in Pleasure Island playing pool. He should have had a British accent. I loved the addition of the ballerina character too to play off Pinnochio.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
BORING and Confused, a bad combination
Pacing was so off. Action was very lacking. CGI average. Confused narrative. Disappointing overall, sorry to say.
Soul (2020)
It's no UP
It started off well, the animation was on par with my Pixar favourites - UP and Ratatouille. Then the main character Joe, fell down into "Soul World" and I lost interest and switched off. Went back after reading positive reviews to try again, but I couldn't do it, just got bored. I hope the next Pixar animation is much more consistent and lives up to my bar, of UP and Ratatouille.
The Amazing Johnathan Documentary (2019)
How many? Shazam, it'll make you wonder
A winding emotional journey of not just a magician but his documentarian too - Ben. Charming film, with a poignant conclusion. Highly recommended watch.
Becky (2020)
Very gory fun flick
Had a lot of fun with this. Lead actress that plays Becky is powerful for such a small frame. The gore is amped up and done very well. You'll need a strong stomach. Just a hell of a lot of fun throughout.
The Lion King (2019)
Absolutely Stunning
Loved this version. The CGI is seamless and breathtaking. Teared up in all the right places, providing you're thumping out the soundtrack, which was pristine and emotional. Good humour and just the right number of songs for this new generation. Disney, you've done the original proud in my book, very well done, Again.
Killing Eve (2018)
Binged watched season 1 - Absolutely Riveting
Wasn't sure about this to begin with. Then saw Jodie on Graham Norton and thought I'd check out episode 1. 8 episodes later, season 1 was in the bag. Best decision I've ever made on a TV Drama. Action, Adventure, twists and turns, at it's best. Superb cast, skilled accents by Jodie Comer, beautiful Euro locations and cinematography. Faultless in my book. Season 2 here I come..
Revenge (2017)
Absolutely Loved It - Very Gory and Very Stylish -
If you love revenge movies you'll love this. Needless to say the female lead is very easy on the eyes and is a peach - you'll know what I mean by this when you watch the film. The violence if very gory indeed and that's what makes it fun. It look stunning too and the effects are done very well. This girl starts off very cutesy but she forced to change fast. DO NOT mess with this girl, do not piss her off. She will come after you and finish you off in a very messy fashion. Highly Recommended gory, stunning to look at fun
