Alone (2020)
Implausible And Unbelievable
Apparently the pursuer in this movie only looks like a man. His skills are more akin to a bloodhound. The victim is extremely careful one minute and very careless the next. The characters have a continuous cell phone connection despite the fact there are no structures anywhere. I suppose the towers were constructed for the creatures of the never ending forest.
Dear Sidewalk (2013)
A Pleasant Surprise
Aside from a rather abrupt, unsatisfying ending this was quite a find. Amusing, touching, real world relationships between adults. The characters were appealing, believable and thoughtful.
Mockingbird Don't Sing (2001)
One Of The Most Depressing Stories Ever
It's hard to believe an atrocity such as this occurred in the United States. The lack of punishment for the parents illustrates yet another breakdown of the system. My emotions swung between sadness and anger. This is something everyone should watch.
Amusement (2008)
Goofy
This seems more like a retelling of someone's nightmares than a coherent story. It's absurd, ridiculous and a mess. How this rated as high as it did is beyond me.
Missing Mom (2016)
Strange
I obviously have no idea what goes on in Canada, but the lack of cooperation with their federal police is bizarre. The RCMP apparently can't access a simple arrest report from Toronto? The provincial police won't share details of an arrest with the RCMP? One of the children in is documentary is a current member of the RCMP! In the U. S. this would have been solved in a few minutes. Cops cooperate with other cops.
Dead of Night (1977)
Made For TV Triumph
Yes, we used to have real actors performing excellent material on network television. This is an excellent example of what I miss so much. The first segment is more fantasy than anything else. Number two is in the realm of drama/thriller. The final part is pure horror and it is as good as it gets!
The Reaping (2007)
Held My Attention For Awhile
This is a hot mess of ridiculousness. Furthermore, stop using British actors to play Southern U. S. characters. They can't pull off the accents.
Wrecked (2010)
Boring And Nonsensical
I could also add "irritating" to my headline. This movie is so inane it doesn't deserve dissection.
Coffin Rock (2009)
Same Tired Ending
I would have given this movie an 8 if they had avoided the ending that 99% of movies fall back on. A 9 would have been awarded if the audio wasn't so out of whack. The dialog was very low and every conceivable background noise was AMPLIFIED.
American Ripper (2017)
Weak "Evidence" Speculation To The Max
The descendant of Holmes is determined to make his ancestor responsible for every murder on earth during his lifetime. Speculation is off the charts and nothing would hold up in a court of law. It's no surprise that others do NOT agree with these ridiculous conclusions.
Dr. Death (2021)
This Grabbed My Attention...But...
Throughout the eight episodes I felt there was a deep, dark secret, but one never came to pass. There was even a moment when the viewer was made to think Dr Death really didn't know right from left. I was thinking dyslexia or some other impairment. Color blindness was alluded to, but never confirmed. It seems that Death was just insecure, arrogant and narcissistic.
Violent Midnight (1963)
Low Budget, But Excellent
The image and audio quality is poor, but the plot and acting make up for those shortcomings.
Kristy (2014)
Should Be Designated As A Comedy
The plot is beyond ridiculous. I work with network engineers who couldn't pull off the technological stunts depicted here. As usual with contemporary "horror" movies, the good characters continously make the stupidest decisions, while the bad element is all knowing and all powerful. If you have an IQ above 80, pass on this. I gave it a bit over 30 minutes and bowed out.
Thriller: A Coffin for the Bride (1974)
A Must Watch!
I don't want to spoil this for you. Helen Mirren is brilliant! Enough said.
UFOs Declassified (2015)
Devil's Advocate
This series has evolved into a comedy in 2021. It's filled with skeptics and debunkers who are hell bent on convincing us that pilots, radar operators, the military and countless others are bumbling idiots. The U. S. government has now seen fit to validate several leaked videos of our military being befuddled by various shaped craft behaving in ways we believe are impossible. The government has further gone on record as saying we don't know what they are! So much for swamp gas, Venus, balloons, birds and ball lightning. 😂
Unhinged (2020)
Unbelievable
It's beyond my imagination that anyone could be as stupid as the main character. The villain is pretty much given free reign by her and everyone else he encounters until the movie is past the halfway point. Oh, there's non stop action, but it's so silly it's irritating.
An American Murder Mystery: The Staircase (2017)
Devil's Advocate
Every episode in this series suffers from the same problem, multiple commentators playing devil's advocate. It's insulting to the intelligence of intelligent viewers. The featured accused fail to generate any sympathy or doubt from reasonable people. Just show me the evidence and quit trying to influence me to believe all of these people to be innocent.
The Descent: Part 2 (2009)
A Hot Mess
The movie takes place in Appalachia, which denotes a wide geographic area. However, the accents of some characters screams West Virginia or further south. Next we come to the search party. They have European accents. What?!! Any search in a rural area is going to be conducted by the sheriff's office and state police and would include dozens of people. Each person would have a uniform or some type of gear (like vests) making it obvious they are in an official capacity. Watch some true crime shows to see this. Next we have law enforcement removing an injured/dazed and possibly mentally ill person from the hospital to assist in the search. This is the U. S. and law enforcement cannot do that. I don't believe the makers of this film ever crossed the big pond. The original movie had its share of flaws, but not to this extent.
Rubberneck (2012)
Odd, Tedious Telling Of Obsession
The first 50 minutes are slow and tedious. Incidents of obsession are not that pronounced. The editing and pace of the story is choppy and irritating. There are many other films that do a much better job of depicting obsessive/compulsive behavior. I really didn't feel any emotion toward the characters, aside from irritation.
The Haunting (1963)
Eerie, Creepy
If you think it takes exposed organs and buckets of blood to make a good horror film, The Haunting is not for you. In my mind, this is the ultimate haunted house film. The fact it's in black and white just adds to the spooky atmosphere.
Red Christmas (2016)
That Didn't Last Long
The first four minutes is a diatribe on abortion. Next comes the family scene. It's SO obvious the producers were working off a diversity checklist. Then we have a cow over someone being in the same time zone as a peanut. At this point I exited and opted for a 60s horror flick.
American Gothic (1987)
Motel Hell Meets Deliverance!
Ma and Pa and their brood of demented children entertain guests who come ashore on their island. It's quite possible Ma and Pa are siblings, 'cause the kids aren't right. Throw in some sharp implements and it's fun for NO ONE!!
The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009)
Pales In Comparison To The 1974 Release
There's far too much personal back and forth between Washington and Travolta's characters. The 74 version had plenty of star power, but no superfluous dialog. This version had additional, unnecessary, violent vehicular crashes. Only one is needed for the plot. There were also token, unnecessary technology references. It's OK to make a movie without mentioning Google or the internet in general. Finally; there was little New York flavor here. In the original, almost every main character was a native New Yorker. The novel and the original movie are titled "one two three", not "123".
Mercy Christmas (2017)
"B" Movie
This was on an Internet list of recommended Christmas horror movies. In fact, it was one of only two I had never seen. The other starred a "professional wrestler". I feel deceived. This is as low budget as low budget gets. The script is crap. The acting is amateurish. I can't believe this garbage was in the same list as "Black Christmas". Too bad I can't award zero stars.
Stranger in Town (1998)
Skewed Reviews
Some of the other reviewers obviously have axes to grind. Who cares if some of the actors are Canadian? They've appeared in a hundred other movies and TV episodes. I suspect others are upset over the identity of the "villain". It's a whodunit that isn't predictable with a Hardy Boys element. It held my attention and kept me guessing.
